The Kings

Chapter 7

"What was that all about?" Feng Rong asked excitedly, seeing Mu Yi walking into the room they had booked.

"Yeah! Who was she? The woman who jumped into the elevator?" Ye Xiang exclaimed, getting all ready for some juicy gossip. He had been friends with Mu Yi for more than ten years, and he has never seen him run like that before. "She scared the s.h.i.t out of me!"

Mu Yi didn"t bother to answer any of their questions. He sat down on the couch and twirled the peach blossom hairpin in his fingers. Then Mu Yi touched the peach blossom hairpin delicately afraid it"ll break or bend.

"Is that hers?" Ye Xiang asked, moving closer to Mu Yi for a closer look.

Mu Yi put the hairpin back into his pocket before Ye Xiang had a chance for a better inspection. He was acting as if Ye Xiang would see her face through the jeweled hairpin.

"Possessive." Ye Xiang pouted, retreating back to where he was sitting.

Feng Rong sat there quietly filled with curiosity who the woman was. He had never seen Mu Yi chased after anyone and especially a woman. When Mu Yi was gazing at the peach blossom hairpin earlier, it was filled with tenderness even though it was briefly. He is Mu Yi"s first and longest time friend, but he had never seen that side of Mu Yi before.

Mu Yi was a player, no doubt about it, and he changed his woman like he changes clothes. Not like I, Feng Rong am any better. However, around seven years ago Mu Yi had changed. Never touching a woman intimately again such as being intimate in bed. He will occasionally have a woman with him to accompany him to parties, but it"ll never be on the same level of what he used to do back then.

Feng Rong always wonders what happened seven years ago that could have changed him. It was a topic that he knew was forbidden to be brought up. Why? He tried it first hand, and it didn"t turn out really well for him or anyone who asked. Also, he had a gut feeling that the peach blossom woman had something to do with what happened seven years ago.

It has been a few days since the incident at the reunion party. I was able to pa.s.s my days peacefully like I had wanted to begin with. But it was "the calm before the storm." I sat outside my balcony sipping my french roast coffee planning my next move in a notebook. It wasn"t until my thoughts were interrupted with a phone call.

"I sent you the address." The person on the other line quickly got to the main point.

I replied back, "Mmm. Thank you."

It wasn"t long before another phone call came through. This phone call made me relucent to pick up. Still, I ended up picking up the phone call or else I"ll never hear the end of it.

"What do you want?"

"Is that the way to speak to your best friend! Anyway, have you seen where the location for the job will be at?" The person"s voice held a tint of excitement in the last sentence.

"Not yet..." I became somewhat suspicious based on the tone the person was using mentioning the location.

"Okay, fine. But I will be back into the country within the next few days!"

"Yay?" I sarcastically replied back, although I was secretly feeling extremely excited that my best friend was returning.

"Y-you… Forget it. Come pick me up when I land," The person from the other line fake whined.

"No." I flat out rejected the person right after taking another sip of my coffee.

"I won"t accept that. I already called to inform you. Bye!" The person quickly hung up the phone call after getting in the last sentence.

Oh well. I set my new smartphone off to the side and continued to scribble in my notebook. Chen Jian did end up break her phone when it had dropped on that hard floor. It would have been a miracle if my smartphone had survived such a harsh throw.

"Miss, is there anything I can do for you?" Amelia asked, coming to the side of the balcony door.

"No, today I am setting off to my new job." I gave Amelia a mysterious smile.

Closing my notebook, I got up from my chair and headed back to my room. I changed into a pair of dark skinny jeans and a plain white t-shirt. I attempted to change my appearance to look dull. But it still came back as pure and casual, so I quickly tossed the idea out the door. Hopefully, no one will really take notice of me.

Grabbing my phone off my bed, I opened the text message sent to me where my job location was at. Instantly, I threw my phone away when I saw the address texted to me. What kind of s.h.i.t luck is this! I cursed on the inside.

I tried calling my best friend back demanding an explanation, but I only got the voicemail.

"Well play!" I grabbed my papers preparing to head out of my house. "Just wait until you get back!"
