8. In the book The Future of the American Family (Moody Press, 1993) the Barna Research Group provided data showing two important truths related to divorce. First, contrary to the media"s myth about marriage, it is not true that half of all marriages end in divorce. That figure has been used by journalists for years, based on dividing the total number of divorces granted in a year divided by the number of marriages performed in that year. With about two and a half million marriages annually and about one and a quarter million divorces each year, the mathematics produce a statistic of roughly 50 percent. A more accurate way of determining what proportion of marriages dissolves is to figure out how many adults who have been married have also been through a divorce. On this basis, we found that about one out of every four marriages ends in divorce.

10. The rapture is a future event described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Matthew 24:36-41; and in other pa.s.sages of Scripture. At that time Jesus Christ will appear in the clouds and take all true Christians comprising the church from the earth to be with Him in heaven, leaving the rest of the world to endure without them during the period called the tribulation. Jesus" second coming, which will be recognized by all people, will occur after this time.

Antiochus died long before Paul and John wrote of the future Antichrist (William Blackstone, Jesus Is Coming [reprint, Grand Rapids: Kregel, 1989], 110).
