Chapter 707: The Arrival of the Law Overlord!
On some nameless planet, in a nameless valley.
Xia Fei called Moon Song while he was training, and due to the fact that he was using his unregistered spatial compa.s.s to establish this line, only he could contact someone and not the other way around.
Moon Song regaled him with everything that had happened in the Yu family’s Ancestral Hall, and this second-second account from Moon Song was even more objective and accurate, which was a great help to Xia Fei’s a.n.a.lysis and subsequent judgment.
Xia Fei was deep in thought after Moon Song finished her recount, muttering to himself, “Zanian and the others did even better than what I expected, actually mobilizing all the troublemakers from the White Horse Constellation to help cause a ruckus. Still, there’s just something about this that feels off.”
Moon Song’s expression became slightly nervous. This concerned whether Xia Fei would live or die, so even this usually aloof young lady could not help but worry.
“I heard that Zanian Feng and Wolf Shunye used to be the leaders of the local hooligans in White Horse Constellation in their younger days, so they indeed have quite a bit of pull to those lads. It’s very normal for them to have gathered those scions to help them out. Wasn’t that exactly what you wanted, to create a big stink over this matter? What’s wrong with that?” Moon Song asked as she crooked her head to the side.
Xia Fei shook his head. “I’m still not sure. What did Zanian do after everything that happened in the Yu family?”
“Well, it got even more exciting after that. The patriarch of the Feng family, Hallmaster Kuzan Feng of the Dragon Ascension Martial Hall, as well as the patriarch of the Withered Mu Clan, Mu Qiyun, both ran over to the Law Enforcement Board’s headquarters and created a scene. Soon, the nine presidents of the board left without saying a word, and no one knew where they went. Word on the street is that the Law Enforcement Board can’t handle this matter themselves this time, so they’re seeking help from the G.o.d Race,” Moon Song said with partial glee.
Contacting the G.o.d Race had been something that Xia Fei wanted. Only by throwing this matter into a bigger state of chaos could he get a chance at survival.
Frowning, Xia Fei asked once again, “Has Yu Hua shown himself yet?”
Moon Song shook her head. “I did as you asked and hired some of the juniors of the clan, getting them to search for news of his whereabouts non-stop. Even until now, we haven’t heard a word about Yu Hua dying or him getting captured alive.”
Xia Fei heaved a sigh. According to the plan he had envisioned, if the opponent he was up against was seeking reconciliation, they must terminate their dead weight, Yu Hua, giving Xia Fei a clear sign that this matter had come to a close. As long as Xia Fei did not cause any further ruckus on this, it would be a tacit understanding between them that they had let him off.
It had been a whole eighteen hours since that event in Yu family’s Ancestral Hall, and since Yu Hua was still alive, that could only mean one thing. Those men had steeled their resolve and intended to protect Yu Hua, which also meant that they would be making their move to eliminate Xia Fei!
Xia Fei was, instead, a lot more at ease upon having this thought. Expecting reconciliation would all depend on luck. Any smart man would never hand over his life to another, and since there was a clearly incongruent message being sent, the next step was to, at most, show the unedited footage to everyone, going for mutually a.s.sured destruction as his end game. It was as the saying went: ‘People who are barefoot don’t fear wearing shoes.’ Xia Fei refused to believe that he would be able to shake this big tree with deep and st.u.r.dy roots, but he was convinced that he could at least leave them in a terrible fix after he was done.
“Got it. Continue keeping an eye on things as the situation develops. Take care.” Xia Fei casually signed off.
Moon Song froze. Xia Fei had said the two words ‘take care’, and she felt her heart rate increase. She could vaguely see that look of determination on Xia Fei’s face.
*Blip*
Before Moon Song could even react, Xia Fei had already turned off his screen, leaving her shuddering all over. She clawed at the corner of her clothes as she mumbled to herself in a low voice, “B*st*rd! An absolute b*st*rd!”
