The Orphanage

Samantha and Daniel"s family and friends came very early in the orphanage that morning. The sky was dark and the wind was strong but it did not hinder them from their plans. They wanted to push through with the event — rain or s.h.i.+ne.

The orphans are especially excited about their arrival because the staff told them that they were coming to celebrate Ashton"s first birthday and bring some gifts. So when the cars parked by the entrance of the orphanage, the kids gathered with huge smiles on their faces, waiting for what new things there were going to get that day. It had been a while since someone visited them and most of the time, they would just be given food and not spend time with them.

The thing that Samantha thought before coming to the orphanage was how unfortunate the orphans were and since she became a mother, her heart ached just thinking about having no one to take care of them.

The group started bringing the boxes of gifts, supplies, and food for that they have prepared. There were also people who came even at Daniel"s last-minute invitation – Sean arrived with his Sous Chef and Senior Chef. Actually, Daniel did not invite Sean but after he turned down Sean"s invitation to come over for a meal in his restaurant that day for Ashton"s birthday, Sean invited himself to go to the orphanage himself.

So, that day in the orphanage, everyone enjoyed a scrumptious meal prepared by Sean and his chefs. It made the orphans happy as it was their first time to taste such delicious food prepared by the masters in the kitchen.

The smiles on the orphans faces when they received the gifts that day were priceless. After eating, Samantha and Daniel along with the rest of the family were in front of the room. After singing a birthday song for Ash, it was time for giving the presents. Picking up a paper bag, Samantha let Ash hold it with his two stubby arms and then helped him hand over the bag to an orphan.

"Okay… hold it like this… and then give it to him. Go on… you can do it," Samantha guided Ash on his first gift-giving.

At first, he hogged the bag and didn"t know what he was supposed to do but after following his mother"s guidance, the little boy saw the smile from the orphan"s face which instantly made him happy as well that Ashton"s smile was so bright.

Seeing the little potato"s reaction, Daniel couldn"t help but pat his son"s head. He loved seeing him happy. "Great job, buddy."

After a few tries, Ashton became an expert!

The little bun enjoyed getting the bags from the basket and shoving them into the orphan"s arms. It looked so cute every time he squeals or smiles whenever he gives someone something.

Samantha and Daniel thought that their baby was too adorable when he"s like this. What they didn"t… rather, what they wouldn"t know until later is how this "generosity" of baby Ash will give them a headache. But that"s another story for another time maybe.

The day was spent well in the orphanage despite the rain that came pouring down just before the group was about to leave the place.

"We"ll have to leave before you, I still need to prepare a few more things before you come." Samantha waved to them before she entered their car. "We"ll see you all at dinner."

When their car exited the gate, the rest of them followed as they wanted to go home first to shower and change clothes for the dinner party.

"Are you ready to go?" Liam asked Becca when she came out of the restroom.

"Yeah," she responded briefly. He grabbed her hand and started walking towards their car but he felt that something was off when her hand felt a little weak in his grasp. She used to like holding hands with him but lately, Liam noticed that she became a bit distant.

Reaching their car, he pulled her close and snaked an arm around her waist, "Is everything okay, babe?"

"Hmmm? Yeah… why wouldn"t it be?" She forced a smile. But Liam wasn"t stupid not to know what fake smiles are.

"You"ve been acting pretty weird lately… like something is off. I just want to make sure you"re okay."

"Of course, I"m okay. Just a little tired… that"s all." Becca gave his hand a squeeze before she got inside the car.

Though she said she was okay, Liam was sure that she had a problem that she wasn"t telling him. However, he didn"t want her to feel pressured so he decided to wait until she was ready to say whatever she wanted to say.

Bending down, he buckled the seatbelt for her and gave her a peck on the cheek, "Safety first," he said before closing the door.

Becca took a deep breath and released the air slowly before closing her eyes. Seeing the kids in the orphanage made her even more emotional than she already was the past few days. She wanted to cry but she couldn"t… not when everyone was there. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.
