Chapter 261: Two People Spending Time Alone
Huangfu Qingjue suddenly leaned in close and Ling Chuxi could feel his warm breath by her ear. Ling Chuxi felt her heart throb and panicked, immediately dodging this proximity by moving backwards. This made Huangfu Qingjue laugh out loud lightly.
“What are you laughing at?!” barked Ling Chuxi as she glared at Huangfu Qingjue and felt her own face heat up.
“All right. I’ll stop laughing,” said Huangfu Qingjue softly as he stretched out his hand to gently touch the hair by Ling Chuxi’s ear. “It’s good that you are fine. Okay then, it’s time for you to go back to the capital.”
Ling Chuxi was stunned. She did not think that she would have so easily broken through to Level 9 and experienced Heavenly Lightning Striking The Body so soon into her excursion. In reality, this was her first true step into the main door of being a strong cultivator.
Ling Chuxi prepared to rest and recover for the night and return to the capital the next morning. Huangfu Qingjue also agreed. Ling Chuxi prepared dinner for Huangfu Qingjue by brewing some mushroom soup, purposely making it very simple and bland as she was worried that his injuries had yet to recover and it wouldn’t benefit him to eat oily food in his current state.
Ling Chuxi brought over the mushroom soup for Huangfu Qingjue but Huangfu Qingjue did not lift a hand to accept it. Instead, a wicked, charming smile appeared on his face as he raised his head to look at Ling Chuxi and uttered, “Feed me.”
“I don’t want to. Drink it by yourself,” sniped Ling Chuxi as she glared at Huangfu Qingjue. “It’s not like your hands are so injured!”
“Ah, this little Chuxi, how heartless. I almost lost my life for her, but she is actually unwilling to even feed me some soup,” said Huangfu Qingjue sorrowfully as his beautiful brows gathered into a frown, and he wore a heartbroken look on his face. It really made one unable to bear it.
Ling Chuxi was left speechless. She dropped down by Huangfu Qingjue’s side angrily and carefully brought the container of soup to Huangfu Qingjue’s mouth so he could drink. Observing Huangfu Qingjue’s thin and s.e.xy lips, Ling Chuxi secretly commented in her heart, ‘You look so good and elegant just drinking soup. How are other people supposed to live?’
As Ling Chuxi was absorbed in looking at Huangfu Qingjue, she did not notice that Huangfu Qingjue was staring right back at her. As he was enraptured by the sight of Ling Chuxi’s slightly lowered gaze and her long eyelashes moving ever so slightly whenever she blinked, Huangfu Qingjue’s heart was moved and he suddenly reached out and scooped Ling Chuxi into his arms.
Unprepared for this sudden embrace, Ling Chuxi fell freely into Huangfu Qingjue’s arms. Feeling Huangfu Qingjue’s strong chest rising and falling with every warm breath he took, Ling Chuxi felt very fl.u.s.tered and struggled to try and get up.
“Please stay,” said Huangfu Qingjue in his deep voice. His tone had a hard-to-reject longing to it. “Just let me hug you quietly for a while.”
Hearing that, Ling Chuxi settled down and allowed Huangfu Qingjue to hug her. Leaning into Huangfu Qingjue’s embrace and hearing his heartbeat, Ling Chuxi felt an unprecedented peace of mind. Every time she had faced danger, this man would always rush over at the first moment possible and stand in front of her. Every time she felt frustrated and lonely, he would appear by her side at the most suitable time to comfort her. At this moment, something slowly took root and grew in Ling Chuxi’s heart…
On this night, Huangfu Qingjue stayed by Ling Chuxi’s side, embracing her, and the two of them drifted off into a peaceful sleep together. When Ling Chuxi awoke the next morning, Huangfu Qingjue was no longer by her side. A row of words was carved into the ground beside her. They read, “I have returned first to settle matters. Be careful on your own. Return quickly.”
Ling Chuxi studied the row of words on the ground and the corners of her lips slowly hooked up into a smile. Huangfu Qingjue, Huangfu Qingjue…
At this moment, the sky had already brightened. Ling Chuxi took a look around and it seemed that she was some distance away from the place where she encountered the odd stone yesterday. After thinking about it, Ling Chuxi walked in the direction of that odd stone. The closer she got, the more surprised she was.
Because she found that apart from the traces left behind by the vicious strikes of heavenly thunder, the surrounding boulders had long been frozen to pieces by the cold qi. Even within a mile, there was no more vitality left in the area, and all the vegetation had frozen into icicles.
