Zach was introduced to the executive management of the Liu group as Old Madam Liu"s long lost grandson. They were all surprised by the news because it was so sudden. Who would have thought the infamous old lady had two grandsons that were a General before they left their active military duty? Many people knew Zach because he had been in the news several times as one of the country"s heroes, and as an esteemed General who was held in high regard by his subordinates.
Old Madam Liu initially wanted to hold a grand banquet for Zach as soon as he changed his name to Zacharias Liu, but Zach refused because he wanted to maintain a low profile as much as possible.
Old Madam Liu, the Chairman of the Liu Group, gave Zach the position of the President of the group, whereas Jeru remained as the CEO. Liu Group had a lot of subsidiaries in various industries, ranging from retail, banking, property, lifestyle, entertainment, to the hospitality industry. For this reason, Zach had a lot of things to learn before he could start working in his official post.
He would need to be coached by a group of highly skilled personnel with the right expertise, that was specially a.s.signed by the old madam to tutor Zach for at least a week. Meanwhile, Jeru felt a sense of relief because having Zach there, he could finally take some time off for himself. He was even whistling as he walked toward Zach"s office.
"Hmm… If you need anything, don"t hesitate to pester me. The HR department will a.s.sign some capable a.s.sistants to you. You"ll probably meet them tomorrow..." Jeru said with a big smile on his face as soon as he entered Zach"s new office. Zach was in the middle of a briefing by his team.
"Are you happy to have someone to share your burden?" asked Zach with a worn-out face when he noticed Jeru"s broad grin as he observed Zach"s training. Keira said it would be the same as managing the army, but Zach somehow found the business world to be more complicated. He suddenly admired Jeru for being able to handle many complicated matters of the company. He heard Jeru had been doing an excellent job leading the company as soon as Senior Liu pa.s.sed over the authority to him.
"Please make sure that you learn well because I plan to go on a long vacation soon," Jeru a.s.serted, still grinning before he left Zach"s office. He was really planning to take a long break and go somewhere with Thea so he could dedicate all of his time solely for her. Thea"s love confession brought him to cloud nine. He really wanted to tell her about his feelings too, but was having a hard time to deliver it well.
Zach, in the meantime, had started to loosen his tie as he listened to his team"s guidance. Neckties were really not his style, and he felt as though the knot would soon choke him...
"Sir, this is the current progress of each subsidiary. A lot of projects are also still pending, waiting for approval. You will have to give the green light to them first before they could proceed…" One of the executives briefed him. Zach was paying attention as he tried to digest every single detail, no matter how tiny it was.
His mobile phone rang, and it was Keira. He quickly signaled the team leader to stop the briefing as he excused himself to answer the call. After hearing what Keira had to say on the phone, he quickly dismissed everyone, saying he had an emergency before he rushed to the Yang Hospital.
Zach arrived and saw Rizie crying in Keira"s arms, while both his mother and grandfather were just sitting quietly. They were saying their silent prayers as they waited for the result of the surgery. They hoped that everything went well…
"An emergency laparotomy was required, so Grandma was immediately transferred here," Keira explained. She elaborated about what happened to her husband based on what Rizie had told her.
Rizie was still sobbing when she excused herself to go to the restroom. Her eyes were swollen from too much crying
Her heart was aching at the thought of Grandma Terry, leaving her behind. The scene of Grandma Terry losing her consciousness kept replaying in her head.
She saw chairs along the corridors on her way to the restroom and decided to sit there and calm herself down first. Although her sister-in-law had a.s.sured her that the best surgeon was in charge of the surgery, and Grandma Terry was, therefore, in good hands, Rizie still could not help but feel fearful and nervous.
She was still sobbing when she heard a man speak, "Miss, here use this."
Rizie looked up and saw a hand with a handkerchief. "Who still use handkerchiefs these days?" She automatically grumbled inside. She took the handkerchief and thanked the person before she unconsciously sneezed on it.
"Everything will be alright, so please calm yourself down and gather yourself. You have to stay strong, so your loved one will keep on fighting," said the man. Rizie raised her head to look at him, but she could not have a proper look at him because her eyes were still clouded with tears, and the bright light from the ceiling was a hindrance too. All that she could see was a man with eyegla.s.ses who was wearing a lab gown, so she concluded that he must be a doctor.
She looked at his lab gown to look for his name tag, so she could address him properly. His name was Dr. Rui Dee.
Before Rizie could say another word, the man hastily left when a nurse approached him. Rizie looked at the handkerchief with an embroidery of a small flower.
"Rui," Rizie murmured unconsciously before a smile curved her lips. "Such a gentleman," Rizie thought loudly before she wiped her tears with the handkerchief and sneezed on it again. Oh well, she would just have to wash it before she returned it.
