Skylar froze and she didn"t know what to do. She looked at Reign and before he could speak she cut him off."I was feeling sad, and Reign was cheering me up, he didn"t want me to be sad."
"But why didn"t you call me and I would have been here."
"I didn"t want to bother you. So you wouldn"t come out of cla.s.s. I mean Reign and I are in the same cla.s.s, and I lost it a bit."
"Can you leave us alone Reign." Said Jessie.
"Okay….sure."
When Reign left Skylar didn"t know what to say to Jessie, should she confess?
"Where have you been Skylar?"
"I was at home."
"Why didn"t you reply to my texts and calls? I was so worried about you."
"I know, I just didn"t feel like talking to anyone. I was going through some stuff."
"I want to be here for you and I can"t be if you won"t let me in Skylar."
"I….just needed some time alone Jessie, I needed to clear my head."
"I need to be the person that you seek to escape, I want you when you are going through something to come to me not anyone else."
"I didn"t go to anyone, I was by myself."
"No, you went to Reign."
"I didn"t go to Reign, he just happened to be there at the right time. We were sent to go get some papers."
"And you felt comfortable enough to hold onto him."
"Can we do this later Jessie, I have the cla.s.s to attend."
"I guess."
"I promise Jessie we will talk."
Skylar went back to cla.s.s and took her bag. She would go home early today. She wasn"t in the mood and she felt out of breath and tired.
When she got home she went straight to her bed. She didn"t open her curtains but went straight to bed, she had to figure out what to do. She wanted to tell Jessie everything that had gone on. She couldn"t carry on if she didn"t start with honesty and he deserved the truth.
When Friday came, Skylar wanted to tell the truth but she didn"t know when the opportunity would arise. She felt as if the day was going by too fast.
When she felt too dizzy, she made her way to the bleachers, she knew that no-one would be there, and she lay down. She felt some wind on her face, and she took a deep breath.
"Skylar."
She jumped when she heard her name being called when she opened her eyes slowly. She didn"t know if Reign was there or not.
"Reign."
"What"s going on with you Skylar?"
"What do you mean?"
"You seem so out of it. Do you even know that you are here."
"Yes, I do. Why are you here?"
"I wanted to see you."
"I don"t feel like talking Reign."
"I know, I will seat with you then. I won"t make a sound."
Skylar felt her head being raised, "What are you doing?"
"Just be still."
Skylar felt her head nestle on a more comfortable pillow, she realized that her head was on his lap.
"You don"t need to do this."
"Skylar just sleep, I am here so nothing will happen to you."
Skylar fell asleep,
"What the h.e.l.l are you guys doing again?"
Skylar roused and she got up and saw Jessie. She had to tell him the truth but with the look on his face, she couldn"t. Before she could explain, Jessie turned to Reign.
"I need to talk to you."
Reign got up and made his way to Jessie and they disappeared, she wondered what they would be talking about. Or was Jessie upset about something else? Skylar called it a day and went home early, she sent Lola a text, because she knew that she would worry.
She contemplated if she should call Jessie or Reign but she thought against it. If there was anything that was big she would have been told by now. So she didn"t bother stressing anymore. She received a text from her mom that she would be in late. So Skylar made a small meal for herself and nibbled on it.
During the weekend Skylar slept and focused on getting better, she did a bit of some work for school and she took a couple of walks, which was good for her. When Monday came she felt rested and was ready to tackle school.
Skylar made her way to Lola"s house and found her friend waiting for. When Lola spotted her she squealed and rushed to her,
"Skylar, I am happy and a bit mad to see you. You look great, which is good cause it means you won"t leave me all alone."
Skylar embraced her friend back, "It is great to see you again Lola, I missed you too."
When Lola pulled back, "You have to tell me everything that happened."
"Of course, let"s be walking, I don"t want to be late."
On their way to school, Skylar told Lola everything that had happened in the last few weeks, and how she had gotten sick and all. When she was done Lola"s eyes were wide.
"Who are you going to pick Skylar?"
"I don"t know."
"But what do you think Jessie wanted to talk about with Reign?"
"I also don"t know."
Skylar and Lola had talked for so long that they arrived late, "We better hurry to cla.s.s."
"What do you have first?"
"I have Science…"
"Don"t worry everything will go well today Skylar, pull up your big boy pants and go do this s.h.i.t."
Skylar laughed at Lola"s tone and took a deep breath. She walked into cla.s.s but their teacher wasn"t there.
"Skylar you look great!" said Tyler.
Skylar wanted to faint because he had said it so loud that Reign and Jessie looked and watched her take her seat. She acted as if she couldn"t see them.
Tyler started to pat her head, "I was getting so lonely without you Skylar, I had to sit alone."
Skylar laughed at his tone, "I"m sorry, I am here and everything should be better."
When the teacher came in the cla.s.s proceeded, as usual, nothing happened and Skylar was relieved. The bell rang and she had history next. She went to cla.s.s and found Lola, who looked at her with eager eyes.
"What happened? Where Reign and Jessie there?"
"Yes they were there but they didn"t say anything."
"That"s weird."
"Talk about it."
When history finished they went to their break time and got some food. Lola came next to her, and they made their way to their usual table. The bell rang and Skylar made her way to English, Karly and Reign were both not there and she was relieved.
When it was time for math, she went to cla.s.s and found Lola waiting for her, they were early. They took their seats and took out their books.
"Danger alert." Said Lola.
Skylar saw Reign and Jessie coming. She pretended to look for something in her bag, when they pa.s.sed she got back up.
When math finished, they went and changed into their gym clothes,
"Did I ever tell you that gym clothes fit you so well." Said, Lola
"Yes, and so do you."
They both laughed when they got to the sports center,
"Skylar look up there but don"t stare too much."
When Skylar look up she was surprised as to what she saw, Reign and Jessie were sitting with a bunch of girls flirting up a storm. Skylar quickly looked away not wanting to get caught staring too much. Yet her eyes kept wondering, she even saw them both laugh.
Eric came running, "Guy"s Sir said to choose a game and he will be running late."
Some of the students agreed to partic.i.p.ate and some refused, Skylar peeked out the corner of her eye and saw Reign and Jessie were still at it. She figured why they were ignoring her, she wouldn"t mind them and focus on her sports for now.
They settled on dodge ball and they split up into two teams. Skylar"s team was doing amazing. She and Lola were having a blast, hitting and dodging the flying b.a.l.l.s coming up to them. Skylar saw the girl Reign talking leaning in and it seemed as if,
Before she could see what happened she was on the ground with a searing headache. She realized that she had lost focus and got hit the head by the ball. She saw Reign and Jessie and both took a step towards her direction but they held back.
Lola came beside her, "Are you okay?"
"I am fine."
Lola helped her up and she had enough of sports for today. She and Lola headed back to get their books and she decided to go home in her sports outfit. Skylar undid her hair because her head was still ringing. She washed her face and felt a bit better. She went to admin with Lola to get her issue sorted out.
After twenty minutes, Lola was finally done and she was happy to head home. When they got outside her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Reign and Jessie with the two girls. She didn"t know why she felt hurt but she did.
She saw Reigns eyes flicker on to her and then they were gone. She wondered if he even looked at her or was she imagining it. She and Lola made their way home.
