Chapter 145: Refugees (3)

“That’s not the right place!”

“Is this root that good?”

“I don’t know.”

“Look at this! It’s huge!”

“Ugh, it smells so bad.”

Hundreds of medicinal ingredients were being stored. There were all kinds of medicinal ingredients, ranging from plants to animals. The Ainos and humans worked hard to gather what they could to fill up the medicine room.

“Oh, so this is the room? It’s so large.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever seen a healer house this big!”

“This is surprising.”

“Next! Newcomer Greto! Come in!”

“Ow, I-I’m Greto.”

An elderly man flushed as he answered. He stuttered because the person who called him was a Buxom woman in white clothes. He thought she was beautiful and his heart began to pound fast when she called him.

“You have never tried testing your blood, right? I will take a blood sample to see your blood type and take some of your blood for the future. Okay?”

Greto looked at the woman while in a daze and nodded.

“Okay, okay. You can take it, all of it.”

The woman, Miraine, covered her mouth with her hand and smiled.

“Stop joking. You will die if I take it all. I will just take a little bit.”

“Hngh…”

Greto grabbed his chest where his heart was as Miraine smiled at him.

“Okay, go in there.”

Greto was guided by Miraine into a room on the left. A sudden, strange smell made him come back to his senses.

‘Huh?’

That was when he felt something strange.

‘It’s not hot in here.’

It was near the end of August, and the heat outside was unbearable. Yet this room was different.

‘Is this place heaven? How can this be?’

“Come here, please. I’m Nurse Jaina and I will be taking your blood for testing. It will only hurt a little, so don’t worry.”

“G-Greto, ma’am. I’m the new blacksmith that just moved in.”

Greto felt his heart pounding again. The woman in white clothes looked so beautiful that it made him blurt out his profession unknowingly. A blacksmith was a treasured profession that was considered well above any commoner. Even n.o.bles wanted skilled blacksmiths for themselves.

“OH! That’s nice. Come sit here and we’ll start.”

She smiled and pulled him by the hand to sit down on the chair. He heard a soft click and felt a slight pinch at the tip of his finger. A drop of blood appeared, which the woman took to check.

“Oh, you have blood type B.”

“B? What’s that?”

“Do you see this? We have organized each person’s blood type.”

“Huh? Isn’t blood all the same?”

“No, not at all. Not all blood is the same, so we need to check and divide them.”

“Divide blood? Th-that would be considered heresy!”

“No, it’s not. We’re just dividing it up so we can use it to save others who have lost blood. There’s no evil in saving lives.”

“OH, okay. That’s right. It’s a sacrifice! So there’s G.o.d’s mercy in this healing house! That’s wonderful!”

Greto, who was a devout Horun believer, shouted in excitement and looked at Jaina in admiration. Jaina then pointed to the side.

“Another nurse will be waiting for you there to draw some of your blood.”

Greto nodded and walked into the room.

“Welcome. I’m Annie.”

Greto froze. Unlike the previous beautiful nurses, this skinny woman seemed angry and agitated. He frowned at her and turned to the huge needle in her hand.

“Come, lie down here. You can relax.”

“Oh, okay. Uh. Yeah.”

Greto answered and lay down on the bed. It was a small bed meant for one person with an arm holder.

“You seem healthy. I guess we can get little more than the others.”

“Uh, no. Please take the normal…”

“Don’t worry, you will be okay. Leave it to me, I’m good at it.”

Annie pierced the needle in and began drawing blood. Greto felt his sight going yellow.

‘So this is what it’s like to have your blood sucked on!’

After a long blood donation, he was given some milk and a snack called a ‘Chocopie’.

“Dammit.”

He spat as he felt cheated. He then opened up the snack and took a bite. It had a surprising taste.

“What? This… this is so sweet!”

Greto remembered Annie’s words.

-You should donate your blood once in a while. We can test your blood if you have any disease prior so it’s good for you.-

‘Maybe I can come once every two months or something…’

He was filled with the sweet taste of Chocopie.

“Oh, those people…”

He thought about some people he met inside, and he knew they had their blood drawn before. Greto realized they were here for the Chocopie.

Joonb.u.m worked on the boy who was lying unconscious due to anesthesia. His belly was cut open and Joonb.u.m quickly moved to remove the appendix. He was careful but crude. It was the first time he had cut open a human body to do surgery. The Ainos healer and other trainees watched him working in awe.

“This looks like the appendix. Hey, turn the video on again.”

One of the trainees worked on the TV and it showed a high-definition video of a medical surgery purposely made for doctors.

“It is the appendix.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

‘Yeah, well, I’ll just stick it back in if I’m wrong.’

But it definitely was the appendix. He cut out the appendix, then used a dropper to drip some potion onto the cut to make it heal immediately.

‘Amazing… if I bring this back to Earth and reveal… I might get a.s.sa.s.sinated before doing anything.’

He imagined what the world would do if he showed the potion to Earth and what kind of chaos would ensue.

‘But that’s that. It sure is amazing.’

Just a few drops of the potion was enough to heal the wound. There was no need for any suturing skills.

‘I just need to remove any problems and patch it back up.’

There was more potion left but there was no need for it. Medicine would be enough from this point on.

“Okay, take him back to the restoration room.”

Everyone moved out of the surgery room.

Joonb.u.m and a few Ainos continued to do surgery every day. It was the first time for everyone, but no one was afraid. They always had a back up plan if something went wrong and after a while, Joonb.u.m was became really skilled in surgery. It was almost fall when he had almost become like a surgeon.

“I’ve gotten much better now.”

Joonb.u.m was pondering as he looked out the window where dusk was falling. Fall was the busiest season for the Ainos when they went out to hunt and gather. The men usually went out to hunt while the women and kids worked to gather fruits and lumber. That should have been the usual life during fall.

‘I guess we would have hunted some Boduas by now.’

After the Boduas, it was then time to hunt birds.

“I guess the birds are traveling in different directions now.”

There were no more eruptions, but the mountain range still suffered from constant earthquakes and the dense forest was mostly gone.

‘And Benzen is at war.’

After suffering from monster attacks and a volcano disaster, the n.o.bles of the country revolted against the king. The royal family ran out of the country and the n.o.bles then fought each other to take the throne. After the country was torn apart, the neighboring countries were now looking for a chance to invade.

‘There will be war again.’

This information was reported by the merchants who came to buy potions. Another war was inevitable.
