Roden and Jessy toured the entire cave, the area is not that super large but large enough to accommodate more than 500 vampires. She likened their situation to a sardines being crammed in one can. There were wooden bunk beds and single ones scattered throughout the entire length of the cave. For the vampires who are in hiding, every day is a game of survival, comfort is not the basic necessity but the food supply is."Take me to the place where you kept your blood supply," Jessy said to Roden.
"Follow me, Crossbred," he replied.
"Please stop calling me Crossbred, I do have a name, call me Jessy. Since you save me from your brother I will allow you to call me by my name," Jessy spoke.
Roden nods his head and they proceed to the humans living quarters.
The moment Jessy laid eyes on the wooden rooms with walls made of an a.s.sortment of discarded cardboard and other stuff...she knows that Roden was a much better keeper when it comes to handling their human captives compared to the filthy cages where Jagger previously housed their captives inside the cave.
Surprisingly, there was no foul odor in the entire area where the humans were being kept, looks clean and well organized.
"Can I open the rooms?" Jessy asked permission.
"Sure!" Roden knocked first and then pushed open the door.
Everyone in the room looked at the visitors, their stare was vacant devoid of hope, then they turned their gaze back to each other and ignored the newcomers.
Jessy saw the hopelessness and despair on the faces of the women. The occupants in this room are just living their lives every day like a caged bird, they are breathing yet already feeling dead inside.
The pitiful conditions of these abducted humans who"s lives were altered dramatically because the vampires need to survive and keep living is depressing. For once she was asking why vampires need to drink blood? It"s kind of silly when you are trying to questions the laws of nature when it"s normal that animals need to feed on the gra.s.s to survive...when people need to feed on plants and animals to nourish their bodies... and vampires needs to feed in human blood to continue living.
Everybody needs something or someone to survive. That is how the cycle of life on earth operates.
As for her very own existence...was her being a unique crossbred is a reason or a design so that vampires dependency on human blood can now be finally put to an end? Is this another law of nature?
Was she being conceived to convert the surviving vampires into humans? So that the blood-sucking monster that humans hated so much will no longer flourish on earth. If this is the order of nature, well...she can only go with the flow and not opposed it.
Jessy dared not speak a word or try to even comfort the women even if she wanted to. To prevent herself from sympathizing with them she got out of the room and closed the door behind her.
She glanced at Roden who looked the other way.
Blaming Roden is useless, he only did the things that are needed to be done to save his family and his clan. People and even vampires can sometimes do things against their will if they are pushed to the edge and nowhere to turn to.
It"s either perished, die or survive and suffers the consequences later.
"These humans, where they got their foods?" Jessy inquired.
"I sent my men every night to hunt for wild animals and catch fishes in the sea nearby. They also scout for bananas and other wild fruit to feed the humans. We stocked the fish in a clay jar and rubs salt on them to preserve them for several days. We had a little garden of vegetables grown at the back of this mountain. Although our situation is difficult we tried our best to feed our human captives decent meals every day," Roden elaborated.
Jessy sighed. These vampires in this cave are barely surviving, the condition of vampires inside the Facility and in the Habitat is a lot way better compared here.
"Where do the humans prepare their foods?" Jessy asked.
"We made a makeshift kitchen in the adjacent area. Women prepared dishes every day there," Roden answered.
They went to the adjacent area and entered the small kitchen. Three women were busy preparing meals for dinner. They were chopping vegetables and preparing the fish and meat for cooking.
One of the women who is holding a knife and chopping a leafy vegetable glared openly at the visitors. Her raw hostility hit Jessy"s nerve, she ignored her. Jessy was perusing the clay jar in front of her and open the lid wanting to take a look inside to see the fish that was being stocked there.
After a while, Jessy had enough of the tour in the kitchen.
"I want to tour the other areas of this cave," she said.
"Okay, follow me, Jess," Roden replied.
Roden sauntered towards the door followed by Jessy.
She pa.s.sed by on the woman who"s open hostility towards them are leaping from her eyes.
All of a sudden holding the knife in her right hand, with her shaking fingers, she stabbed Jessy on the back two times.
The other women in the room shrieked in horror...
Roden turned around to see what the commotion was all about. He comes eye to eye with the stunned Jessy.
The woman who is holding the knife was surprised that the knife she used to stab the visitor didn"t penetrate the skin, but she indeed saw a cut on the woman"s clothes due to the blade, but no blood was pouring out from the cut, therefore, no wound has been made.
"You die!...die!...die!" furious, the woman"s eyes were blazing with hatred and she attempted to stab Jessy two more times but each time was a complete failure because the knife seems to be bouncing from the skin.
Roden intervened and s.n.a.t.c.hed the knife from the berserk woman.
The woman"s eyes widen in horror when the person she wants to kill finally turns around and faced her, she expected the woman to get angry at her because of her attempt to kill her but she saw no emotion on her face. She was expecting herself to be punished by death because of her murderous actions.
"Guards, take this woman to the cell, she needs to contemplate on her action today," Roden looked at the woman calmly, then the guards on duty took the hysterical woman away from the kitchen.
The guards seized the hysterical woman almost dragging her out of the kitchen, while the remaining women resumed their cooking as if nothing happens.
Roden looked at Jessy worriedly. "Are you okay?" he asked.
Jessy nodded her head. "I"m okay, I covered my whole boy with a protective shield and no weapons or objects can penetrate my skin," she explained.
"I"ve been stabbed by these ladies a few times in the past thankfully I am protected by my magic spell, they can not harm me, I"m sorry about the incident today, it"s all my fault I didn"t inform you about their crazy habits," Roden explained. "I thought they will not do it again since I was expecting that they already resigned to their fate," he released a deep sigh of weariness.
"What kind of punishment you are going to inflict on her?" Jessy asked curiously.
"We just put them in a solitary room for five days to contemplate their actions, we don"t do heavy punishment because they are important to our existence, our precious blood source," Roden answered.
