After the nightlong journey in the truck, she was extremely tired. The first thing she did when she reached the city was to go to his house. Her mother had told her long time back that in case anything ever happened to her, she should contact him in City Z but she knew that he was a big star now and contacting him wouldn"t be as easy. However, she had to try. So she took a cab and went their first without even stopping anywhere to eat.
He lived in the posh locality suiting his status. It was one of the most valuable real estate properties and a gated community. When she reached there, the guards noticed her general looks and warded her away as though she was some street lichen. She realized that to enter there she had to improve her appearance. It was already 9PM and the establishments had open by then. She took the cab to the jewelry market where she had to sell that diamond ring.
Selling it at the reputed branded shops became an issue when a jeweler started asking her questions. She had to run away from there. Eventually she found a shady looking shop and went there. The owner bought it but at much low price than what he should have sh.e.l.led out because he could guess that she didn"t have much knowledge about the value of diamonds. He offered her two hundred thousand Yuan, and she couldn"t deny it. The diamond was worth a million Yuan.
She stashed that money in her large purse somehow. Then she went to have food. It was late in the afternoon that she entered the locality of her contact again and this time she looked like an upper cla.s.s girl. She hired a cab and when she reached there, the guards asked her about her identification and whom she had to meet.
"Miss, please show your identification."
She opened her purse, which was full of money in order for them to see the cash properly. Some of the money fell on the car floor and the guards drooled. "Oops! Sorry." She said as she bent down to pick it.
"Oh, sorry miss, please collect the money," the guard said, obviously impressed by her. As soon she collected the money, she handed the identification card to him and he let her go in.
When her cab reached the bungalow, she paid the money and released it. Then she went inside the gates of the bungalow. There was pin-drop silence around it. She knocked at the door, but no one came out. Perhaps he wasn"t there.
She waited for him for a long time as she sat hidden behind the flowerpots that were lined up in his porch in order to not attract unwanted attention. Finally, he arrived in the evening at 8PM.
When he saw her, he was shocked. He thought that she was just a fan. "Who are you? Get out!" he shouted.
She got up from her place, straightened her dress and handed him the letter without speaking a word. After reading the letter, he looked at her again with amus.e.m.e.nt. "You were only seven years old when I saw you last. How is your mother?" he asked.
"She is no more," she replied. "She died of lung cancer last week because she didn"t have enough money to bear the cost of medication."
Shocked to hear about her mother, he lowered his head and slowly went to open the front door. "Come in…"
Xie Yuansheng gifted Feng Xinying a new phone next day in the morning while having breakfast. She smiled and said, "Thanks."
"It has all your contacts and pictures that could be revived from your old phone," he replied as he remembered that he had asked his IT guy to clear all the images of him in the jewelry shop.
Only because Feng Xinying wanted this marriage to stay as a secret, otherwise he would have told the world that she was his wife. Feeling slightly sad, he continued eating his breakfast, as she inspected her new phone.
They went to the office together after breakfast. Everything was as usual and Feng Xinying could help but feel happy that w.a.n.g Zirong was suspended for two days. She noticed that Yun Chen was also low and not looking at her directly. Feng Xinying was gloating in victory for warding off those two vamps for sometime, when she noticed Lim Fei Yen entering the office, clicking her high heels. Feng Xinying"s face scrunched as she looked at her with blazing eyes.
Lim Fei Yen walked with a lot of att.i.tude. She was wearing a white skirt with a blue silk s.h.i.+rt and blur stilettoes. She came up to Feng Xinying, handed her a letter and spoke condescendingly. "This is my appointment letter. I have been appointed as a manager in this firm. Please inform the CEO that I have come to report to my duty and waiting for my department."
Feng Xinying narrowed her eyes as she read the letter. "Wait over here," she said and went inside to meet Xie Yuansheng with the letter.
"Xie Yuansheng, we had agreed that she wouldn"t intern here, then how come she has this appointment letter?" she asked placing the letter in front of Xie Yuansheng with a loud bang on the table.
He looked at her and said with pity across his face, "Xinying, deal with her the way you want."
"She still needs a department to report! You need to tell me which department should I a.s.sign her to? How about special CEO hookups?"
Xie Yuansheng looked at her and smiled, "Are you jealous?"
"Of course not!" she replied.
"Really? In that case send her here for the hookup!" he replied, grinning at her.
Feng Xinying"s face burned with anger. She took out a pen from his s.h.i.+rt, and scribbled "Special Projects Manager" on the letter, kept the pen back in his s.h.i.+rt and walked out as Xie Yuansheng grin broke into a laughter.
When Feng Xinying came out, she shoved the letter in Lim Fei Yen"s face and said, "You are the manager for Special Projects."
Lim Fei Yin was ecstatic. Xie Yuansheng thought her to be so capable that he had given her a special project.
"Where"s my office?" she asked.
"Follow me."
Lim Fei Yen followed Feng Xinying. They went down the stairs of five floors and then reached an abandoned room, which had stacks and stacks of old files and doc.u.ments.
