104 Eating at a Restaurant
Xia Wan had seen enough of the commotion and didn’t want to stay for a second longer. She still wanted to bring her parents out for a good meal.
“Let’s go out and eat. Let them be. I don’t think anyone can stop us,” Xia Wan said to her family.
At first, Yan Han was still a little worried that if they were to leave things as they were, the family would be in chaos. It was Xia Wan who reminded her, “Mom, our status in this family is the lowest. There’s no point in us staying here. Why are you looking for trouble here?”
Yan Han felt that what she said made sense. After all, no one in this family would listen to her. However, if a conflict were to break out, everyone would blame her.
If it was in the past, Yan Han would have gotten used to this kind of life. But now, thinking about how her daughter could earn on her own, and even bring them to a restaurant, Yan Han felt a little proud. She felt that she couldn’t continue to be so spineless, as this would only drag her daughter down.
Yan Han also raised his head and said to Xia Wan, “Let’s go and eat.”
There was a restaurant in the village, but it was a distance from Xia Wan’s house. At that time, few of the villagers would visit the restaurant. Most people still chose to cook at home.
Xia Wan chose the most expensive restaurant in the village, usually patroned by those with relatively wealthy families. It had a wide variety of dishes and good taste, but it was expensive.
Standing at the entrance of the restaurant, Xia Hai hesitantly grabbed the corner of his shirt. He looked at Xia Wan uneasily and said, “Wanwan, isn’t this place a little too pricey? I heard from the villagers that a meal here costs over 10 yuan.”
Although Xia Hai’s monthly salary was 300 yuan, the family’s various expenses were high. If they spent more than 10 yuan just for a meal, it would be far beyond what he could afford. After all, one yuan could buy several days’ worth of food and meals at home.
Xia Wan could see Xia Hai’s concern and she smiled at her father. “Dad, I’ve said it before. I’m earning money so our family can have a better life. Let’s go. I have something important to tell you. It has to be said in the private room. Dad, if you don’t go in, I’ll get angry.”
Upon Xia Wan’s threats, Xia Hai finally relented.
“Alright, then let’s spend some money today.”
Xia Hai entered the restaurant first. The owner looked at them curiously the moment they stepped in.
“Xia Hai, what’s wrong with your family? I’ve never seen you here for a meal before. What’s wrong? have you made more money this month?”
The shop owner said this out of curiosity. There were not many people in the village, and he knew the names of almost all the families.
The owner of the restaurant was naturally aware of the Xia family. The money earned by the sons was all in Li Jin’s hands. If these sons wanted to have a meal at the restaurant, they would have to be stingy.
This was especially so for his second son, Xia Hai, who was famous for being filial. To put it bluntly, he was filial to a fault, where he basically listened to everything his mother said.
Hence, when he saw that Xia Hai had brought his entire family for dinner without his mother, the boss was extremely curious.
Xia Hai was a little embarra.s.sed by the question and he didn’t know how to answer.
Xia Wan smiled and took the initiative to stand up. She said to the boss, “It’s like this. Today, I went to town with my brother and brother to find a job. This way, the family will have an extra income.
“Although we didn’t earn much, it’s enough for a meal. But that’s secondary. The main thing is that something’s happened to our family.”
When she said this, Xia Wan paused and looked like she didn’t know how to continue.
Her expression attracted the curiosity of the others, and the boss couldn’t help but urge, “What happened to your family? Tell me about it. I might be able to help you make a decision.”
When Xia Wan heard his words, she sighed and said helplessly, “Actually, I’m sure everyone knows about this. My cousin, Xia Ru, has a strange illness. If we want to cure her, we’ll have to soak her in feces, the medicine’s primer, for a few hours.”
