Freya almost lost her balance due to jumping backwards too fast and the sudden fire ball. She stumbled for a second before gaining her balance again. Then out of nowhere Freya could her a sound.[Beep!] Then an emotionless voice fallowed. [Error, unable to effectively track enemies. Most likely due to unique trait of shadow wolfs.]
"What is this?" Was Freya"s first thought. "Wait could this be my a.s.sistant A.I chip from my previous life? That should be impossible!" The A.I ship was only a tool implanted in her brain how could it travel with her soul. "How is this possible… unless it has merged with my soul and is unable to leave me."
As she was still trying to understand how a physical object could merge with a soul she stopped herself from spending any more time thinking about it. After all she did not have any knowledge of subjects related to souls. Even if she did this was not the time to think of something like. This was after all a moment of life and death. Would it not be sad if she died just as she gained a new life?
The next moment she could hear a loud scream but it was not filled with the despair she was expecting, instead it was filled pure anger. When Freya looked over she could see an old woman who had some white hair and wrinkles.
The old woman seamed familiar to her. It took a short moment for Freya but then it struck her. The old woman was in fact the only magus who had traveled with them. Freya had only seen her once and did not even have the status to ask for her name.
At the moment, she was so angry that her face had turned a scarlet red. She released her power for all to see without reservations. Anyone looking at her be they man or beast, they all sensed a great danger a complete contrast to her fragile appearance.
The people had a hard time even breathing in her presence while the wolfs seemed like they wanted to run. If not for their leader which was twice the size of themselves they would most likely have run as fast as they could.
No one made even the smallest of sounds not even the animals and insects of the forest did. If the silence Freya experienced before had an eerie feeling to it, this silence was much more suffocating and was like the silence before the storm that was about to come.
Just when everyone was starting to become impatient the old woman screamed "how dare you kill my subordinates!" She was most likely talking about the knights as the normal servants where dispensable unlike the knights Freya concluded.
Knights where another path that could bring people supernatural powers. However, unlike a magus who seeks knowledge a knight strengthens their bodies. They were far from a magus and where always looked down upon and called brainless brutes by magicians. However, 50 normal knights were enough to destroy a small country with no backing in a short week head on.
This old woman had 20 working for her however most were probably dead by now seeing as they always guarded them during night. But now somehow, they had become surrounded, if they were alive why are they hiding at a time like this? While the old woman did not care for their lives she did care for the money she spent on them.
"To top it off you even started killing the people I am escorting, the minimal amount I need to bring to the destination was 20. Before I only had 25 left and you have killed 5, are you trying to take away my reward from me when there is less than one day left of traveling?"
If looks could kill, all the wolfs would be dead by now. "So, this is a magus" thought Freya. Being a magus was much more than just someone overwhelmingly strong or someone who made their knowledge into their own power. A magus was someone that only did things to their benefit, they would not even save a weak Freya if not for the benefits involved.
"I want to become a… NO I will become a magus, this is the ONLY path for me!" Freya could feel herself forming a strong conviction that resonated with her very soul. Although she has not been in this world for long, it did not matter to her. Her old world had abandoned her but this world was where only the strong could survive. Power was the only thing that mattered and the people with it would become the personification of justice whether people liked it or not.
In the next moment, all the wolfs jump at the old woman at the same time, understanding that they could not run from such a strong enemy. "Courting death?" The old woman snickered. In the next moment, there was a great fire burning all the normal wolfs to ashes leavening only their leader alive.
As the big wolf was only a step away from her, the wolf stopped dead in its tracks for no explainable reason. Then it slowly collapsed to the ground not even making any sound when it finally reached it, for no explainable reason. None of them could understand what had just transpired, they only knew that they were far from the magician"s level.
In an instant, she had erased all the wolfs from existence that was capable of killing all the people present a hundred times over, without breaking a sweat. If not for the big corpse and the smell still in the air they might have thought they were dreaming. The magus gave some orders to her subordinates before returning to her privet carriage, leaving everyone dazed.
