The Goblins Revenge

Chapter 17

After a night of restless sleep, Will slowly opened his eyes. He let out a sluggish yawn, while grabbing a handful of random fruits and nuts from next to his bed and stuff his mouth. However, Will froze halfway through his first chew, because through his "secret" trap door a head was peeking through, intensely staring at him. Long cascading red hair held down by gravity coming from the upside down head. Will slowly finished his one chew, then with a painful swallow consumed his breakfast.

He didn"t move, he stood still just staring at the beautiful face of Sister Lina that was staring back at him. With a sudden movement Sister Lina"s head disappeared through the trap door, and instead a foot stomped down on the floor of Will"s "house". Because Sister Lina had to stretch her leg to land her food through the trap door, her dress was partially caught and it revealed a long plump and pale leg. After a brief glimpse of her leg, a second foot came through the trap door while Sister Lina"s dress fell down to her feed again. She kneeled down and was now in full view, Will scurried backwards however the wall wasn"t far behind him so he was cornered.

"Don"t be afraid." Lina said with an almost angelic voice, both calm and soothing. She looked around the place and was quite surprised by the elaborate decoration and layout of the church"s foundation. "Quite the place you have here." She covered her mouth while letting out a short giggle. Will was caught by surprise and let out a guttural chortle, but immediately covered his mouth and kept quiet. Sister Lina let out another giggle. "So you can understand me, that"s the first time I"ve heard of a Goblin who can understand humans." Will let his mental guard down, he realized she wasn"t hostile in any way. "Not afraid?" Will"s words were clumsy, he knew proper sentence structures by now, but he had zero practice talking to people. He wanted to be as direct as possible so no misunderstandings would happen. "Why would I be afraid of the one who came to my rescue." Sister Lina had a heartwarming smile as she spoke to Will and continued. "Why don"t you come up for a while so we can talk, it"s a bit cramped here for me, and my knees are getting weak." She climbed out of trap door, leaving Will sitting in his bed.

Will just stared blankly into empty s.p.a.ce for a while, organizing his thoughts. After blinking a couple of times, he nodded his head and slowly moved towards the exit. He jumped out of the trap door and moved out from under the kitchen table, where Sister Lina was waiting for him. As soon as Will came into view, Sister Lina pulled him into a serene embrace. "Thank you, and may the warm embrace of the mother give you strength." As she whispered the sentence, Will felt a wave of comfortable tingling flowing through his entire body. He didn"t have any adverse reaction to the sensation, it just calmed him while also clearing the fogginess in his mind from recently waking up. [There"s an actual physical effect from this prayer?] Will"s thoughts raced while he was enjoying the sensation of the embrace.

"So does my savior have a name? Or should I just call you Goblin?" Sister Lina released the hug and got back up on her feet. Will looked up at her and confidently smacked his chest with his three fingered palm. "Will!" "Oh my, what a wonderful name! Although a bit strange for a Goblin. I don"t mean any offense of course." To Will"s surprise she didn"t seem phased in the slightest, she just started moving around the kitchen preparing her breakfast while speaking to him. "So I take it you"re the one who has been scurrying around the church at all hours of the night, right? Also "borrowing" my books? I don"t really mind to be honest, I"m just glad you"re not a giant rat." She laughed, it was almost as if she was having a conversation with herself.

Will was surprised by how talkative she was, usually she only spoke this much during cla.s.ses, however she was talking up a storm. Constantly firing question after question at Will about everything he had been doing in town. She had deduced that he had been there since mid summer, because she remembered the distinct knock on the floor from Will"s first day. Will gave short one or two word responses to her questions, and soon Sister Lina had a good grasp of his adventures so far. After talking for a while, Will suddenly recalled something. "Foster?" he looked at her with an expression of sham, while asking. "Oh him? He"s fine, the wound only looked bad, he pa.s.sed out due to his drinking. After you disappeared into the floor, I went out looking for the lamplighter, and he helped me carry Foster home." Her att.i.tude was almost nonchalant considering what almost happened yesterday, but Will figured her att.i.tude was due to her religious beliefs. "I am glad, not a murderer." Will mumbled as he looked down in relief. Sister Lina walked to will with a plate in her hand, she put it down on the floor in front of him then patted him on the head. "Don"t worry, the fact that I never noticed you already means you"re far from evil." With those words she smiled at Will and sat down at the table to eat her own breakfast.

Will took a spoonful of soggy oats with berries, and stuffed his mouth. He then looked up at Sister Lina while thinking: [Wait, what?!]
