Chapter 1257: Destroying the Four Great Sky Devil’s Cenotaphs!
Soza was far more concerned with the Broken Wing Sky Devil’s Tomb. Xia Fei watched as the Blueblood gingerly approached the site, his blue face inscrutable.
Xia Fei found this hilarious. The Sky Devil Tomb was no longer as mysterious as before. Xia Fei had even managed to obtain the Sky Devil’s Plated Armor, and it was only the large bat-like creature escaping from the coffin at the last second that puzzled Xia Fei. Fortunately, it seemed like that thing was not too much of a threat and did not attempt to attack Xia Fei as it flew off.
An idea came to him, and Xia Fei intentionally pulverized a piece of rock beneath his foot suddenly. The sound of the crumbling rock was also heard by Soza, who immediately ran off as fast as he could; Xia Fei almost thought he saw the spa.r.s.e hairs on his head standing on end.
Seeing how fl.u.s.tered Soza became, he could not help but laugh. However, he had always been a decent actor, so he suppressed his urge and instead looked as if he suddenly realized something, “Oh yeah! I suddenly recalled something. Originally, there was no way I could have caused such a huge commotion, but there was a force from the underground that forcefully tore through from beneath the city. Also, I seem to have sensed something coming out, but I was locked in an intense fight with the Dragoon Ling Boyu, so I could not spare any energy in verifying what happened. By the time I turned my head around, I could not find any trace of the creature.” .com
With that said, Xia Fei watched Soza’s expression. Sure enough, he immediately turned stern and asked in a low voice, “Are you certain there was something that came out from underground?!”
Xia Fei shrugged, “Of course I can’t be certain. I was locked in an intense battle against Ling Boyu at that time. Honestly, Ling Boyu had also sensed something strange, and that was how I managed to stab him in that brief moment of uneasiness, otherwise there’s really no telling who might have made out of that fight with their life intact.”
Xia Fei was being very humble with his words, but the looks on Soza, as well as the other Blueblood warriors, were very strange.
An opportunistic thrust at Ling Boyu while he was experiencing a moment of uneasiness. This was a blow that had killed a Devil Shadow Dragoon!
Ever since the New Hero Alliance had planned to revive the Devil Shadow Dragoon division until now, just how many men had they recruited over all those years? They were warriors that might not be called the strongest, but they would at least have their own uniqueness that made them powerhouses!
Ling Boyu was a weapon master, at the forefront of soul weaponry research. He enjoyed executing combination attacks with all sorts of weapons, similar to how Xia Fei fought. That was the reason why he had the qualifications to be promoted and became a Devil Shadow Dragoon.
How could these people not be shocked after hearing how Xia Fei had so simply slain Ling Boyu with a thrust, just like that?!
To so easily kill a Dragoon and ruin half a planet along with him, as well as the city and the Broken Wing Sky Devil’s Cenotaph! In any case, no one was present when it happened, so who knew exactly what Xia Fei had done…
Pursing his lips, Soza let out a bitter laugh as he backed off from the ruins and woefully remarked, “There are a total of four Sky Devil Cenotaphs. With the Broken Wing Sky Devil’s ruined, I worry if there will be any unexpected changes happening to the other three tombs.”
Xia Fei was startled. Soza actually a.s.sociated this incident with the other three tombs!
Xia Fei knew that there were also heirlooms left behind in the other three Sky Devil Tombs, and had already begun making his plans. He wanted to bring along Zumi, someone well-versed with the Sky Devils, to take a look for himself. The reason Xia Fei had been unwilling to kill him off was completely in consideration of that fact.
But now that Soza had thought to connect this to the other forgotten tombs, Xia Fei was very worried. Xia Fei had already personally experienced the prowess of Flying Eagleplume, and there was no way he would be satisfied until he acquired the other three heirlooms as well!
“Why don’t we go and take a look, seeing as how this place is already in such a state now,” Xia Fei suggested. He was hoping he could accompany Soza, and later find the chance to strike.
Soza shook his head, looking at Xia Fei meaningfully as he said, “This matter is far larger than you think. The patriarch of our Zadin clan is already on his way, and will likely arrive as we have this conversation. We should just wait for him to come and see what he thinks.”
