Shi Lei had already a.n.a.lyzed that much, and the Scepter didn’t have a choice but to answer him directly. “The level of intimacy cannot be checked, no matter what level you are.”
It thought that Shi Lei would feel down, but he didn’t. He actually smiled. “But in the rewards system, there should be a certain card that can check it, right?”
“Your level is too low and you are unworthy to know the answer to that question!”
Although the Scepter refused to answer, Shi Lei knew that he had guessed correctly. If there wasn’t a card to check the level of intimacy, the Scepter would definitely tell him. Since it refused to answer, then there had to be a card for it.
Seeing that Shi Lei was rubbing his fist, the Scepter knew that it couldn’t hide it from him and said, “There’s an extremely low chance of you picking that specific card. You shouldn’t even think about it.”
Shi Lei chuckled and said, “The chance of getting that golden investment card wasn’t as low as what you said it would be. Or maybe it is something every person who’s picked by the Black Card should have. What the Black Card wants is for the employee to grow, not for them to level up a few times and then die. Except I was really lucky and got it right after I finished the training period, so you were surprised. As for the card to check the intimacy level…I suppose every employee will get it, but it’s just a matter of time, am I right?”
The Scepter fell silent.
Shi Lei laughed again. “Calm down. That was a trap. You don’t have to answer.” But the Scepter knew that Shi Lei already had an answer in his heart.
“I’m not that afraid of leveling up, you know. So far, it’s been three weeks for one level. No doubt the fourth week will be the examination week. Or maybe I must level up on the fourth week. Perhaps the employee will level up when they reach a certain level of points from the examination. Level two should be one million!” Shi Lei smiled as he ejected the card. He never really wanted the Scepter to answer any of the questions, and what he said was purposely for the Scepter and the Black Card to hear.
Friday was the day for pre-market quotations. Shi Lei a.n.a.lyzed the stocks for a while and then bought a few on the mock app.
When it closed at 3 PM, the results were slightly better than last time. He bought four in total with two gaining profit, one remaining same, and one in deficit.
Looking at the stocks he bought yesterday, the one that had increased was slightly higher today, while one of the three other stocks stayed the same and the other two were still in deficit.
At least it was better than yesterday. Shi Lei planned to try again using the American stock market. If he could improve a little every day, he would soon be able to learn the basic skills needed for trading and buying stocks. Although that alone couldn’t guarantee that all the stocks he picked would gain profit, with the golden investment card to double check his decisions, he could regain some expectations of being an investment legend.
Before Shi Lei went to bed, he realized that there was a note on the table. It was from Wei Xingyue.
Her handwriting wasn’t bad. There were very few fuerdais who were not educated, since the majority of them had rather high standards. The handwriting resembled the person. Wei Xingyue wasn’t as graceful as other girls, and neither was her handwriting as beautiful as those of other girls. But it was wild, which fit her crazy woman image quite well.
The note said: You were sound asleep, so I didn’t wake you up. Be prepared to treat me tonight. Actually, I will treat you to thank you for helping me last night.
The signature was Wei Xingyue and in bold, cursive writing.
But it was already past dinner time. America wasn’t on daylight savings and the market opened at 10:30 PM. Shi Lei waited for the American stock market to close before going to sleep at almost 1 AM.
If it was someone else, Shi Lei would think that because he didn’t see the note and didn’t call, the opposite party would be upset.
But Wei Xingyue wasn’t like that. She was always ahead of what was going on and didn’t care about small details like this. Shi Lei didn’t call her because as soon as she was free, she would definitely call him. Since it was long past dinner time, something probably happened and she cancelled.
Shi Lei didn’t really pay too much attention to it. He threw the note in the garbage and went to bed.
Of course, he wouldn’t know that Wei Xingyue was grounded by her father.
She had left at around ten in the morning and Shi Lei didn’t wake up until noon.
Before she left, she called her family to come pick her up. When she went downstairs, the Volvo that had hit Shi Lei before was already waiting for her. Wei Xingyue wanted to tell the driver that she could go home by herself, but her father told him to take her home and she knew that things wouldn’t go well if she refused.
Wei Xingyue’s father was already against her getting in contact with Shi Lei. Although it was him who told her to investigate the kid, he quickly asked Puti to do it instead and told Wei Xingyue not to b.u.t.t in.
But not only did she b.u.t.t in, she quickly became friends with Shi Lei. She even got too close. After he found out about it, it was impossible for him to not be angry.
When she got back home, as expected, the butler told her that her father was waiting for her in the study. Wei Xingyue went to her room and changed clothes, then nervously went to see her father.
She knocked and pushed the door open after she was called to enter.
Her father was doing calligraphy and was already near the end, so he ignored her. He wrote everything perfectly until a small mistake toward the end. Then he sighed, dropped the pen, lifted the paper, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it to the corner of the desk.
Seeing that Wei Xingyue was standing next to the table, he looked at her calmly without revealing any emotion in his eyes.
“Do you know why I called you here?” He asked.
Wei Xingyue nodded and said, “I was with Shi Lei and you are not happy about that.”
Her father sighed again. “I told you to investigate him because you have the best social skills out of all your siblings, so I thought that you would be able to get something your older brother and younger sister couldn’t. But after a second thought, I realized that you are always so careless and you display your personality too much, so if I really let you check him out, it would be fine if you did get something out of him, but if you didn’t, then you would definitely try to get to know him the way you are doing right now. And that’s the one thing I don’t want to see. That’s also why I told Puti to take over and warned you not to do anything. But you? What did you do?”
“Dad, that’s a coincidence. I didn’t do it on purpose. It’s true that after you told me to stop, I still asked someone to check on him. I saw his notes and there was nothing special. I also don’t understand why your old friend would ask to borrow the mansion for him. Aren’t you curious about that too? But I listened to you and stopped investigating.”
“You slept over at his house without continuing to investigate him? And for two nights!” Her father spoke harshly and Wei Xingyue trembled in fear.