……
Smoking a cigarette, Xia Fei decided to devote his attention back to cultivation and training. He was even closer to ascending to the Law Emperor. The threshold was right before his eyes! No matter how things unfolded, he would not go wrong seizing every opportunity he got toward this goal.
Lionheart King Oro personally witnessed Xia Fei formulating this plan, so he knew what Xia Fei’s thoughts were at present.
“How much longer?” the old demon lord asked.
“Thirty hours,” Xia Fei replied without further thought. “I’ll release the complete unedited footage after thirty hours. When that time comes, I won’t care which clans end up being dragged into this. Since they refuse to let me live, then they can all join me in death!”
…
At the same time Xia Fei said those words, in the far away G.o.d Race territory, White Ward and Ulcen Ward knelt before a mighty individual, pleading for help.
The room was dark, and it was impossible to make out this person’s face. After all, both White Ward and Ulcen had made their way to the G.o.d Territory in secret, so the fewer people who knew, the better. However, these two were very familiar with the person behind the shrouded man. This was Ulcen’s elder brother, Golcen Ward, and he was another sword of Moonward Clan. For something like this to have transpired after only arriving in G.o.d Territory over the last few days, Gulcen was very concerned, which was why he had come out and taken a look.
“How long has it been since?” the shrouded individual asked in a deep voice, which betrayed neither anger nor delight.
“Eighteen hours,” White Ward lowered his body even lower as he hurriedly replied.
“The two of you don’t have much time left. That young man of the Skywings has demonstrated to you a sign of peace, so he must’ve set a time limit in his mind. Once the time’s up, and seeing that you’ve not given him a satisfactory response, he’ll surely toss out every last bit of evidence he has without hesitation. It’s too late for you two to report this to me,” the voice was deep and sonorous, coming from the dark parts of the room. Every word was enunciated clearly and decisively, which both White Ward and Ulcen Ward felt immensely unsettled.
“We spent some time traveling from White Horse Constellation to where the ancestor is at. We didn’t dare to use any emergency communication device, since this matter involves the Skywings. Nothing that ever involves those people can ever be const.i.tuted as a minor incident,” Ulcen Ward explained in a low voice. Golcen Ward gave a slight nod, as if agreeing with his brother’s a.s.sessment.
“Well said. Anything involving Skywings are never considered minor. It’s good that you understand this point as well,” the shrouded man said with a mirthless chuckle, “but what you’ve done is correct. It seems like this young Skywing has no idea of his ident.i.ty, and that makes this a rare opportunity, allowing you to silence him without a stir. Wait a while. Searching for a single person in the vastness of s.p.a.ce is a lot more difficult than what you imagine, and the only two masters in the Law of Mental Pursuit are currently giving it their all searching for him.”
White Ward was momentarily stunned as he said in a grave voice, “I just received news that the Law Enforcement Board’s Mingxin has arrived as well, searching for a master in the Law of Mental Pursuit to help him. His goal is the same as ours: to locate Xia Fei as soon as possible.”
“Is your information reliable?”
“Very much so. Sail Ward is the Moonward Clan’s representative over in the Law Enforcement Board, and he personally told me this,” White Ward confirmed.
“Hmph, then let’s see who’s quicker! Remember: You need to do this cleanly. Forget a corpse; don’t let even a single cell of his remain in existence. These are the Skywings we’re talking about. It’ll be war the moment they learn of what we’re doing!”
“Is there a need to go to such an extent?” White Ward muttered with a pale expression on his face. “It’s too outrageous for two clans to go to war against each other over some unknown young man!”
……
Also, in the G.o.d Territory, Mingxin led the crowd of presidents from the Law Enforcement Board to visit their superiors’ organization, the General Administrative Headquarters of Law and Order, simply known as the Law Administration HQ.
The Law Enforcement Board situated in White Horse Constellation was but a branch of the Law Administration HQ; going by the principle of self-governance, every sapient lifeform would regulate themselves, such as how humanity’s Law Enforcement Board consisted entirely of humans, without any other species working for them. Meanwhile, this Law Administration HQ was made up of all the various sapient lifeforms in the Law Realm and was very diverse.
