I followed John"s broad back as he led me to the Marquis. I looked around the mansion. It was as big as they come. Gla.s.s windows lined the corridor in between rooms making the mansion have a lit effect. All the rooms had the same door color. I squinted. How the h.e.l.l do these people know which room is which?

I mean my family and I in my previous life over in a small townhouse near downtown Seattle. I still smell the rain dew after a typical fall day. I miss the Seattle weather and life. I sighed. This wasn"t that bad anyways. I b.u.mped into John as he came to a sudden stop. He turned and smiled at me.

"I"m sorry Miss Mila. I seem to have stopped too soon."

I waved my hand dismissively.

"Don"t worry about it John. Is your father"s study behind this door?"

John nodded as he knocked twice before opening the door. I straightened my hair and walked in. John closed the door behind me. Silence filled the room. The Marquis was sitting in his half lit room on a small sofa sipping tea. As his eyes met mine I s.h.i.+vered. Despite the genuine smile he wore his eyes seemed to be like those of a fox. Deceitful and full of a plan. I wrinkled my nose. This was going to be tough. The best way to act is happy and outgoing.

This way he will label me as naive allowing me to have the chance if something occurs to shock him.

"h.e.l.lo Mr. Marquis! It"s great to see you! It seems like I haven"t had the chance to formally thank you."

The Marquis smiled as he said coldly.

"Sit down Mila, formalities aren"t needed between us now. Do you have an idea to what I have brought you here for?"

I shook my head. In fact I had quite an idea but I"ll keep pretending to be clueless. The Marquis stirred his teaspoon in his cup before looking over at me with cold eyes. Jesus this f.u.c.ker was quite the scary guy. Forget fox, this man reminds me of a cold snake. I brought the coat closer to myself as I felt a chill in the room.

"Well, well, it seems like I have overestimated your ability to understand things Mila. But no matter your role in what it about to tell you will not necessarily need your mental capability."

I smiled yet on the inside I was fuming. Son of a b.i.t.c.h! I got into one of the top Universities in the world, UCLA, and yet you dare call me stupid?

I sat back on the sofa opposite to the Marquis.

"Marquis. I don"t have that much time to waste. I do have a date with Baron after all. So can we speed this up?"

The Marquis"s malicious laughter filled the empty room. Weston"s warnings from this morning came to mind.

"Mila careful when you meet with the Marquis. Something about him screams danger to me."

At the time I doubted Weston"s words yet now I"m sure. I"m sure that the f.u.c.ker in front of me is quite the scheming guy.

"You are a young lady after all, all that matters is that to you find a man and marry. And this is exactly why I would like to speak with you today Mila."

I clenched my fists as I smiled forcefully. What a smooth talker. No wonder this man who was an original commoner made it so far. I sipped at the tea which he had prepared in front of me and crossed my legs. Enough playing now is the time to get serious.

"Enough with beating around the bush Marquis. This is something concerning Baron, is it not?"

Shock flashed across the Marquis"s features for a second before he set his teacup down. I looked at the cup that had just set down. It was slightly cracked. This man seems to also have anger issues. How annoying.

"Well it seems like my original impression of you was not wrong my dear. You are exactly right. I would like you to continue to court Baron and then turn him in when he is completely smitten with you. Based on what I"ve seen yesterday it seems like you will be taking action pretty soon."

I held in my anger as I glared at the Marquis. The Marquis shrinks at my stare.

"Marquis. You want me to deceive my future husband?"

The Marquis smirked as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"That"s exactly what I want you to do Mila."

I roared in laughter. How hilarious. This old geezer thought that he has actually managed to convince me with his plan. Why not have some fun with this turn of events? I"ve been bored for too long after all. I took another sip of the tea and set it down. G.o.d"s above the tea was lacking so much sugar. I was trying to act like a bada.s.s but I"m one second away from vomiting.

"What"s in it for me Marquis?"

The Marquis smiled and answered me.

"I will give you 50 percent of the bounty, as I will a.s.sist you with the logistics and technicalities."

I nodded.

"That seems reasonable Marquis. But I need a down payment."

The Marquis flinched before nodding.

"I would like the Marquis to provide my crew members with a new s.h.i.+p and a payment of 20,000 doubloons. Surely this isn"t much to ask for?"

The Marquis clenched his fists before smiling and nodding. I laughed as I looked at his pained expression. The Marquis then stretched out his hand.

"Do we have a deal Mila?"

I nodded and shook his hand.

"We do Marquis."

I chuckled. I"m going to have fun with this. I have no intention of turning in Baron. But this a.s.shole of a Marquis has succeeded in p.i.s.sing me off. Let the game with this motherf.u.c.ker begin.
