With the steady stream of heavier paychecks coming, Stephen felt confident enough to begin looking for his own place. It had always been in the back of his mind, the shame, at still living at home at the age of twenty one. Yet, until recently, it had been a necessity, enabling himself and his mother to pool resources to stay afloat. Now with more than enough money pouring in, he felt like he could finally get back on track. The next day, he had spent a considerable part of the morning searching online with Grace to find apartments that they could call their own. Of course, Grace seemed to be enjoying the process more than he was.

"Oh, look at that one! It even has a balcony, and a fireplace! Can"t you just picture us curled up in front of the fireplace, baby?" Grace cooed, pointing her finger at the pictures on the screen.
"It does look nice," agreed Stephen, before looking at the monthly rent. "But that seems a bit high. Maybe we should come down in price."
Grace shuffled to another open tab. "This one has a balcony too, but no fire place. But it does have two bathrooms instead of one!" She continued on, pointing out everything she liked about the place. Stephen mostly just let her go, knowing that whichever place he ended up with would have to garner her stamp of approval first.
"Oh, what about this one, Stephen? This one has three bedrooms for a good price!"
Stephen chuckled, "What do we need three bedrooms for in a starter apartment?"
"You never know," giggled Grace, before giving a subtle rub of her stomach, which was largely missed by her oblivious paramour.
Soon enough, the two of them had picked three apartments that they wanted to go see in person. One was only five minutes away from his mother"s house, in an older apartment building that Stephen drove by on the way to Price Chopper. The other two were in newer developments, closer to twenty minutes away on the other side of town.
