At some point, Thirteen joined the fray, but all she took a completely different route from Zhao Wei. For her, it was far easier to cut the enemy up and push them towards the traps while they were healing.Zhao Wei was dispatching golem after golem, but there seemed to be no end in sight. Even though he seemed to be winning he was in fact just keeping up with against the ma.s.sive number of enemies. Like it or not, after facing about a hundred of the Grens he was getting worn out, even his knuckles had become raw from all that hitting, even if he held back, the Grens were still made from pretty tough stuff.
That and the fact that for each Gren he faced he"d have to launch at least 8-12 hits with precision and speed whilst avoiding taking even one attack from any of them. As time pa.s.sed the number of hits he needed to take each one down got higher and higher as he started losing steam.
The only good thing was the fact that after so long, the enemy didn"t seem to be changing tactics, which meant that although they could send all the Grens here for a fight they weren"t able to make them attack in an organized manner. All they could do was make the Grens go berserk and point them in this direction.
But there was always a sinking feeling that something was wrong lingering deep in the recesses of his mind. Something tugging at him to see beyond what was right in front of him and search for what was missing from this picture. Many times people can be in a situation for so long and not notice a crucial component, but then in a moment of enlightenment the reality is opened up to them and everything suddenly clicks into place.
This was that moment for the young man, but what he found was not the exhilaration of having caught the enemy"s tail but instead the pits of despair. None of the Precursors had shown themselves yet.
From what they were told, the weakest of whom were at least five times better than these grunts in every area, and yet when these grunts went berserk Zhao Wei had to avoid even the smallest attacks lest he find himself missing a few pieces of flesh short of being alive.
So that begs the question, if they went berserk, how would Zhao Wei deal with them? Sure he was holding his punches with these golems, but not by that much, not enough to cover the gap with the precursors, not to mention Gary.
He couldn"t even injure her for a second with his highest damaging skill before that ridiculous recovery completely healed her, and any strength he could muster to throw her way would probably be shrugged off.
Sometimes fate can be very mischievous and play tricks on people, for example by giving them exactly what they were worrying about. After another 5 or so Grens went down, he found the hall behind them actually emptied out, traded out for the sound of footsteps mixed with what seemed to be concrete breaking under those very footsteps that echoed through out the compound as well as the sound of something definitely heavy being dragged across the concrete floor.
Even though he couldn"t see where Gary was, but he could feel the air flow change back and forth every time she inhaled or exhaled.
Zhao Wei ran back into the room, "Everyone we have to move out right now!" He shouted. Against the rest, Zhao Wei was confident that using their companions as barricades would be enough to hold them back. But against Gary, he was afraid that one of her swings would probably tear apart the walls, the Grens and the whole floor while she was at it. If they were stuck in this dead end corridor there was no chance for them to survive as they"d just be sitting ducks waiting for the bomb of a strike to come.
"Uh... kid we might have a problem." Jeff spoke, looking at a spot on the floor. Following his line of sight, Zhao Wei was confused looking at simply an empty spot. Until he realized that was the exact problem with that spot. That little s.p.a.ce was where they left Grendolyn"s unconscious body before this whole ordeal started.
But they simply couldn"t do anything about it right now, the longer they waited here, the greater the tremors from those footsteps became and thus signaling the approach of something none of them were in a position to deal with right now. At the very least, he was pretty sure she wasn"t taken from here by one of the Grens as none of them avoided being bonded to the walls, if she left on her own she must"ve had a plan in mind.
All he could do now was wish her well, compared to her, they were probably facing a much bigger problem.
