Chapter 13 Heaven Temple Ruins
“This….” Although they had long since been mentally prepared, their faces were still full of disappointment.
When they saw the others staring up into the sky, the rest also looked up, quickly discovering the two moons suspended in the sky.
“How could it be like this?!” many people couldn’t help but cry out. In the end, the faint hope that they could return home was completely shattered. They would forever be unable to see their relatives. Many female cla.s.smates cried out bitterly. By now, everyone understood that they were already far from Earth and they had no way of returning.
“Mars…has two satellites, equivalent to Earth’s…moon…,” Kade muttered to himself in his inarticulate Chinese. He then struck up a discussion with Li Xiaoman in fast English.
Decades ago, some s.p.a.ce probes had sent back a lot of information about Mars. The two satellites around Mars were two small celestial bodies. Due to the distance between them and Mars and some other factors, if you were to take photos from Mars, it would appear as if the first moon, Phobos, was around half the size of the moon on Earth, while the second one, Deimos, would appear much brighter than stars since it was actually a tiny bright moon.
Once the people who knew a bit about Mars explained it to the rest, everyone was completely dispirited. There was no longer a way for them to return home. Now, the most important thing was to find a way for them to survive.
They had already walked six hundred meters from the five-colored altar, and the light source appeared much closer, appearing less than five hundred meters away. No longer tarrying, everyone continued forward.
Under the night sky, a light breeze brought a trace of chill.
After advancing another one hundred meters, the light source was gradually drawing closer and closer. But just at this moment, someone cried out in surprise when they found a collapsed structure. It appeared to be an ancient pavilion. Under the erosion of the years, it had collapsed on itself.
“A manmade pavilion. There should be people on this isolated planet. We can definitely find a way for us to survive.”
“Is this really Mars? Why would there be man-made buildings? The air, the temperature, gravity, it is all very similar to Earth. It’s just much more barren than Earth.
Although they were all filled with disappointment, they didn’t despair. They still had many doubts about what was going on.
“We’ve already even seen dragon corpses; in comparison, the rest doesn’t seem that amazing. It’s possible that this is just a special region of Mars.”
“Possible. This place had a grand five-colored altar that called those nine dragon corpses and bronze coffin. Saying that this region has been sealed by the G.o.ds is not impossible.”
“If our guess is right, that means that this is just one special region of Mars. Then that means our chance of surviving might not be very high.”
After this was said, silence followed uneasily for a time.
“If this place is just a narrow strip of land on Mars, then what way do we have of getting out?!”
Waves billowed through people’s hearts. No one could remain calm when talking about things that related to their life and future.
“AHH!” A woman suddenly let out a sharp shout that echoed for an exceptionally long period of time.
“What is it?” everyone hastily inquired in shock.
“A skull, a man’s skull!” That woman’s body seemed to lose all its color as she unceasingly trembled and shook, retreating back.
Not far from that collapsed pavilion, half of a snow white skull was exposed in the sand. Just now, that woman had stepped on it, so no wonder she was so frightened.
All the men a.s.sembled around it. Pang Bo used his foot to kick the skull from out of the sandy ground. It was obviously an adult human’s skull. Who knew just how many years it had existed. The bone was already eroded and no longer glossy, and many rough flaws pockmarked it.
Moreover, what caused people to be even more shocked was that there was an extremely round hole in its forehead. The hole was around a finger’s thickness, appearing like a sharp weapon had penetrated through it. The area around the hole was very smooth.
“It seems there are a lot of unknowns and variables here. Although it’s just an old bone from countless years ago, we should still be a bit more careful.”
An unfamiliar environment with all kinds of uncertain factors would naturally cause people to feel a chill.
“What’s that in front?”
Under the haziness of the starry night, the light from the moon and the stars wasn’t very bright, and they could only indistinctly make out the rough undulating ground in front of them. It appeared like a bunch of random stones had been piled up together, their heights uneven, and crisscrossing like a jigsaw puzzle.
When they walked closer, they were all dumbfounded. This was actually a set of ruins, and the part that was in front of them was just a small portion. The even vaster ruins linked up from further.
The broken walls of the ruins filled the ground with rubble. It appeared as if something secret had happened to it. Under the night moon, this place appeared especially remote and solitary. In the past, this place must have been a grandly unbroken and imposing palace, but the scene in front of them was rather miserable.
Before them was just a pile of ruins that took up a wide s.p.a.ce. The entire foundation had been built from rock. They tried to imagine just how majestic and vast it once was.
As for that light source, it was right at the end of the ruins, right behind a broken wall.
“Are we… really on Mars? This place once had a magnificent palace?”
“This kind of huge engineering project would definitely require many people in order to complete it.”
“Why did this place become ruins? This tall and lofty structure has completely collapsed.”
Everyone seemed to forget their fear. The immense ruins in front of them caused them all to exclaim in astonishment. If they really were on Mars at this moment, then this would all be a bit too inconceivable.
Ye Fan calmly said, “Actually, this isn’t that much. We’ve already gone through so much today and many things have gone past common sense. Even if someone told me that this was the ruins of a Heaven Temple, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Pang Bo sighed, “The ruins of a Heaven Temple…it really is possible when you consider that we’ve already seen dragon corpses.”
Hearing these words, everyone was stumped for words. The ruins of a Heaven Temple; that might not be too far off!
The light source was right in front of them. The light spilled out from behind a broken wall, causing a dim and holy light ring to appear.
“Just what is that?”
The light source was at the very end of the ruins behind a broken wall, causing the ruins to appear even more dismal and desolate, and naturally causing people to feel that it was incomparably mysterious.
Snap, snap, snap…
The sound of people walking over the rubble echoed out throughout this empty night sky and pa.s.sed throughout the ruins. Right in front of them was the broken wall. Although part of it was broken, it was still four or five meters tall. It must have been extremely majestic back in the day.
“We can finally find out what that light is!”
The group of people carefully walked around the large broken wall and arrived at the end of the ruins. A breeze that caused people to immediately feel like their whole body had become relaxed and peaceful blew into them. It seemed like a kind of G.o.dly light had shone through the void to reflect into their eyes.
Everyone had walked completely out of the ruins. Once past the broken wall, they could clearly see the light source in front of them.
Just fifty meters away was an ancient temple. An antique lamp was releasing a single point of light.
In front of the ancient temple, a Bodhi tree stood boldly like a young dragon. Its whole body was withered. There were five or six leaves sporadically growing from it. Each leaf was sparkling and translucent. A pure green light flickered from them like spiritual jadeite.