Xia Zhonghai, the old man, cheerfully followed these leaders there. He held a very special status, regularly mingling as equals with these representatives from the Nine Great Clans. His weird personality made it so that no one would dare to provoke him for no reason, so the majority allowed him to do whatever he wanted, pretending not to see him.
There were many rules in the Law Administration HQ, and utilizing the masters well-versed in the Law of Mental Pursuit required layers after layers of approval and requisition. Thus, the nine vice-presidents had to co-sign together as guarantors. After all, an expert proficient in the Law of Mentalism was extremely heaven-defying, and if it was a personal revenge wrongfully claimed to be in the public’s interest, the Law Administration HQ would severely punish the culprit.
“Should we wait here for the news or do we head back?” Mingxin handed over the forms and asked.
“You can wait here. I suggest that none of us head back. We should stay together to prevent anyone from leaking the information.
The one who had just spoken was Mu Qianling. His Ancestor Mu had personally instructed him to do this before, which was why he was being extremely diligent with the matter. The person pulling the strings behind the Yu family could very well be someone from the Nine Great Clans, who was also present here. Mu Qianling had at least been attentive enough to suggest that they should depart together. This was to prevent anyone from leaking what information they learned beforehand.
Sail Ward was somewhat startled, his brow raising ever so slightly. The person whom Mu Qianling was being on guard against was himself, so he could not help but feel uneasy deep down, and his heart involuntarily hastened its beating.
Seeing as no one objected to the suggestion, Mingxin headed over to a sofa and glumly said, “Let’s wait for the news together then.”
…
The Bloodswallow Gem attacked the barrier of the brain region again and again. It was like a school of piranha, slowly biting at that obstruction which was preventing Xia Fei from getting promoted.
With both the rush of energy and the repeated bombardment of the Bloodswallow Gem, Xia Fei got closer and closer to the threshold of the Law Emperor cultivation. He could even practically reach out and taste the fruits of his labor. He was not too far away; he just had to stretch!
However, Xia Fei did not rush himself. He knew very well that the road of cultivation put emphasis on gradual improvement, and the fact that it had taken him less than a year to reach the tier of Law Emperor was already an immensely unbelievable achievement. Right at this moment, he needed to curb himself. If he were to make even the slightest mistake at this point, all the past effort would be for naught.
For some reason, ever since Xia Fei heard Moon Song’s report, he had started feeling this undercurrent inside him. His powerful instincts, which he had always been proud of, brought upon a strong sense of foreboding today, which was growing in severity as time pa.s.sed.
He had already guessed that his enemies would seek to deal with him by any means necessary, but he had no idea just what method they would be using.
“Put your back into it! The breakthrough is just right ahead!” The old demon lord was visibly excited. He could not hold back his feelings as he said this to Xia Fei. “You need to increase the speed of the Bloodswallow Gem’s gnawing right now! Blow past the barrier in one fell swoop, but you can’t let up on its control, either. You just have to control everything and carry on!”
Xia Fei did not respond. He could already feel that barrier weakening. As long as he gave it another added burst, he would successfully ascend to be a Law Emperor!
*Whoosh whoosh whoosh*
The Bloodswallow Gem was being mixed with his energy, as its gnawing strength began increasing onefold. Twofold. Threefold!
Xia Fei changed from the gradual erosion method he had been doing, and controlled the gem to ready its final charge!
All of a sudden, a powerful energy fluctuation not far away from Xia Fei could be felt! It was as if someone was trying to open a spatial channel!
“Is someone coming?” the old demon lord voiced in his puzzlement. “Oh, no! This is a Law Overlord!”
“You’re just one centimeter away from making it past the threshold of the Law Emperor cultivation, why must it happen now?!” Mild sadness could be sensed in the old demon lord’s voice.
