TN: Song of the day…
Before the cool done run out
I’ll be giving it my bestest
And nothing’s gonna stop me but divine intervention.
I reckon, it’s again my turn
To win some or learn some.
…
Sapphire believes in "divine intervention". Like when it appears everything has already been set in place, as if nothing can stop it anymore from happening, yet for some unexplainable reasons the plan just won"t take place.
Like now. At that time, she was feeling nervous while Johann"s "hashtag Johann"s the moves version 2.0" seemed all so ready, yet a divine intervention really did appear.
Johann"s lips were already on its way down to her neck when a loud knock coming from the gate suddenly rang out.
"Saphi? Saphi, baby? Knock knock!"
Her eyes widened. "It"s Mom!"
Johann sprang up to his feet and started scratching his neck. "Wait po, Mom!" he shouted. He helped her up as she fixed herself. "I love your mom but it seems she came at the wrong time. Annoying."
She has the same sentiments but she just shrugged it off. "Go on, Husband. Open the gate."
He did what she said and went out to welcome her mother. Meanwhile, her mind started thinking. This time, what do her Mom wants? She feels nervous. Because of what happened this afternoon, it felt like it would be awkward to face her mom.
Her mother and Johann walked in side by side.
"Mom…" She forced a smile. "I — "
The woman charged at her, surprising her with a hug. "M-Mom…"
"I love you, Saphi. I love you so much," her mom whispered. The woman cupped her face while being teary eyed. "And I"m so sorry if you feel neglected all this time."
Johann made an "ahem" sound. "I think I better leave the two of you for now." He politely left after giving her a meaningful look.
"Mom, I"ve told you already that I understand. You don"t have to say sorry."
"No, my daughter." The woman sighed. Her mother looked stressed.
They sat on the sofa. "I was shocked by what you said this afternoon. B-believe me or not, I wasn"t aware that you think like that of me." The woman gripped her hands. "I"m sorry, baby. Mommy failed you… You"re right, I realized all these years, I minded nothing but finding myself a boyfriend. But all I want… is for you to h-have a dad…" Her mom lowered her head. "But looks like that"s not what I have done. It seems it became my excuse to cover up my selfishness. Sapphire, I"m sorry… Mom"s sorry… I really didn"t know that you were feeling hurt because I thought everything"s cool with you…"
She sighed and hugged her mother who was already in tears. She doesn"t want to see her mom cry. It"s heartrending. But she actually became her mom"s reason to cry.
"M-mom… don"t cry. It"s okay. I still love you no matter what."
"I was young and immature back then. Looks like I never grew up, baby. I thought I was doing my duty as a mother by finding a father for you. However, you"re now married, yet I am not." Her mom traced her hair. "Maybe I"ve become desperate, Saphi. I aged like this but no one from those guys I loved before loved me enough to propose a wedding. Maybe no one wants to accompany me "til the end."
Saphi pouted. "Me, Mom. I want to grow old with you. I will take care of you."
Her mother looked at her and smiled. "Sapphire…" and brought her into her embrace. "You don"t know much happiness you always bring me since the day I first held you."
"H-Huh? I m-made you happy?"
"Of course! Whenever I went back to the mansion after a break-up, I only have to take a glimpse of you as you sleep and I will find myself smiling. After a heartbreak, you, Saphi… a mere sight of you brings hope to me. Because of you, there"s always a hope in me that someday I will be able to find a guy who will accept the two of us. I mean, if he loves me, he will accept me with you. From all the relationships I"ve been with, my first concern is always the genuineness; the guy must also accept you."
Sapphire started blinking. She can actually bring joy to her mom…
"Do you know why no relationship worked out? It"s all because I break up with the guy as long as he shows unwillingness to accept you. So what if I really love him? I"ll still let go of him. I"ll just cry for a while. But I think it"s still all right to cry over a heartbreak than to remain loving a guy who won"t accept how you are also a part of me. At the end of the day, I will always have you, Saphi." The woman bowed down again, her shoulders shaking. "I"m sorry if that made me look like you never have a value for me, child. Please forgive me for making you feel that you never made me happy. But, I"m telling you it"s not true. I was only mistaken about my priorities. I was busy finding a perfect father for you but I forgot being a mother though. Saphi, baby, please… I know it"s already too late, but let Mom make it up to you."
"Mom…"
Sapphire rubbed her eyes. She didn"t want to cry because it would mean wasting Johann"s efforts. But… she feels like crying since it seems her heart couldn"t take it anymore. Her heart was almost drowning from all the happiness. She didn"t expect all what her mom has told her. She should have told her mom long ago about her feelings so that she would learn of her side earlier.
But maybe, the time now was just right.
"I love you, baby. I love you. You don"t know how much I regret not being able to come to those special days of your life. All for putting myself first. I don"t know how I can make up to you - "
"Mommy, you don"t have to. The fact that I know I actually made you happy before… that you can notice me… that you always consider me in every relationship that you had… Mom, it"s all okay now."
Her mother loves her truly in her own way.
Her mother pulled her into a hug similar to how it was in her childhood.
"I guess, the happily ever after that I wanted to have for a very long time was already with me," her mom whispered. "It"s you, child. You"re my happily ever after."
She tightened the embrace, the smile on Sapphire"s lips couldn"t be erased.
Ugh! Too much love for this night!
Thank you, G.o.d! You did hear my silent cries before. I almost thought You don"t love me until Johann came.
