Marcus quickly left guild hall and headed north. He could easily follow Cally"s scent as he had her in his car earlier in the day. She had a unique scent; as he thought about it, she smelled musky and like wind blowing through orange trees. He didn"t believe she was wearing any perfume. Most wolves didn"t like to. She was headed towards the cove where Olen had his dragon ship.As Marcus followed behind he believed it was obvious She was going to the cove. However when he should have caught up to her once reaching the sandy beach of the cove her delightful scent suddenly took the path directly going east into the trees from the beach. Marcus stood still and looked at the scene of the cove for a moment. The dragon ship bobbing gently on the tide, a cabana to the left edge of the cove, wooden beach chairs, and electrified torches to give an authentic look to the viking"s ship. Olen had spent a lot of time at the cove. Marcus sighed, shook his head and moved inland.
He was getting closer to Cally based on her scent. He stopped and looked about the path; he was about a mile from the beach at this point. It was full dark but wolves have excellent night vision. Her delightful scent told him she should be standing right in front of him. But where was she? At this exact moment a figure dropped down from an overhead tree branch. She had her ankles hooked around the branch. Her bright shining hair hanging down towards the ground. Her position on the tree looked similar to the hanged man in tarot cards. Her smiling face was even with his and no more than 12 inches away.
"Marcus..." a long sigh "Marcus, are you following me?" Cally was delighted. Her beautiful man had followed. How wonderful! She started to slowly sway in a non-existent breeze. Just fractions of an inch closer to that face she was so enthralled with. Marcus simply nodded and asked,"Where you waiting on me?" "Hmmph, you"re one of those." "Oh? one of those what?" Marcus had to give a slight smile at the impossible girl before him. "You"re one of those that answer questions with another question." She considered him by tilting her head a bit. "You never answered my other question." "And which question was that?"
"Are you mated?" Her hands came together under her chin as if in a plea. Marcus shook his head in bemus.e.m.e.nt. "No." Her swaying became a little more p.r.o.nounced and then suddenly stopped. She started muttering, "It"s the 21st century-I know-we should ask-it"s embarra.s.sing-we have to ask- no we don"t--do you remember Montgomery Clift? sigh..." She started her slight swaying movements again and looked directly into Marcus" eyes. He could see the starlight reflected there. "What are you talking to yourself about?" Because he could not fathom what she was talking to herself about.
She waved a hand in front of him as if to wipe out marks on a board. "Don"t mind me. I am still a little Schizophrenic. Ummm so no girl friend right?" He shook his head again. She smiled and nervously asked, "Umm no boyfriend, either?" Marcus leaned back on his heels. "Ah," He smiled at her and put his hands in his pockets and stood looking at her. The curse, "May you live in interesting times" , he wondered who had thrown that at him. It was probably Olen the old b.a.s.t.a.r.d.
Cally started swaying a little more frantically. "Um, you haven"t answered. It"s ok if you are that way. Umm." "I"m not. Nor do I have a boyfriend, girlfriend or should you ask later, furry friend." *Furry friend, what the heck is that about* She shook it off. he"s unentangled. He"s free! Oh my! "So, would you be interested in dating me?" "You"re too young." Marcus threw that out there to see her response. If he had slapped her she would not have been more shocked. She was absolutely frozen before her brain could catch up with his comment.
Cally smiled slowly to a full fledged grin. She started swinging closer and closer to Marcus" face. He was good, very good. She needed someone to mentally challenge her. "You know---I"ll be older tomorrow." And with that she grabbed his face with both hands and kissed his lips as if he was the best tasting dish she had ever found.
