Chapter 106: Duel II

The people in the audience had changed the direction of their thoughts a thousand times since the duel started, but the two individuals onstage dueling didn’t have such complicated thoughts. They were busy exchanging blows.

The golden whip and Luo Chen Sword met mid-air and collided over and over. Now, the golden whip entangled itself around the Luo Chen Sword. The rays of white light emitted from this prolonged contact was very dazzling.

Lan Xinyu snorted and used her strength to pull back the golden whip in an attempt to disarm Ling Chuxi. However, Ling Chuxi smiled and concentrated harder. A strong force ran through the Luo Chen Sword and swept over. Lan Xinyu’s expression suddenly changed and she rushed to rein in her golden whip. As the large force ran through the sword and then through the whip rapidly, Lan Xinyu was unable to hold on to her golden whip.

Before Lan Xinyu managed to land on her feet steadily, Ling Chuxi’s sharp sword already appeared before her. Lan Xinyu’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly did a backflip in mid-air, narrowly avoiding the slash of the sword. The moment her feet touched the ground, the view before her turned dark. Ling Chuxi didn’t give her any time to take a breath. This current attack whooshed through the sky as the white light of Ling Chuxi’s Battle Qi seemed to solidify. It made for a chilling sight.

At this point, all of the masters on site seemed to realize that Ling Chuxi’s Battle Qi seemed to be a little different. However, no one delved too deeply into this observation at present. There were many family clans who trained their members using their own skill manuals pa.s.sed down throughout generations, so it was natural to see different types of Battle Qi from clan to clan as a result of such differences in training. However, Ling Chuxi’s Battle Qi did appear to be much fiercer and more domineering.

Right then, a surge of fear swelled in Lan Xinyu’s heart. Why was this so? It was because it was clear to her that Ling Chuxi’s cultivation level was not that far apart from hers. Why did she have this feeling of being unable to catch her breath? Ling Chuxi’s every move was stoked by a fierce and murderous intent. It was as though Ling Chuxi was channelling her own experiences with cruelty, finality and the brutality of death itself! How was it possible she had experienced such things? She was only sixteen and this was her first time partic.i.p.ating in the training!

The aura of death was so clear and present in this very moment!

The sword had arrived too close for Lan Xinyu’s comfort. Everyone sucked in their breaths in cold antic.i.p.ation. With a quick thought, Lan Xinyu finally summoned her mystical pet. In the next moment itself, a chilling light flashed and Ling Chuxi’s sword was deflected by a sharp claw. Lan Xinyu was saved!

A huge and tall gray Battle Wolf stood majestically in the midst of the fighting ring. Its strong and st.u.r.dy limbs emanated a sense of beauty. The Battle Wolf’s white teeth were incomparably sharp. Its body was covered in a smooth coat of fur and its claws were so pointed, a chilling light flashed off them to the extent where it could make one’s heart s.h.i.+ver. The Battle Wolf raised its head and unleashed a long and powerful roar that resounded throughout the martial arts venue. The roar was so piercing that the eardrums of many of the spectators began to throb in pain.

This was Lan Xinyu’s monster beast—a Level 3 Battle Wolf!

A Level 3 Battle Wolf possessed superior speed and strength, but its strength that caused its opponents the greatest headaches was its cunningness. It never battled in a direct and straightforward manner. Instead, it constantly looked for weaknesses to exploit and opportunities to attack relentlessly. Whenever its opponent attacked, it would retreat and vice-versa. It was a monster beast that wasn’t so easily dealt with.

The corners of Lan Xinyu’s mouth lifted slightly. Without giving Ling Chuxi any chance to prepare, she let out a clear whistle. The Battle Wolf leapt into the air and pounced on Ling Chuxi, baring its terrifying fangs and radiating a bone-piercing chilling intent.

Ling Chuxi didn’t dare be careless. As her sword arched around, the Battle Wolf’s sharp claws quickly and accurately smacked into the Luo Chen Sword’s blade. An enormous strength carried down the blade and slowed its advance. Without waiting for Ling Chuxi to change her stance, Lan Xinyu’s golden whip lashed towards her with a strong whistling sound. Lan Xinyu had also learnt to become smarter in navigating this battle. She knew her own Battle Qi wasn’t comparable to Ling Chuxi’s so she didn’t dare cast her whip around her sword. Instead, she borrowed the Battle Wolf’s ability to coordinate Ling Chuxi right where she wanted her and launched her fiercest attack on her directly.

Ling Chuxi’s figure flashed by. Her Luo Chen Sword avoided the sharp claws of the Battle Wolf and blocked the attack of the golden whip at the same time. However, right then, the Battle Wolf suddenly changed its direction. It twisted its body with much agility and pounced towards Ling Chuxi once again.

Ling Chuxi immediately took a step backwards and used her sword to block its attack. The Luo Chen Sword and the Battle Wolf’s sharp claws collided against each other, producing a screeching sound that made one’s teeth s.h.i.+ver.

Then, a loud crack sounded! Lan Xinyu’s long golden whip was close to landing a blow on Ling Chuxi’s body, but it missed narrowly and lashed the ground beside her instead, sending a crisp snap throughout the air and dust flying about. A light trace remained where the whip struck the ground.

By now, there were whoops and cries of excitement coming from the spectator area offstage.
