Chapter 220: To a new age (2)
‘They should’ve listened when Prince Joonb.u.m was being generous.’
The children were a part of the labor force. They had to gather wood, transport water, do the dishes, and watch over the livestock. That was how the children of this world lived. Because of this culture, many people did not send their children to public school. Some commoners even began ignoring Prince Joonb.u.m’s orders as they considered it lightly.
School provided basic education to all knowledge required to live in the world. And through this education, they were able to find promising individuals to train. They were young, but in time, they would replace the adults.
‘If that day comes…’
It was also the reason why they stopped expanding. They needed more people. The number of people was enough, but the number of talented individuals was not enough. Jackson looked at the school and became proud of all the accomplishments.
‘It’s a new age. Age of change! But not all are accepting it.’
The n.o.bles especially didn’t seem to understand why the commoners were being treated equally.
-Sir, n.o.bles are spreading rumors and planning an uprising from within. The biggest problem is Horun.-
‘I should clean it up again…’
Jackson remembered the intelligence report. The people who resisted the change most were the believers of Horun. The Horun religion dated back to thousands of years. Its presence and influence were the greatest. Up until the disaster, Horun represented the most powerful group of people in the world. However, since the disaster put people in misery and G.o.d did not help its believers, people began to lose faith and its influence dwindled. People starved and lived in misery while the monks and priests of the religion lived lavish lives in their shrines. It was corrupted to its root.
Then came their failed crusade against Khalodian. It was led by the empire, but the Horun believers and the pope made it seem like it was a crusade. Yet it failed and they backed away. People began to see the reality of the religion.
-The emperor and pope are dead!-
-It’s a curse from G.o.d!-
-Khalodians have used the Devil’s Weapon!-
-It’s the a.s.sa.s.sination from new factions!-
Various rumors spread throughout the continent as the emperor and pope were killed. Many speculated the Devil’s Weapon used by Khalodian was behind their death. However, no one dared question the Khalodian Kingdom.
‘They are afraid.’
Many n.o.bles were killed during the last war. It brought chaos to the land as people considered it a chance to claim the empty s.p.a.ces for themselves. Some of it even consumed the country in civil war.
‘They realize that they too aren’t safe from ending up with the same fate as the emperor and the pope.’
The emperor and pope were the two most powerful men of the world, but they were killed without even putting up any resistance. It meant that no one was safe from such an attack. New n.o.bles that came into power realized this and did not raise any suspicions about Khalodian.
But the Horuns were different. To them, Khalodian consisted of the followers of a demon and a witch. They did not accept Khalodian and recently declared to call back all of their priests from the land. People knew they were afraid that the woman they called a witch was now the queen of the kingdom.
-It’s good that they ran away. I was about to take matters into my own hands.-
-We- we can’t go against Horun directly. It’s not a good idea. Commoners berate them, but you shouldn’t. Commander, why do you hate them so much? Do you deny G.o.d’s existence?-
-No, they use the name in vain. They feed off it. I don’t want to see that happening on my land. Besides, they’re too arrogant. They make me want to kick their a.s.ses every time.-
Jackson remembered how Joonb.u.m was angry at them. However, there were still remnants of Horun believers who were spreading ill rumors throughout the land.
“Ugh, and it means more work for me.”
