"Hey guys, I"m not sure whose turn it is, but we need shopping carts brought inside," said Abby Cutler, who was working customer service. Abby was the same age as Stephen, and graduated from the same high school two years ago. She was extremely pretty, with long blonde hair, and honey brown eyes that could make you stare for hours. She was so tall, too. Almost as tall as Stephen, who was 6"2".Stephen smiled, "I"ll get them, Abby. I"ll go out right now."
Abby rewarded him with a dimpled smile, "Thanks Stephen!" She turned heel slightly after, heading back to customer service.
"Man, what I wouldn"t give to hit that," said Miguel as she walked away.
"Hit that?" Stephen laughed. "Like you have a chance with Abby Cutler. She"s amazing."
"And you do? Mr.-I"ll-do-it-Abby-anything-for-you!" he mocked, jokingly.
"Shut up," laughed Stephen, joining his friend as the sounds of laughter filled the air. He didn"t want to verbalize it to Miguel, but he had a huge crush on Abby, stemming back to high school. He loved to talk to her on his breaks at customer service, and she just had a way of making him feel liked. It gave him hope, hope enough that she might like him that way that he liked her.
"I"ll be back in about thirty minutes," said Stephen, as he put his last box down and began to head to the front of the store.
"Sounds good, I"m going to take my break now. Meet you back here when I"m out," announced Miguel, who then headed in the direction of their break room.
He made his way up front, giving a little wave to Abby as he walked out to the parking lot and gathered up the shopping carts. Even though the store wasn"t big, their parking lot was, and with ten different shopping cart returns, it could take thirty minutes to bring them all in on a busy day. Especially in the hot July sun, it was hard, sweaty work. When he returned back into the store, Stephen bypa.s.sed to the back freezers and stepped inside for a moment to cool off. It was one of his favorite tricks in the summer, letting the frigid air take away the sweat from outside.
Walking back to the aisle, he could see that Miguel was already back to work.
"That was a quick break," he said to Miguel, who had moved on to canned vegetables.

"Well, you took forever getting the carts back inside," chuckled Miguel.
"I swear, every single one was out there today," replied Stephen, before changing the subject. "Since you"re back, I"m going to take my break now."
"Cool, see you soon," waved Miguel before getting back to work.
Instead of going to the break room, Stephen had another plan and before he knew it, he found himself in front of the customer service desk, staring into Abby"s beautiful brown eyes.
"Oh, hey Stephen!" She chirped brightly, rewarding him with a smile. "Thank you for getting those carts!"
"No problem, Abby. How"s your day going?"
"Ugh, so busy! This is like the first time I"ve had a break all morning," she replied, brus.h.i.+ng a length of hair out of her face.
"Yeah, I"ve barely seen you. Although, I don"t think I"ve left my aisle once," he replied.
"I know that feeling! Sometimes I feel like I"m trapped in here," laughed Abby.
"Trapped is a good way to put it! Well, I"m glad it"s slowing down. At least I don"t have to worry about bugging you," smiled Stephen.
"Yeah, me too!" Abby responded, almost too soon. The phone began to ring. "h.e.l.lo Price Chopper, Abby speaking. Uh huh, yes. Yes. Okay, hold on one second." She stopped, putting the phone down for a second. "This is going to be a long one. I"ll talk to you later!"
"Okay, no problem. See you in a little bit," replied Stephen, as he began to walk away. He had to remember not to start walking while looking at Abby, or he would surely regret it. Sure enough, he walked right into another cas.h.i.+er who was returning to customer service.
"Hey, watch it!" snapped Lydia, one of the more particularly nasty cas.h.i.+ers.
"Oh, sorry Lydia!" replied Stephen, resuming his attention to what was in front of him. He heard Lydia mutter something about "kids" under her breath, and paid her no further attention. Luckily, Abby hadn"t noticed his mishap or then he really would have felt embarra.s.sed.
