Nick squinted his eyes when the morning sun rays fell on his face, he woke up not so long ago and was still sensitive to bright light.
Opposite the hotel entrance there were two parked white SUVs, next to one of which was a man.
Black gla.s.ses hid his eyes, he was dressed in the same black trousers and a light T-shirt. The man lit a cigarette and brought it to his lips, a gray cloud of smoke dissolved in the air.
Marcus.
Nick did not know what irritated him more - either the relaxed look of this man as if he did not care about anything around, or the young man"s own reaction. He did not like that emotions prevailed every time he saw Marcus and Nick knew that this did not play to his advantage, but he could not cope with them either.
His hatred for this man was too deep.
Marcus noticed Elena at the exit of the hotel, took a couple more puffs and threw the cigarette to the ground, stubbing it out with his shoe. "I see, everyone"s here. I suggest we get going," he waved to Rick, so he got behind the wheel of one of the cars.
David threw the keys to the second car to Daniel, "You will drive."
"Me?! Why not Armand? How will I enjoy the view from the window if I have to keep an eye on the road?" The idea of being a driver did not appeal to Daniel, they did not know exactly where they would go, so they had to follow Marcus"s car.
This sly fox decided to keep the intrigue to the last.
Armand meanwhile sat on the pa.s.senger seat and leaned on his elbow, leaning out the window, with a melancholy look, "Have some pity for this old man, who suffered from insomnia all night, let me take a nap a bit along the way," the man yawned pointedly, put on the sungla.s.ses and with all his looks he demonstrated that being behind the wheel was not in his plans from the very beginning.
Daniel snorted and slammed the driver"s door with a loud bang. He, of course, had an alternative to go in Marcus"s car as a pa.s.senger, but of the two evils, he chose the lesser and preferred to drive himself than to be in the campaign of those two annoying characters.
He did not get along very well with Rick from their first meeting, as for Marcus... Well, this was not an option.
"Something happened? You are a bit late," David held out his hand to Elena to help her down the stairs. Nick silently followed them.
"We looked into Corey"s room, I had to give something to Sean."
"What?"
"A small but important thing to keep," Elena smiled mysteriously. Since she did not know where they were going and what would happen, just in case, she decided to leave her pendant to Sean.
This pendant clearly attracted the attention of Marcus, and if suddenly he really needed it, the man would not interfere with her safe return.
"I see," David turned his gaze to Nick, who did not leave Elena a step, as if he were a mother sending her young son on a long voyage for an unknown period.
The man shook his head and sighed, even if this guy aroused his suspicion several times, David could not bring himself to doubt him, especially when Nick was looking at Elena as a puppy forgotten in the rain.
He patted Nick on the shoulder, causing the young man to flinch in surprise, "Ok, please, get away from my wife, otherwise, there will soon be a hole on her back. Mommy will be back soon, and I"ll buy you a chocolate bar, so don"t be sad, be a good boy and wait for us here," David ruffled Nick"s hair, grinned and got into the car after Elena.
"Ha? I don"t need any chocolate from you!" Nick grunted in response so that David would hear his displeased remark.
This elder brother, along with Daniel, has long taken the habit of teasing Nick as a small child due to the fact that Elena and Corey spoiled the young man in every possible way. Although Nick was well aware that they hid their jealousy behind these jokes, this did not stop him from adding oil to the fire, periodically making eyes at one woman or another.
The fact that he will have the opportunity to have a walk with Elena in the evening, albeit a little, but compensated for his dissatisfaction with the fact that he was left at the hotel.
An unpleasant chill ran through Nick"s body when he felt someone else"s eyes on him. The young man looked at the car in front. The man sitting next to the driver adjusted his gla.s.ses, waved his hand, and the car started.
Nick clenched his fists as he watched the car with the look full of hatred. The young man turned around and went inside the hotel.
He had a good look at Marcus"s grin when the man was watching his reaction before they left. And that grin did not promise anything good.
