Malika.

Aswan, Egypt.

December 19, 2009.

12:30 pm.

The door closed harshly after Farah went through it. She turned around and looked at it and ran her hand over it. Many hieroglyphics engraved neatly on the gigantic vintage door and a strong smell of freshly made coffee filled Farah"s nose.

It was a unique coffee smell mixed with some fresh mint smell which she never thought it could mix that well— she smelled it before, she thought to herself— she slowly turned around to find the same gigantic library she was in before the police took her earlier.

The same library filled with thousands of books, row after row neatly lined up with their spines facing outward. Five feet away from her was a metal railing and long stairs. Malika and Noah went down, Farah looked at their faces hoping they would look freaked as she was feeling yet both looked calm. "It"s the same place! It"s the same house!" she said and followed them.

"Do you like it?" Hakim"s unique voice came from underneath the stairs. "Hakim."

He raised his hands slightly to shook hers, she looked at his hand before taking it firmly between hers. Her eyes traced her hand when she touched his, a sudden electric strike filled her veins painfully. She looked up at Hakim who seemed unfazed and almost not moving.

Farah"s eyes moved back at their hands and found blindingly golden strings coming out of every cell of her hand slightly touching his. In a split of a long second, before she could even react, everything went back to normal.

"Farah"— she moved her hand away and looked at the rest— "where are we? Why I"m the only one freaking out?"

"No need to freak out." Hakim sat on a right burgundy Barcelona chair in front of a center gla.s.s wall that showed the view of the Nile.

"How did we get here?" she said angrily, in a split of a second all she was feeling was anger, something touched a nerve in her, something she didn"t understand.

"Calm down," Malika said to Farah.

"Stop telling me to calm down and tell me what is going on!?" Farah yelled at them.

"I will, but seriously you need to calm down because it"s a long story and I need you as stable as possible," Malika said.

"Fine, how did we come here?" Farah said and waited for Malika to answer but it was nothing but dead silence for a whole long minute. Farah asked again without breaking eye contact with Malika.

"Well… We went back in time."

"We what now?" Farah said.

A moment of silence broke by Noah"s sudden question. "It was real?" Noah looked at Malika with an unreadable face.

"Yeah," Malika said, smiling at him.

"You understood what she said?" Farah asked Noah, pointing at Malika.

"I will tell you everything." Malika walked away and started to tell them what happened.

December 19, 2009.

2:45 am.

Noah screamed again yet this time louder, Donggun slammed the door and saw Noah"s whole body in abnormal shades of red and forcefully shaking. Words in Hangul appeared again on his forearm while he was screaming painfully. His sweat covered the pillow beneath his head and the thin bed sheet covering his chest. His heartbeats were increasing drastically marking its way into a heart attack.

The sound of no heartbeat on the heart rate monitor was the only thing Noah heard then a faded female voice started calling him. "NOAH." He opened and closed his eyes several times to see clearly. "Noah, are you okay?!" the voice said again and sounded more familiar to him. He opened his eyes widely; Malika was squatting down to reach him.

"Mal…"— she helped him to stand up. He looked around not recognizing the place he was in— "where am I?" Malika looked confused and didn"t know what to answer him. She opened her mouth to answer but closed it after sighing.

"I call this place Barzakh," Hakim said and stood next to Malika, Noah startled when Hakim spoke, he appeared out of nowhere.

"What? Who are you? Where am I?" Noah asked with fear clearly heard from his voice.

"Noah, look, there is no time. Apparently, our reality is changing that"s why you"re here now!"— Malika held his hand, he looked puzzled— "I promise you; I will get you and Farah but please remember!" Malika said and left his hand.

"Remember what… Where are we? What are you talking about? What reality?!" Noah said.

"I can"t explain anything now, but you can say this is Egypt… somehow." she took a deep breath and looked again at his wide eyes. "Just remember! I will come to get you, but I have to get Addaya first!" she said and walked away.

"Wait!" Noah felt the ground underneath him span, everything went in a blur and he lost his conscious. Seconds later Noah was sleeping on a mattress in an unfurnished apartment in downtown Cairo.
