Mang Kanor entered the house holding a basin with the dead chicken slit on the throat and fresh blood dripping from its neck creating a dark pool of blood in the basin.

"Kanor, no one must enter the house while I"m doing the ritual," she said.

"Yes Auntie," Mang Kanor replied and obeyed the instruction of the old woman, he went out of the house and sat down on the stairs, guarding the door.

"John, please bring that basin with us inside that room," she pointed the room near the window. She walked ahead and entered the room followed by John.

John"s hand was trembling a bit. The metallic smell of the fresh blood was nauseating to his nostrils.

They entered the small room. In the middle of the floor was one black candle, a plank of wood with an eye carving surrounded by six small stones. The floor was entirely covered with a black color floormat and the ceiling was painted black as well. That"s all he sees inside the room, so different from what he usually had seen in movies were lots of witchcraft items like voodoo dolls, figurines, religious statue, and other weird stuff adorned a healers ritual room.

The old woman sat on the floor and lighted the lone candle. "Bring the curtain down and submerged the room in total darkness," she instructed. "Then keep your mouth shut the whole time am in a ritual," said the healer.

John saw the black curtains that hang in the wall the length reached unto the floor, he obeyed the healer"s command, once all the thick curtains finally covered the entire walls the room, they were submerged in darkness, well not totally, because the candle was still lighted.

Aling Pacing placed Catherine"s photo and blouse in front of the plank of wood that has an eye carved into it. Then she began chanting words that John can"t comprehend. A few minutes later, the candle suddenly died as if someone was blowing it off, John was puzzled because there was no wind inside the room and the old woman has her eyes closed while chanting some Latin words. The room was submerged in thick darkness.

Then a total silence ensued.

John sits still on the floor with folded knees just like the healer.

A strange voice comes out from the old woman"s mouth, more like a child"s voice.

"Catherine is alive!"

"Her stomach is growing!"

"But there"s an unforeseen tragedy in the future."

"Someone will fade away!"

"The captive will be freed and the alive will fade!"

"Three versus two!"

"Two doves and three black lilies."

"Two come out, three come inside."

"Good news, bad news!"

"Good news, bad news!"

Then silence returned in full force.

The voice of the child disappeared replaced by the heavy breathing of the old woman as if she was in a deep state of sleep.

Then John felt a sudden whizzing sound of a wind that was rotating above the ceiling. He felt the p.r.i.c.kling of the cold wind on his spine enveloping his entire body. As if some invincible force was embracing him! His body trembled down to his toes. WTF!? What the h.e.l.l was that?

Then the candle was flickering with light again on its own without any human interference.

The old woman was still in trance, then slowly she opened her eyes. "Open the curtains now," she instructed John.

John obeyed, he rose to his feet and pulls the curtain back in both sides allowing the natural daylight to enter the room.

Aling Pacing blew off the candle.

John sat back on the floor and he was stunned to see the blood in the basin all gone, wipe clean. But the lifeless chicken was still there. Who drinks the chicken"s blood? Not him! When he looked at the old woman"s mouth, it"s clean, no traces of blood and the floor has no tiny droplets of blood either. Where did the blood go? For the first time in his adult life, he never felt scared and shaken until now. The happenings inside the ritual room were hard to explain!

Aling Pacing was smiling amused with his reaction. "I don"t drink the blood offering, but my friend who is a naughty spirit like the blood so much, such a silly boy!" she explained.

John hides his fear. "Was that your friend"s voice I heard talking earlier?"

"Yes," the old woman nodded. "Your missing wife is alive!" she exclaimed.

"But...w-where can I find here?" John asked.

"The living always returns to where they belong, while the dead will retire to their resting place, that"s how the way things works. Unfortunately, my friend can not meddle with the works of destiny, he can only see a few snippets of the future happenings in peoples lives, but he can"t reveal all," explained Aling Pacing.

"What about those riddles? What is their hidden meaning and explanation?" John asked again.

"Since my spirit friend can"t reveal more than he was allowed to, he uses riddles. Those riddles will only come into light when things already start unraveling...," Aling Pacing said.

John released a deep sigh. He doesn"t know what to feel right now, frustrated, confused, relieved or what?

Aling Pacing was looking at the man"s face intently. "Are you frustrated?"

John nodded her head in agreement.
