The Genius' First Love

Aviona"s hand was shaking and her tears once again started falling from her eyes. She looked down at the doc.u.ments again, reading the whole thing over and over again.

"Did you do this to end up my misery or you did this to end up yours?" Aviona suddenly accused.

"Aviona, I… I don"t know to explain this to you," There was some glint of guilt in his voice.

When he knew that Martin was barren, Dr. Miles became ultimately concern on how the couple would go through it, especially on how Aviona would deal with it. However, he admitted within him that it wasn"t the only reason why he made some unconsented procedures in their IVF process. There was also some force within him, a personal force and longing that got him to do such a forbidden act.

"Explain this to me and tell the truth right to my face," Aviona pleaded. She felt so betrayed on what Dr. Miles did but she couldn"t dare to hate the doctor.

"It"s your husband"s work," Dr. Miles started sighing. "That was the research he left for Feather Health Care,"

"These is a research proposing a further development on artificial insemination," Aviona told him what she had read as if the doctor didn"t know. Her eyebrows arched terribly with the details, "Frozen sperms? Did my husband left some frozen sperms?"

"It was only a month ago that I had guts to read this," Dr. Miles revealed to her. Like Aviona, he was having hard time letting go of the pain and so he intentionally didn"t like messing around things that would remind him of his son and that included the research he made for Feather HeathCare. "And when I went to visit his lab, I saw some of his own sperm samples in his personal sperm bank. It seemed that he had been trying out his own samples for the research,"

Aviona swallowed a cry thinking through it. Melvin probably took his own sperm samples for his innocent desire of studying frozen eggs and sperms and didn"t intend to leave such samples for future use.

"I didn"t think it would work Aviona," Dr. Miles admitted miserably, "I just tried it with you when I find out Martin was barren. I didn"t know it would work out well provided my Melvin was sick,"

Aviona didn"t know what to say. She wanted to be happy knowing that Ava, her daughter was a piece of Melvin, but she cannot also completely take joy for what Dr. Miles did specially that it was her own marriage that was at stake.

"But you knew it was wrong," Aviona lamented, "You let Dr. Santana inject to me Melvin"s sperm without my consent making it believe it was Martin"s,"

"I know I"m sorry," Dr. Miles growled in frustration. He was upset how weak and desperate he became and how he dragged Aviona into such mess unwillingly, "But like you I don"t know how to go on with this life anymore and I thought maybe, maybe if my Melvin had left me a grandchild, perhaps things would be a little better. Perhaps I can still be happy. Perhaps we all can be happy,"

"How can we all be happy with this lie?" Aviona"s voice was low right then but it contained all the resentment she had with what Dr. Miles did. She somehow understood how he felt because like her, he lost Melvin too. "Melvin wanted us to move on from him Dr. Miles and what you did was a total—"

"Have you moved on?" Dr. Miles cut through her words.

Aviona only cried with the question because she knew, like Dr. Miles", she hasn"t. She married Martin for the hopes that she can moved on but as everyday went by, she ended up longing and loving Melvin more. Her world revolved around him even with Martin in her side.

"Ava is my Melvin"s daughter," Aviona concluded cupping her head. "I don"t know how to feel about it Dr. Miles but it felt so wrong in many ways especially that Martin, oh G.o.d Martin! How am I supposed to tell him this?"

"I"ll take full responsibility on what I did," Dr. Miles told Aviona, but the latter only shook her head. Although Dr. Miles had made a terrible mistake, she cannot dare to watch him ruin his own career and reputation just because of it. Despite everything, she still loved Dr. Miles as if he was her own father.

"No, no," Aviona protested on Dr. Miles plan but she was still upset about what he did so she uttered scrupulously, "Just please… please stay away from my family for now…I don"t want you to intervene with this… what you had done is enough…"

"Aviona let me help you," Dr. Miles begged the girl. "It"s my fault, I can explain to Martin that—"

"You can"t tell him Ava is Melvin"s daughter!" Aviona exclaimed, "Just please let me handle it. Martin had always been jealous of Melvin and if he knew that Ava was my first husband"s daughter it will only make everything worst,"

"…Just stay away from my family Dr. Miles," Aviona repeated. Aside from the fact that she was angry about what the doctor did, she was also concern about his reputation as a doctor and so as much as possible she didn"t want the world to know about what he did. Dr. Miles was a great person and he had helped many people, if his reputation will be ruined, a lot of people"s lives will be ruined too, especially those who looked up onto him.

Aviona understood right then that no matter how good and perfect a person was, like Dr. Miles, at times of weakness and loneliness, the human nature tends to make us do things that were completely opposite about everything we believed and hoped for. Dr. Miles had been terribly lonely because of Melvin and Madam Sarah"s death and that loneliness made him desire to have someone, a grandchild, whom he can continue to live for. Only that to make it happen, he had to make a huge medical crime.
