It was time to march from the obstacle course to the next hurdle of the day: the rappel tower.

"Rappel training is one of the obstacles and confidence training courses that all the recruits are required to navigate. Is there anybody here that has absolutely no apprehension or fear to go off the top of this tower?" Asked Sgt. Park

The soldiers looked at each other as none answered to Sgt. Park"s question because most of them fear it, except Keira, who seemed to be enthusiastically antic.i.p.ating to do it.

"It is necessary to have respect for the height because overconfidence leads to accidents in the field," explained Sgt. Park

Then, Lieutenant Jang looked at them closely and said, "We"re trying to build up your confidence. Once you"ve overcome a fear of your own, your confidence level will sprout out in everything you do."

As the recruits tied their Swiss seat rappel harnesses, they realized that today was the day to overcome any lingering fear of height, which became apparent as they viewed the tower.

Pairs of cadets shuffled to the edge once they reached the top of the rappel tower.

Thirty-seven feet, it was all it would take to be planted firmly and safely on the ground again.

It was Keira"s turn. With her back to the edge of the tower, Keira used her brake hand on the rope to hold her in place. On the left side of the Tower, her fellow recruit Trish stood ready to lower herself down.

Sgt. Cole gave the command to rappel, and the recruits kicked off the wall and swooped down, descending in ten-foot increments to the ground.

While some recruits were more hesitant than others, failure to execute was unacceptable.

"Don"t you have any fear at all?" May exclaimed after the rappel training.

"Of course I do! The Sergeant said overconfidence leads to accidents in the field. It suddenly dawned on me then, I have overconfidence about Wolf, what if..." Keira"s words were cut because of Lieutenant Torin"s voice.

"You two, come here!" Instructed Torin to Keira and May who were talking.

The two followed and said, "Yes, Lieutenant!"

"Because you have bantered during the obstacle course about food and took that training like a playground as Sgt. said, you two will be punished! Follow me!" Torin commanded and walked towards the military kitchen with a grin.

"Finally, Bro, you will be shocked by what I have prepared for you," Torin mused as he imagined Zach"s facial expression in advance.

But then, he stopped walking and quickly turned around to face Keira and May.

"You two, do you know how to cook?" He asked.

Though a bit confused, Keira and May both answered, "No, Lieutenant."

At that instant, a big smiled plastered on Torin"s face and he muttered, "Perfect!"

Keira creased her forehead and looked at May. Both their eyes were shouting one word, "freak".

They arrived at the kitchen, and Torin talked to the head chef to spare a place for the two where they could cook and prepare dinner for five people at the Conference Room B.

Torin briefed them and said, "Prepare dinner for five soldiers. It"s all up to you. Cook whatever you want or whatever you can and serve it to Conference Room B.

"Yes, Lieutenant!" Answered the two. Then Torin, who started whistling excitedly, turned around to leave.

Before Torin left he made sure he ate enough before that dinner.

Zach was on a meeting once more the whole day. But during dinner, he would meet with him and two more Generals and another Lieutenant at Conference Room B, and they would all have dinner there. Moreover, he was in charge of the diner.

...…..

Keira looked at May and said, "We don"t have mobile phones, May, so we can"t even search how to cook. Do you know where we should start?"

May shrugged her shoulders and said, "Sis, I only know how to eat, and you know that."

Keira twitched her mouth as she ma.s.saged her temple trying to think.

"We should start with rice. It looks simple. Let"s just mix things up like how we eat it. Or maybe let"s just fry it in oil. It"s easier.

Then the two began to work because they only had an hour and a half to prepare the said dinner.

Keira tried to cook an omelet since she thought it was the simplest while May tried to cook rice. But even then, she couldn"t do it properly. It was either getting burned or was not cooked well.

"I"ll just do beef stew, May," she said, thinking it"s easier as she started getting the ingredients she often saw whenever she ate beef stew.

Then Keira looked for vegetables and meat and cut it all in squares.

"Hey why cut like that. It"s so ugly," commented May when she saw the potato and
carrots were cut with different shapes as if it was cut with a blunt knife.

"That"s okay. It will look the same once they are hungry, besides, it"s the taste that counts." Keira mumbled with pouty lips.

May laughed and said, "Oh yes, right, those soldiers will curse us alive. No, they will roast us alive, Keira. We are so doomed!"

Keira scratched her head. She couldn"t even try tasting what she cooked. She asked May but the latter refused to taste the beef stew she had cooked.

"How about you try cooking one more dish, May?" Keira said and the latter shook her head.

"I really don"t know how to cook. That"s fine. It looks edible anyway, so don"t worry. Let"s just wait for their reaction about the dinner. It"s almost seven. Let"s go and serve it," said May as she prepared the servings.

"It"s like an initiation, Keira. I bet those soldiers are meant to be punished, that"s why Lieutenant Jang asked us to cook though we said we don"t know how to," commented May, as they headed to the Conference Room B.

"I bet he wanted to prank them," Keira said in a jest with a laugh.

May and Keira knocked on the door and when they heard the signal to come in, Keira brought in the food cart and she cursed inwardly seeing who was inside the room.

Zach was there... and she was totally doomed!