Xia Fei nodded helplessly and lit himself a cigarette, waiting there with Soza.
The burly Roderick soon arrived in a rush. His physique was definitely considered muscular and well-built among the Bluebloods, something Xia Fei finally understood after meeting so many Bluebloods. They were on average only five feet tall.
Roderick very quickly learned what had happened here, and repeatedly questioned Xia Fei. That was mainly because he found the idea that Xia Fei had managed to kill Ling Boyu to be extremely peculiar! He had no idea just how Xia Fei accomplished that!
Xia Fei did what he did best and acted dumb, so that no matter how the conversation went, the conclusion was just the very safe one from before: Ling Boyu was distracted and took a fatal blow from Xia Fei.
He was very obviously making up lies that could only fool children, but no one could refute him. There was no other witnesses aside from Xia Fei, and if he pretended to be dumb and deaf, there was nothing Roderick could do about it. That was not to mention that the witness in question possessed an abnormal level of cunning, too!
Shaking his head, Roderick sighed. Honestly speaking, Xia Fei had already prepared himself for a more forceful confrontation from the Zadin Clan’s patriarch. Xia Fei was unwilling to part with the soul weapons that Ling Boyu had on him, and the Sky Devil Plated Armor, Flying Eagleplume, was even more now Xia Fei’s secret. But it looked like Roderick was only intent on doing a cursory questioning and did not press him on the matter, showing an intriguing display of patience toward Xia Fei.
“There’s a traitor in the midst of the Devil Shadow Dragoons. We definitely need to investigate this matter, but right now, I want to go take a look at the other three Sky Devil Tombs,” Roderick rumbled.
Xia Fei mused, “What about the Cebu Clan? They are also very suspicious, actually helping the Dark Spiritualists fence their stolen goods.”
Roderick patted Xia Fei on his shoulder and said in a small voice, “I won’t hide this from you, but Yuntian is dead. Merry from our Zadin Clan was also found dead. Are you only going to let this go after killing everyone involved? I’m already in a difficult position now that something is happening with the Devil Shadow Dragoons, so why drag the Cebu Clan into this as well?”
Xia Fei shrugged and replied, matching his volume, “When it comes to enemies, the more thorough I am with them, the better. However, since you’re the one requesting it, I shall also pretend to have seen nothing.”
Roderick chuckled bitterly, “So you’re saying I’m in your debt today?”
“What do you think?” Xia Fei smirked craftily.
Roderick suddenly realized that he had sought out the wrong person when he sent Xia Fei to investigate the secret dealings being made. He had forgotten about Xia Fei’s habit of looking for trouble.
Everything had originally been very simple. Roderick wanted to avoid suspicions, and was unwilling to let the humans that he disliked so much intervene. He had turned to Xia Fei; given how he was also a Neophyte Devil Shadow Dragoon and that they had once met by chance, he thought it would be much better to have Xia Fei do the job, rather than those humans sticking their hands in where they were unwanted.
It was too bad then wherever Xia Fei was mobilized, the trouble would only worsen!
The Cebu Clan was definitely finished. There was no one who would protect them once they were dragged into a big case like this, and that would not be considered a loss for Roderick. The Cebu Clan’s allegiance was always to their race, and there was not too much of a relations.h.i.+p between Cebu and Zadin. There was nothing the Bluebloods would do when it came to internal conflicts like this.
But what Xia Fei had uncovered was not the Cebu Clan, but the Devil Shadow Dragoons!
Ling Boyu was dead! He was currently posted with the Zadin, and he might not be the only person from the Devil Shadow Dragoons involved with this matter. That day on Spirit Mountain, there were four Dragoons that had come to the aid of Shu Yuhe and those Dark Spiritualists. Even in Roderick’s wildest dream did he imagine that they were from Devil Shadow, their own people!
After all that searching, the outcome of his investigations actually ended up pointing back to himself. There was no need to mention just how depressed Roderick was when he learned all this.
To put it mildly, the Devil Shadow Dragoons were bound to be harshly interrogated, and they might even end up being cleansed! The likelihood of the Blueblood Zadin Clan continuing to manage this division would probably be zero when that happened.
