When Mu Yi caught up with Anong, she was standing in the hallway alone. The young man who she chased after was nowhere to be seen. Just looking at her back, she appears like she"ll break down at any minute."Are you alright?" Mu Yi asked, hugging her from behind. He won"t ask any questions about the young man, or else Anong may break down if he did ask her.
"Yes." Somehow hearing Mu Yi"s deep low voice brought a sense of security and calmness within me.
Seeing Aiden here made me confused about what was going on. Someone who I had known for three years to suddenly disappear and then show up in front of me two years later. It was apparent whoever took Aiden and his mom did not want to leave any evidence behind they had ever existed.
"Should I check if he is still here?" Mu Yi held Anong tighter in his arms, he could feel the anxiety emitting off her.
"No," I shook my head. Closing my eyes, I wrapped my hand around the crescent moon ring on my right pointer finger.
Something doesn"t feel right about all of this. Aiden is hiding something from me, that"s why he ran away when he realized it was me. Was there something I wasn"t supposed to see or was it something he didn"t want me to see? I don"t know which one is the right answer, but I do know one thing for sure. Mu Yi should not get involved.
"Should we go get our rooms?" I broke through Mu Yi"s hug and headed towards the elevator nearby.
"I can just call to settle our room," Mu Yi took out his phone to make a phone call to the front desk. With his status and money, getting a room in this hotel is a piece of cake.
"No," I answered, walking into the opened elevator. "I lost an item here, I need to ask the front desk if anyone saw it."
Mu Yi followed along, though he didn"t like the monotone she was talking in. She was so lifeless. Especially when she is usually so energetic that he could never keep up with her. He would rather let her make snarky comments at him than be like this.
While down at the front desk lobby, Mu Yi insisted he"ll do all the talking and booking. He wanted me to sit down over here away from the front desk to relax. I apparently didn"t appear to look too well. I guess the shock of seeing Aiden was too much.
"No, like I said, I need to ask them for something as well." I got up from the chair Mu Yi forced me to sit down on.
"What are you looking for?" Mu Yi asked, not moving away so Anong can get past him.
It was odd Mu Yi wouldn"t let me go ask the receptionist myself, but I wasn"t in the mood to argue with him either.
"It"s a jeweled peach blossom hairpin," I tried describing how it looks to the best it can.
Mu Yi nodded his head as if the hairpin wasn"t in his pocket at this very moment, "Okay, I"ll ask for you."
Then he strolled off to the male receptionist who was making sneak peeks at them here and there.
Almost five minutes pa.s.sed, and Mu Yi was still talking to the receptionist. I couldn"t sit around waiting for him to return with our key cards anymore. More like I need to know the answer to my hairpin, so I know what to do next. Good thing I glanced their way in time to see that Mu Yi was handed only one key card.
"One?" I narrowed my eyes. That means we were given only one room when we needed two separate room.
"Yes, there is only one room available. Right?" Mu Yi turned to face the receptionist, who quickly nodded his head.
"Are you sure?" I questioned, making sure the receptionist eyes were on me and not on Mu Yi.
"Of course!" He confidently replied back without looking at Mu Yi.
Hmm, it was hard to tell if he was lying to me or not. Especially with Mu Yi right behind me with his domineering aura over the poor worker.
"You," I pointed at Mu Yi and a corner in the lobby, "Go stand over there, now."
He smirked and shrugged his shoulder before obediently walking over to the corner I pointed to. Oof, that heart-stealing smile of his did not feel right.
"Let me ask you again," I propped myself up to look more domineering. "Is there really only one room in this entire hotel? One."
"Yes," he replied back, not bothering to check if magically any other room may have become available.
"Hey, tell me," I leaned over to whisper in a low voice so only he can hear me. "Is he threatening you?"
He as in Mu Yi, who was at the corner observing like an abandoned puppy.
"Miss, I a.s.sure you I am not being threatened," his reply back was loud enough to reach Mu Yi"s ears. He wanted to make sure Mu Yi heard his responses back to his woman.
Although everything he was telling her was straight up a lie. A lie Mu Yi made him say if Anong was to ask him any questions about having one room. He must at all cost convince her there was only one room left in this entire five-star hotel.
****
"If that lady over there asks any questions, convince her there is only one room left." Mu Yi voice was normal, but it came out as a threat.
"What? But sir there is plenty of empty room left?"
"I won"t repeat myself," Mu Yi handed him a check secretly over the counter.
When the receptionist saw the amount that was written on the check, his eyes lit up with happiness. I"m sorry pretty lady, this is a check I cannot reject. Plus I"m giving you a golden opportunity that other women could only wish upon. "I understand, sir. Please forgive my rudeness."
****
"And I a.s.sure you, there is only one room." The receptionist gave her an apologetic look, trying to make the entire performance more convincing.
I swear upon my name, Mu Yi did something! I turned my head to glare at Mu Yi who gave me the I didn"t do anything look. I turned back around and stormed away.
