Speranza sat inside the carriage. In fact, however, it would be more like she was sprawled up sleeping like a dead log.She slept for a few hours. Waking up just before they settled their feet in the mouth of the abyss.
Looking at the deep cave that stood up to three hundred meters up, with stalagmites and stalact.i.tes; it honestly gave off the impression of walking inside the mouth of a giant devil.
The men and women in convoy could not help but gasp in awe. The place while it could send chills down their spines, still looked majestic and awe-inspiring.
The wyvern looked up and around, but they were not intimidated by such displays. Continuing their route like nothing was worth a fart in their eyes.
The smaller dragons, however, landed atop the carriage and gazed as it entered the "mouth" in awe ~they had never seen anything like it!
Arkalat led the march atop his imposing mount.
Small creatures living at the edge of the abyss ran off in panic. After all, top predators had entered and they did not want to stay and face it.
Still tired, Speranza forced herself to remain awake as it would be the last time she would see the sun for a very long time.
Her glance went toward the noon sun as she bitterly said her farewell in her heart, she was already missing it.
While she would never speak of it in front of her love, she adored the sunlight, during this trip the only bitterness she felt was toward this.
Telling herself that she would return soon, she braced herself and looked towards to the closing jaws of the cave.
No longer having the sun as the light source, torches and lanterns were soon brought out. After all, most of them were not from down below.
Arkalat, of course, felt right at home. The sun that had been plaguing his eyes for months now was long behind him.
Staring to the far front, peering into the darkness. His eyes started to glow red as his innate ability of dark vision began to kick in.
While it dimmed in intensity once a torch was next to him, it could not hide his heritage from the blood inherited from his ancestors.
In the renewed darkness, Speranza no longer fought with her need to nap.
The soft rocking movement of the wyvern, felt like she got rocked in a rocking chair ~It could be useful as a fearsome sedative combo!
Not that she needed many excuses to sleep recently.
Soon her breathing steadied again as darkness took over.
Her maids, however, the two that guided the wyvern couldn"t help but shiver.
The temperature had slightly dropped, and this thick darkness was too much; they couldn"t even see their own hands!
Nevertheless, they could see the lights in front of them and followed that but had no clue about the terrain they were on!
Cracking and crunching was heard as they walked. An incompetent guard lowered the torch and nearly p.i.s.sed his pants!
They were walking on skulls and bones! Hardly swallowing back a hissy and sissy scream again down his throat.
Just as he was going to start walking again, he saw a few small pairs of glowing yellow eyes. He was not too sure if he wanted to know what hid in the darkness.
Taking up his courage, he moved the light to see what was glowing. This action happens to make him stray slightly from the group.
Another stopped as well wondering what had caught his companion attention.
But before both of them had the time to react a lizard-like creature without eyes pounced at the first guard throat!
He could not react in time! Even if he swings his sword, he would never make it in time!
He was sure his last hour had rung up ~King Yama was going to greet him soon!
Closing his eyes as the mouth stretched up baring poisonous fang up.
Others tried to reach and pull their friends away, but before he could even reach up, a brown scaled baby dragon pa.s.sed in a blink of an eye followed of a red one, and a purplish colour flashed in turns in front of their eyes.
The next moment all they saw was a ma.s.sive scale explosion of a cloud of gas!
The incinerated corpse of snakes and lizards than spotted as the fire burned bright for a few seconds!
On a typical day critter as this were no threat to them, but they had been distracted by the bones, and the darkness covered the advance of those snakes-lizards.
Arkalat had not missed a single glance at the event.
He had to hand it to that small Psychic dragon. It was smart if nothing else ~if that man had indeed died here so soon after setting foot inside.
Moral of the remaining men would have dropped low.
Paving the way for possible mutiny, as well as, complete annihilation; If the group would fall in disorder, it was not out of the likely outcome.
The baby dragon then flew back leaving a widespread screech. The sound was very high pitch only dogs, and other animals heard it.
While it did not send them into a panic, it was critically useful on the remaining creatures! While they could not see them, they could well hear them!
Arkalat then spoke. "Take spears and make torches out of some of them. Use them to illuminated further to the sides so they can not sneak up again from the rear."
Saying his piece, to them. He turned his wyvern pressing it on forward. That had been to close for comfort.
He had taken those baby dragons as vanity pets. After all, what could they do? He had not counted on them aside for being scouts.
As they still had excellent vision in the dark from the fact that the wyvern eyes glowed in the dark under the influence of Darkvision.
Maybe the trip would not be as perilous as he had foreseen.
The loud screech waked Speranza and rustling noise frowning she wondered what was going on for her pet to scream it"s lungs out like this!
Half sleep she gazed toward the direction ~not that she could see much anyways. The sound would work just as well and with long torches that now lighted; all men looked swollen like they were at their mother"s funeral.
Being able to picture that nothing good had been happening.
She looked at her maids that also been startled awake; they too had dozed off!
The three of them frowned as she called her other two maids.
After all, an adult wyvern while not as smart as a dragon. They were smart enough not to need orders regularly.
Especially a good-natured one would act as a kind gentle child about the age of seven to ten years old, and the older they get, the smarter they would be if they had rich experiences.