In the worst case scenario, the Zadin Clan might even end up becoming the scapegoat for all this. In the power struggle between those higher-ups, the stakes when making even the slightest mistake could mean losing it all, since those so-called major figures were extremely heartless!
Aside from leaving some men to guard the place, Roderick had mentioned that he wanted to go take a look at the other three tombs, and Xia Fei chuckled, “These Sky Devil Tombs are rather strange places, I would like to join you and visit them.”
Unexpectedly, Roderick was not against the idea and swept his hand grandly, “Let’s go!”
…
One of the four big cities of the Fiend race, the Cenotaph of the Gale Sky Devil, the Medicinal Cauldron Prince…
Arriving at its location, everyone was dumbfounded, for the place was actually in a state of even more severe destruction than the Broken Wing Sky Devil’s!
There was a glaring fracture, with the Medicinal Cauldron Prince’s Tomb as the epicenter, that had cut through the entire planet!
“Is this a tear?!” Radix exclaimed.
Tears and fissures were two completely different things. This particular gash was very clearly created by both external and internal forces! If there was something that was trying to escape, it could not create such a huge disturbance alone, so it clearly showed the great resentment of the thing that had been trapped there! With a belly of fire, it had vented it all out in its escape, and in doing so created the terrifying scene that they could see before their eyes.
Roderick suddenly shook his head and turned to look at Xia Fei, who was stunned. He instantly understood that now even Roderick felt that what had happened in the Broken Wing Sky Devil’s Tomb was not Xia Fei’s doing. This was good, too, as it would spare Xia Fei from needing to explain himself. No one would learn that Xia Fei had managed to completely master the Law of Primal Chaos, and that suited Xia Fei fine.
Since the Gale Sky Devil Cenotaph had already been wrecked, what they needed to do next was search for clues. Xia Fei volunteered yet again, and Roderick did not reject him yet again.
*Whoosh*
Xia Fei was a speedster and the first one to rush in. Having entered the Tomb of the Broken Wing Sky Devil, Xia Fei was very familiar with this place, since its configuration of this Cenotaph was exactly the same as Broken Wing Sky Devil’s.
There was no sign of the Medicinal Cauldron Prince metallic scroll inside the burial chamber, but there was also a metal coffin that had been broken laying beneath the chamber. The thing inside had also broken out, or perhaps it had been destroyed along with the Tomb.
“Just what exactly are they?” Xia Fei returned back to the meeting point, very disappointed. The other teams had also returned, and none of them had uncovered anything.
—
They visited the other two Sky Devil tombs soon after, and their situation was the same as they had seen at the Medicinal Cauldron Prince’s Cenotaph.
Xia Fei’s suspicions deepened. Could the Four Great Sky Devil’s have left behind some creature, aside from the treasure buried in their tombs? Where were the treasures, anyway? Could that bat-like creature have taken them away? And if it did, where did it bring them to?
Roderick heaved a sigh. “Everything happens for a reason. The destruction of these Sky Devil Cenotaphs are for the best. At the very least, these locations will no longer be barred from entry.”
Xia Fei knew that Roderick was being self-depreciating. Since such a major incident had occurred, there was no way for him to escape implication, so he was a little self-defeated.
Sending everyone else back, Roderick had Xia Fei remain, seemingly wanting to speak to him about something.
Xia Fei smiled, “Feel free to give your orders, elder.”
Roderick frowned, “How do you know I have something to ask of you?”
Xia Fei shrugged, “Ling Boyu is dead, and you plan to look into the matter. I’m very interested in these Sky Devil Cenotaphs, and you allowed me to join in this investigation. Doesn’t all that point toward you wanting my aid with something?”
Roderick knew Xia Fei had a very a.n.a.lytical mind and that there was no detail that would escape his eyes. Thus he did not bother to argue with Xia Fei, especially since he was unlikely to win, anyway.
“Indeed, I do have something to ask of you. I recall that Fuchen’s brain region was sealed, and it was you who did an emergency Spiritual Energy Penetration at the last minute. It’s quite rare to see someone with such capabilities,” Roderick replied slowly, observing Xia Fei’s reaction.
