The Last Embrace

Chapter 418

Fifteen minutes later, the fried chicken, gravy, rice, apple pie, and the soda magically vanished from the Styrofoam and Jagger"s satisfied grin and burping says it all.

"That was a very yummy dinner!" he gushes.

"I"m glad you are already full. Now come with me, bring your bundle," Jessy pointed at the shopping bag beside him.

Jagger was frowning. "Where are we going?"

"Don"t ask, just follow me," she ordered.

Jagger picked up his bundle of joy, the clothes that she brought for him.

They sauntered into the busy street, walked a few meters away and finally arrived at the Budget Wise Motel advertising a $100 / 24-hour accommodation.

Jessy entered the motel entrance and went to the receptionist and booked a one week stay on the motel under Alexander Moore"s name. The receptionist handed Jessy the key expecting that they were a couple checking in.

Jagger finally understands why Jessy brought him here so that he can have a decent place to stay. He was deeply touched by her kindness and never-ending generosity. While they were climbing the stairs towards the second floor, a tear fell from Jagger"s left eye, he doesn"t understand why he feels so emotional right now.

Jessy inserted the key into the doork.n.o.b and pushed the door open. They went inside the room, she closed the door behind her.

Jagger placed the bundle on the floor.

"So, what do you think of this place?" she asked him. She picked up the remote control and pressed the power on and lowered the volume of the television.

"Nice place and looks clean, better than sleeping in the sidewalk," he commented. "Thank you so much, Jess for thinking of my well being. I can"t thank you enough!"

She just shrugged her shoulders.

Jagger checked the bathroom, it"s clean and he"s liking it. He will have a shower later. He turned around and looked at the woman he adored with eyes shimmering of love and adoration. He can"t help himself. With a big stride, he was already in front of her and enveloped her in a tight embrace, so tight that Jessy was stunned for a moment her eyes widened, then Jagger planted a quick kiss on her forehead. Then he let go of her instantly and sat on the edge of the bed with a heaving chest. He was having a hard time controlling his emotion, then he broke down in front of her.

Jagger was crying like a lost child.

Jessy looked at his pathetic form, she raised her brows. "W-why are you crying?"

"Because you showed me kindness and generosity over and over again that I felt so guilty and shameful of my past actions," he said between tears.

Jessy sighed. "I"m leaving now. I just want you to promise me one thing..."

"What is it?" he raised his head to hers.

"Do not do something stupid in this city, okay?" she requested. She knows that he is powerful and he can do anything in this city.

Then slowly, it dawned on Jagger what she meant. She was helping him because she was afraid that he will do bad things just to survive in the city, still, despite the truth, he was forever indebted to her and grateful for all the things she did for him. "I promise, I won"t do bad things against the people in this city," he made an oath to her.

"Good," she went to his side and placed some wads of thousand dollar bills on his hands. "Here"s some money so that you can buy your foods and other necessities."

Jagger accepted the money with trembling hands together with his wounded pride and ego. "Don"t worry I will be a good man. I will try to find work here in the city so that I don"t have to depend on you all the time," he said.

"You do that. I will be dropping by anytime this week to check on you," Jessy said with a note of relief in her voice. "And don"t forget your promise to me," she reminded him.

"I will," Jagger nodded his head. "Thank you so much for this money."

"No problem," Jessy replied. "I"m leaving now..."

Jagger was looking at the money in his hands and when he looked at her, she was already gone. He counted the money, it"s twenty thousand dollar total!

d.a.m.n!

She is already kindhearted and generous but when it comes to him she goes the extra mile to impress him even more. Then how can he ever learn to forget her? She becomes a shadow lurking in his heart and mind.

He was simply blown away by the sheer magnitude of her kindness. So much kindness and generosity that he became a fool sometimes thinking that she has some romantic feelings for him even though in reality she doesn"t. Jessy is one of a kind woman and maybe he will never find a woman as good and wonderful as her in his lifetime.

Again, he stared at the wad of bills in his hands, which are

a good amount of cash sufficient enough to last for a few days until he can find a proper job in the city to sustain his living expenses.

Beginning tomorrow he will start touring the city to find any work that will suit his capabilities. Then he remembered that he didn"t even have the proper education on his name and no one would hire an illiterate like him.

He was disheartened in the succeeding minutes and the thought that he was illiterate bothered him a lot. Who will hire someone like him who can not even read and write properly?

This poses a bigger problem for him.

Tomorrow he will deal with so pretty and so kind. He discarded his clothes and went naked to the bathroom to take a shower.

Fifteen minutes later, he exited the bathroom feeling fresh and clean. He changed into clean clothes and plopped himself down on the bed holding the remote, he pressed all b.u.t.tons and finally after several repeated pressing he was able to identify which is the power on b.u.t.ton, volume control, and channel scan. He scanned several channels finding some good TV show at last, while waiting for sleepiness to take over his senses, he settled with a sports show currently airing a wrestling tournament which he finds amusing to watch.

It"s already midnight when Jagger finally falls asleep after turning off the TV.

His life in the city has just begun.
