Zach was very confused when he walked back to his Grandpa Shen"s room.He was sure that he only did the right thing but he feared that he had somehow made Keira sad.
"But she smiled." He thought as he recalled Keira"s face as she said the words "I"ll see you tomorrow".
"She"s good I guess. She will be fine." He murmured as he walked.
As soon as he entered his Grandpa Shen"s room, he was greeted with a wide and excited smile of his grandmother.
"Child, why did you take her back so early. I was enjoying talking to her. C"mon, tell me since when do you know each other?" She chided still smiling coupled with her teasing eyes.
Zach sighed because he knew how happy grandma Terri was, thinking that he had finally found a girlfriend or someone they could couple him with.
"Grandma, Keira is not my girlfriend. She is Field Marshal"s daughter and she just visited since she happened to be admitted here too. Please don"t make a.s.sumptions and don"t tease her about me too. You"ll make her feel uncomfortable," answered Zach as he sat beside his grandma.
He was startled when he felt a hard hit on his back.
"Ouch!" He exclaimed.
"You brat! Are you stupid? That girl obviously likes you, and I can sense that she"s a nice person. She"s so adorable and very beautiful. I like how open, but at the same time, timid she looked when I teased her about you," scolded his Grandma Terri.
Then she looked intently at Zach and noticed the muddled expression of his face.
Grandma Terri sighed and held Zach"s hands, "My child, why don"t you let go of your past already. I mean, I know it"s a bit hard because you"ve been attached to Thea since childhood, however, do you want to stay like that? Imprisoned by your past? Do you still love her after everything? I mean, it"s been already years, Zach. Let her go. Let yourself go from her hold."
Zach gave his grandmother a worn-out smile.
"Grandma, there"s no love but hatred. That"s what is left and what I"m feeling for Thea right now. I know what I have to do. If we are talking about going into a new relations.h.i.+p, to be honest, I am still working on it." He said and he paused for a while as he thought about what he should say about Keira.
"About Keira, she"s been open to me about how she is feeling. She has actually told me she likes me and not just once but thrice. But Grandma, Keira is just nineteen years old. Her feelings can"t be stable at that age, though she might feel they are, we both know that it"s not true. There"s a lot of things to consider… and I vowed to commit to a relations.h.i.+p only when I know that it"s a real one. I mean, when I know that she"s the one I will be spending a lifetime with," explained Zach, carefully choosing his words to make his Grandma Terri understand his point of view.
Grandma looked at Zach intently and asked, "But you do like that girl, right? Because I can sense that you do. You seem to be smitten with her and you also fancy her."
Zach did not respond but remained quiet while Grandma Terri tried to read his grandson"s expression.
Then she let out a long, deep sigh and added, "Alright, it will only be fair for both of you if you sort out your feelings yourself. I mean, there"s still hatred in your heart. It only means you are still locked up with past. You have to let go of it totally so that if ever you enter into another relations.h.i.+p, there will be no doubt at all."
Zach smiled and said, "Grandma, I know what I"m doing… It"s for the best. I"m not that old for you guys to rush me to get into a relations.h.i.+p. Let me fix myself first. Besides, you know I hate being manipulated, especially when it comes to these things. When it comes to my personal life, I will decide on things on my own. But of course, I do listen well to all your advice and will consider everything before coming to a decision."
"Okay, but please make sure that you won"t make us wait too long. You are the oldest of the children… of course, we are all excited about a great-grandchild roaming in our home. I mean we are also not getting any younger. How nice would it be if we were able to see your future children before our time ended." Said Grandma Terri with a hint of a complaint as her lips twisted.
Zach laughed, seeing how his grandmother acted like a child throwing tantrums.
"If I am thirty and still single, then you can nag me all you want," he said laughing.
Grandma Terri"s nostrils flared. "Do we have to wait for another two to three years?" She wanted to scream out but only sighed.
She couldn"t blame Zach because the scars that Thea had left him were deep. Thea was his world. She was also one of the reasons Zach gave his all to achieve something, to give Thea a better future, but she left him like he was nothing, without even a proper closure. She just left with a single note.
Grandma Terri"s face darkened as she recalled how rude that woman is! Who was Zach for her that she just left a note about how miserable she felt with him, that she had her dreams and all the bulls.h.i.+t she wrote.
No matter how she justified everything, what she did only meant one thing: her love towards Zach was too shallow.
She purposely shook her head as she erased the memory of that hateful woman whose face she wanted to scratch so badly.
On the other hand, Zach stood up and check the presents which he presumed were brought by Keira.
Then his face became serious. He knew that he hurt her somehow but he still thought that he did what was right. He was not ready to start a relations.h.i.+p, not yet, regardless of how much he liked the person.
He would not compromise. It"s not because he was a coward or was afraid of it, but because he did not want to become selfish.
He recalled how well everything was going with Thea that he thought he could make her happy.
But reality proved him wrong. Women, especially young ones, had a lot of complicated things in their lives.
