"Elena, wait! Wait for me!" David was catching up with the girl as she was walking quickly toward the place where she was supposed to have a meeting.

"I am a grown up already and don"t need anybody to babysit me." Elena was kept on going forward without stop.

David caught up with her and took her hand, and then he raised her hand to his lips and kissed it. "Okay, okay, I was just kidding. You"re not a kid. If that were the case, I"d have serious problems," the young man smiled slyly and winked at the girl. "But listen, I just don"t want my girlfriend to meet alone with some kind of suspicious man."

"David, this suspicious man is an investigator on the case of Professor Richards. And he asked to meet with him in private, as this conversation does not imply the presence of unwanted ears," Elena replied strictly.

David defiantly pursed his mouth, as if offended by her words, "That means that you think that I am unwanted ears as well?"

The girl condescendingly looked at the young man, "He is not being serious about all this, isn"t he?" Elena sighed and kissed David on the cheek. "No, you are just very necessary ears, otherwise I would not invite you to go with me."

They entered a small cozy cafe, where Detective Morgan was already waiting for them at a table in the corner.

"Good afternoon, Detective Morgan. This is David Anderson, I told you about him," Elena greeted the man and presented her companion to him.

"h.e.l.lo, Mr. Anderson. My name is Charles Morgan, as you already know; I am an investigator for the case in which Miss Lee is a witness," the man greeted and shook David"s hand.

"Pleased to meet you. You can just call me David," the young man replied to him and immediately decided to ask the question which he had in mind. "Mr. Morgan, please tell me why did you call Elena to meet in such a place instead of the police station?"

The detective looked around and began to speak half a tone quieter. "See, David, the matter is that before I called Miss Lee yesterday asking for a personal meeting, I received a request from my supervisor to close the professor"s case due to the absence of components of a crime."

"What? Are you trying to say that the criminal case is now closed? But how is this possible?" Elena was shocked by the news.

"After opening and conducting all verifications, no suspicious substances were found in the victim"s body. The examination concluded that Mr. Richards died of a heart attack. There are no signs of violent death."

"But ... but, after all, he was given some kind of injection, right? Should there have been a trace of a syringe anyway?"

"Miss Lee, I understand your confusion," continued Detective Morgan, "But a small dot on the victim"s body is not proof. The chemical blood test did not confirm third-party intervention."

"What about fingerprints? Did you check my phone? He took it in his hands, and the time of the professor"s death also had to coincide with the time of the call from Corey. And what about the office door? I saw how he touched it with my own eyes!"

"No, there was nothing on the phone. No fingerprints besides yours, Miss Lee. I am very sorry." The detective sadly looked at the girl, because during the investigation he was very imbued with her situation and sincerely wanted to find out the whole truth in this matter.

"Miss Lee, please tell me, have you noticed any suspicious personalities around you lately?" Detective Morgan asked with the utmost seriousness.

"No, I didn"t notice anything special," Elena replied.

"Detective, do you have any suspicions that Elena might be in danger?" David asked the man since the detective question which he posed earlier seemed rather dubious.

"No, Mr. Anderson, I"m sorry, David. I"m not saying that Miss Lee is in any danger, I have no information on this. But let"s not forget that she is a witness in a criminal case. Although we did not find evidence of her words that it was a murder, I do not think that she deliberately made this whole thing up."

"Mr. Morgan, all of this is an honest truth! I would not lie about such things in my life!" Elena was extremely annoyed that her words might not be taken seriously.

"Miss Lee, I believe you. And I really wanted to study this case in more detail, but ... You see, the authorities ordered to close it on the same day as we received the results of the examination. I have no evidence of this, but I feel that someone from the front office contributed to this decision. Someone who is not interested in this investigation."

"Do you think this is possible?" David asked the investigator.

"Unfortunately, I have a feeling that everything is exactly like this," Charles answered. "Therefore, Miss Lee, I wanted to meet with you and warn you to be more cautious. Since if what you told is true, and the killer has powerful patrons, they may attempt to intimidate you somehow. Although, I hope that this does not happen. After all, there is no evidence, and the case has already been submitted to the archive. In any case, take care of yourself."

Detective Morgan said goodbye to Elena and David and left the cafe. The couple was left alone, and each a.n.a.lyzed their thoughts, after hearing such information.

After a short pause, David looked at the girl and asked, "What are you thinking about? Are you feeling well?"

"Yes, thank you, everything is all right. Don"t worry," Elena replied calmly and smiled slightly.

"Hmm, as you say. What are your plans next? Are you meeting with Corey?"

"No, she and Rick have now gone for a walk to some park, I won"t bother her. Let them enjoy themselves," Elena replied to him.

"Oh, how about we go for a walk then and have a chance to enjoy ourselves too? What do you say?" David bent over to Elena and playfully squinted his eyes.

"Mr. Anderson, do you really invite me for a date? Did I understand you correctly?" Elena touched the straw with her lips and began to slowly drink the juice, without taking her eyes off David. The man grinned, noticing the seductive movements of her lips.

"Good. I accept your invitation. I just wanted to discuss what your company has to do with my father," Elena continued, instantly changing her mood from being playful to being serious.

"Hey, honey, I invite you on a date, and you want to talk to me about business? Jeez, there isn"t any romance in you," David stated with sadness.

"Well, excuse me for being who I really am," Elena answered triumphantly and sent him an air kiss through the table. The man smiled, and in response leaned toward her and gently kissed her lips. "So, let"s go?"

Elena nodded approvingly, finished her juice, and they left the cafe together.
