Chapter 1893: Cupid
There was something similar that occurred twice in one year. One was the western Valentine’s Day, while the other was the eastern Valentine’s day.
Other smaller countries might also have their own similar traditions, but their influence was limited. Furthermore, games could not have the same event too many times, since that would spoil its meaning.
The Valentine’s Day within the game was designed quite well and there were many things to do.
Many people would find a fake partner to spend Valentine’s Day in game. After all, there was no way for the game masters to know that they were real or fake couples anyway. However, many players who found fake partners slowly became a real couple as well.
They found the NPC in charge to send them into the Instance Dungeon, and after paying the fee, they entered.
The first dungeon was the Spider Nest, which was the lowest-levelled instance dungeon in Dawn. Lu Li and Water Fairy could both one-shot the mobs with a normal attack.
Lu Li recalled this as being the first step that he had taken in his newly-reborn life. This dungeon was also his very first First Clear.
Lu Li was responsible for killing the mobs, while Water Fairy was responsible for looting. Although the loot was all low-levelled, worthless materials, this feeling of working together was very couple-like.
On the way to the first Boss, they finally saw the first Lovebird.
The game supersized the designs of these Lovebirds from their real-world counterparts. They were approximately half a metre long each and had a brownish black head. There was a yellow collar around their necks and their breast was coloured green. Their back and wings were light-green with the tips of the wings being black, their tails being green and their feet being grey.
In the real world, these birds were also called lovebirds. This was because they did not leave their partners for as long as they lived.
Since the Spider Nest was a level 10 Instance Dungeon, the Lovebirds here were all level 10 as well.
Although the Dungeon was on Elite difficulty, it was still unable to withstand Lu Li’s normal attack.
“I’ll loot,” Water Fairy said as she immediately teleported to the side of the Lovebird.
“Are you saying that I have bad luck?”
Lu Li’s expression was one that was extremely unimpressed.
“How can that be?” Water Fairy felt awkward but managed to keep her smile and composure and continued, “I’ve been the one looting this whole time. Furthermore, look at my hands, then look at yours. Are your hands any whiter than mine?”
These were all fleeting thoughts, but Lu Li’s attention was instantly diverted to Water Fairy’s little white hands.
There were two Love Red Wires from the first Lovebird. Both of them were transferred into Water Fairy’s storage. Lu Li didn’t care about it. There were two people that he was generous with. One was his own sister and the other was probably this woman in front of him.
This tandem of Lu Li and Water Fairy quickly progressed to Stratholme’s Instance Dungeon. By this time, they had acc.u.mulated quite a few Love Red Wires.
After arriving at Stratholme, Lu Li couldn’t be the only one fighting. Even if these were small mobs, he was unable to one-shot them any longer. They couldn’t relax when it came to the Boss either, otherwise, they were in danger of being wiped.
“Let’s go grind the Rivendare’s Deathcharger. It might drop,” Water Fairy suggested.
The two of them proceeded to go and grind for Rivendare’s Deathcharger.
Although it was difficult, Water Fairy and Lu Li were able to purchase this mount with a small price. After all, there was no mount-locking system in place yet.
For the sake of limiting the number of items floating in the market and encouraging everyone to play the game whole-heartedly, the gaming company decided to implement an equipment and tool locking system. This system locked most mounts, some items and a few special tools.
This implementation meant that an item that a rewarded item would become untradeable after 30 minutes of trading it.
Even if there was a 30 minute window to trade it, only party members who were in the battle were able to receive it. This caused a wave of complaints from many players, but it was futile.
As a result, Lu Li began to stockpile and h.o.a.rd as many mounts as he could now and opened a special storage area for them.
When the locking system was implemented, there would be a great inflation in the prices of the mounts. At that time, mounts would be extremely profitable. This was probably the last thing that Lu Li was able to use his knowledge on to be able to profit from buying and selling.
The two of them entered Baron Rivendare’s room, but they didn’t find Rivendare.
Instead, they found a Boss that was not typical of what a Stratholme Boss would look like. From its appearance, it just looked like a naked little boy with a pair of wings on his back. In his hands, there was a short bow that was enveloped in a soft light.
“This is…” Water Fairy was shocked.
“This is the Boss, huh?” Lu Li sighed.
“This is a cupid, you uncultured swine,” Water Fairy scolded, unable to help herself. She sighed and looked at the Boss with beaming eyes. “The game designers have earned their money. This Boss is so cute.
“Kill him! Quick! Surely he’ll drop something good!” Lu Li cried out, nearly drooling.
This was a complete surprise. After all, they just expected there to be another Lovebird. They did not expect to see the event’s Boss.
There were four Bosses for the Valentine’s Day event – Cupid, Nice, Matchmaker, Cowherd and the Weaving Maid. The Cowherd and Weaving Maid had the same cooldown times, so these two Bosses were counted as one Boss. These Bosses’ levels were affected by the map that they sp.a.w.ned in
The Cupid in front of them was subst.i.tuting for Baron Rivendare. As such, his level was the same as the Baron’s.
However, event Bosses were not difficult. After all, there were only two people fighting them. Some people even went as far as to find Healing cla.s.ses, especially Paladins, to be their partners. After all, Paladins were capable of a little DPS and could tank well.
As for these two Thieves, they could only try their best to maintain crowd control on the Cupid.
Fortunately for them, Bosses were susceptible to crowd-control skills. However, they were unable to control the Cupid like they did other players.
Water Fairy was a little reluctant to fight the Cupid. After all, he was a cute little boy.
Lu Li didn’t think that Water Fairy was being unreasonable. After all, he thought that a girl like Water Fairy didn’t like children, but that clearly wasn’t the case. He felt warm inside knowing this.
Fortunately, the Cupid transformed into a sinister monster after the battle commenced.
From a cla.s.s standpoint, he was likely to be a combination of a Hunter and Priest. He would use a healing skill on himself every 10% decrease in HP. Therefore, they needed to interrupt the skill animation each time.
With two Thieves here, it was not a problem at all. In fact, it was probably overkill.
Hunters fired arrows as their DPS method. The Cupid’s normal attacks did not deal much damage. The damage was less than 100 per hit on a level 70 player. However, his magic arrows dealt a lot of damage. Each arrow dealt at least 300 damage. In a situation without a healer, this was extremely lethal.
Lu Li and Water Fairy rotated as they each fought the Boss and tanked the damage. Once their HP reached a certain threshold, they would retreat and heal themselves with bandages.
