"If you are talking about a blond woman in a lab gown, then the answer is yes" She answered as her eyebrows curled. "Was meeting her a bad thing?""Not really" He answered and warned "Just don"t get too close with her. That woman hates me."
"And why?"
"We are both candidates for the team leader position" He revealed. "Sign these papers first, it"s a must."
Xhemin reached out for the bulk of papers that Dr. Cyan handed to her. She scanned it immediately.
"Confidentiality agreement and some employment papers" He added when he noticed the girl dug through the doc.u.ments intensively.
"Got it" She answered and strode past him. She went to a small study table at one corner and signed the papers one by one as soon as she was sure of their regularity.
"About Dr. Piper, I don"t really think I can be friends with her. So, you don"t have to worry about it" Xhemin trailed off while she was busy with the doc.u.ments "Did any of the horses died today?"
"Not in the barn I"m a.s.signed of. I haven"t check with the other barns" He a.s.sured her and impatiently asked, "Where should we start?"
"Bring me to those which have been severely infected" She answered to him. She wasn"t sure how worst the situation was in the mansion. However, she hoped that her arrival wasn"t too late.
"Let"s go to the east barn then. That"s the place where we first notice the Staw disease and the horses there were the first one being infected" He suggested. "By the way, you have to wear those"
Xhemin made a glance and saw the doctor pointing to some clothes laid neatly on one side of the bed.
"Those are lab gowns" He explained.
"Thanks." She simply answered and withdrew her focus back to the papers she was signing on.
It took Xhemin an hour to finish the necessary papers she was required to sign. She wore her lab gown immediately after that and Doctor Cyan lead her to the east barn. On their way out, they pa.s.sed through the main hall of the mansion and one particular furniture caught Xhemin"s attention.
"This mirror is authentic right?" She asked, she halted her steps in front of an enormous mirror standing glamorously in the middle of the room.
Dr. Cyan also halted his steps and stood beside the girl. "You are right. It is beautiful, isn"t it?"
"Are you kidding me? It"s super-duper beautiful!" Incredulously she exclaimed "If I"m not mistaken this is the famous Moonlight mirror"
Xhemin who was very close to Huzey had also learnt so much about arts, and she was aware of the legendary art pieces of this country. The Moonlight Mirror was one of these famous pieces of all time.
"Wow, the owner of this mansion might be super wealthy. They said the moonlight mirror is a legendary piece, not to mention how super expensive it is" the girl who stand in awe in front of the mirror added. "I can"t believe I"m seeing this piece, they said this piece was gone a long time ago"
"Well, rumors say the lady boss got it in an underground auction" The Doctor recalled and went on "She got this just a week ago"
Dr. Cyan understood the little missus" astonishment. He himself was knocked down with a feather when he first saw the piece. It was told that this art piece was gone a long time ago without trace—stolen perhaps— but here it was standing in blaze of glory, as a centerpiece attraction of this grand hall.
"An underground auction…" Xhemin gave the doctor a look wavering between disbelief and distrust. "You mean your boss had connections with the black market?"
"As they said. But n.o.body really knew" He pulled a face and shrugged.
"Your boss is a powerful person and somehow dangerous" she concluded, with so much curiosity in her eyes.
The corners of the doctor"s mouth turned severely "I would"ve been more impressed"
"Very beautiful" Xhemin murmured under her breathe as she looked at the mirror again, enough for Dr. Cyan to hear.
"Well, they specifically placed this at this side of the mansion because of the swimming pool just outside the gla.s.s doors" He pointed behind them "At night, they open the gla.s.s doors and the view of the water s.h.i.+mmering under the moonlight is reflected in the mirror. That"s the real attraction"
"The view of the mirror is already enough for me to be honest" She declared as her eyes lit up.
After the two satisfied themselves with the view, they head out to the east barn. The place was big, bigger than what Xhemin expected and it was the smell of the barn that hit her first. A puff of sweet, musty odor of straw pressed slow into her nose as well as the study musk of animal fur.
She noticed that there were several people in the place. Some of the men, that she thought were laborers, were fully covered with their overalls and boots, distinguished from the veterinarians who were on their lab gowns the same as Xhemin wore.
They entered the place and an impressive number of bales of hay welcomed them as well as Dr. Piper Xu, who instantly noticed them.
"Dr. Cyan, are you lost or something? The last time I checked you are a.s.signed to the west barn" She started out dryly and unfriendly.
"Good day Dr. Piper" Dr. Cyan greeted ignoring her hostility which irritated the woman more "I just came here to show my new a.s.sistant the east barn and to give her an idea of the type of horses that is in here"
"Well, you should also teach her the fact that only competent veterinarians were a.s.signed here. And the non-competent are a.s.signed in the west barn" Exploded by the woman in a fit of exasperation.
"I"m not here to argue with that" He said calmly "You don"t mind me checking around the place, right?" he added in a sound that"s rather telling "you don"t own the place".
"Whatever" Dr. Piper rolled her eyes and caressed the hem of her lab gown, she looked at the girl beside her rival and said "Just one look at that newbie and I can tell she"s of no help"
"You can never tell" said Dr. Cyan with a self-satisfied smirk on his face.
"Of course, I can tell. I know how to a.s.sess people which are one of the things you don"t know" She hollered completely infuriated. She turned her back at the two stamping with rage as she walked out the place.
