Zach was in deep thought as he walked back to the hall. He was smiling on his own, as Keira"s face kept on popping up in his head.

"Even while sleeping she still has that mischievous grin and aura," he murmured as he whistled.

Then he laughed at the thought of his own silliness of getting Jeru drunk; who did nothing but used flowery words in front of him to get Keira"s attention.

He felt like he acted like a child a while ago but he did that because he was getting irritated by Jeru"s advances, especially, seeing Keira acting sweet and even touching Jeru"s arm.

His thoughts were interrupted when he noticed a cadet, rus.h.i.+ng towards him.

"General! General!" shouted the cadet.

"General, there"s an emergency, you are immediately needed at the headquarters," said the cadet who was still panting.

Zach ran towards the headquarters. When he was pa.s.sing by the hall, in a haste, he grabbed Torin as well.

Torin, who seemed to get what was going on, said to Lana in a rush, "I have to go! But I"ll come back for you!"

Lana was left confused by those words as she looked at Torin who ran after Zach.

Then she heard Lieutenant Long commented, "Being a part of that selective Special Forces is not easy…"

She wanted to ask for more details, but Lieutenant Long stood up to help General Liu who pa.s.sed out with other soldiers.

...................

The next morning, Keira woke up with a heavy headache, but her lips quickly curved upwards because she just had a very good dream.

It was about Zach kissing her in that dream. As she touched her lips, she felt as if it was real.

"Was it only a dream, but it felt so real." She mused giggling.

The only thing she could remember was the piggyback ride that Zach had given her. Then she couldn"t recall what happened next.

Everyone was occupied by quickly getting ready as they needed to rush outside to start their daily exercises.

They did the usual exercises, and Keira was a bit disappointed because she did not see Zach, who often monitored the morning exercises, at all.

"How come I don"t see Wolf and Falcon? Did they get drunk or something?" Keira asked May and Lana during breakfast.

Lana was the one to answer, "It"s actually weird. Last night… I think there"s some kind of an emergency that the two of them ran from the party."

Lana elaborated the exact scene that happened, how a cadet was looking for Zach, who timely arrived back at the party after settling Keira in her unit, then grab Torin in haste.

After hearing that, Keira stood up and said, "I"ll be right back. I"ll just go and see Dad."

Then she hurriedly ran to her dad"s office…

"Special Force?" how she hated those words since she was a kid. She and her mom cursed those two words. They had the tendency to be as good as a "suicide mission" often than not.

"Did something happen?" She asked as soon as she got to her father"s office. Her heart was beating loudly. For some reason, she felt that something was not right. She was nervous and feeling restless.

Field Marshal Chan was startled to see her.

"Where is Zach?" She asked, hoping her hunch was wrong this time.

Field Marshal Chan sighed as he said, "There was an emergency. He was sent out last night for a crucial mission."

Keira felt her knees shaken and weaken… as her body lost balance and she ended up falling on her knees onto the floor…

That missions, the crucial and dangerous ones, those missions usually took years.

She could even recall how she cried a lot whenever her father went on that kind of missions as part of the Special Forces. If they were lucky enough, it took a year the fastest, but most often than not, it took more than a year…

The waiting was bearable, the thing she and her mom hated the most was the part of waiting wherein they did not know if her father would ever be back alive, in one piece, and well.

Unconsciously, tears started falling from her eyes as her father gently picked her up from the floor.

"Dear, he is a soldier, a General. Out of all the people, you should know how this kind of work goes for us." Said Field Marshal Chan, as his heart was breaking, seeing his daughter"s distressed state…The same state whenever he said farewell to her to go on a confidential mission.

"But he just left like that… He never said a thing at all… I mean I feel like..." she murmured, stuttering a bit as she paused and couldn"t continue pus.h.i.+ng the words out of her mouth.

She felt at a loss at that moment as mixed emotions took over her.

She just cried as she closed her fists and tapped her chest. She felt that air was blocked because of her continuous sobbing.

The pain she was feeling was so real. She tried her best to hide it because her dad was beside her but she couldn"t.

She felt her dad"s embrace as he comforted her.

"You are still young, my dear. A lot of things can happen. You are a very strong girl, and daddy believes in you sooo much. The gra.s.s is always greener. It"s important to enjoy your own pasture, safe in the knowledge, it"ll grow and thrive at its own pace. Life"s not a race. Love"s not a race..." Field Marshal Chan whispered as he gently stroked Keira"s hair.

"Yes, my daughter deserves someone who makes her feel beautiful, someone who makes her feel special," he added as he gently pushed Keira and brushed strands of stray hair covering her face so he could intently look at her.

Afterward, he smiled and said, "You deserve to be someone"s first priority… AND IN GOOD TIME, chances are that you"ll have that person… But for now, that person has to be you…"
