[OASNG] Chapter 96: Proof
[July 22, 2019]
... "I believe Xiao Wu. Her words are the truth." Jier disregarded the pitiful tear stained face of the maid. It failed to engender any feelings of protectiveness or sympathy from him.
Jier didn"t doubt Feng Wu. Even if there was no proof, he still believed in her completely.
"Young masters and young mistresses, how can you ruin my reputation when you don"t have a single witness. I"m grateful for the madam"s kindness. How could I ever hurt her beloved pet?!"
"I don"t have proof, but the puppy can tell who hurt it." Feng Wu had always cherished small animals. She didn"t like Nava because the maid had purposefully hurt the puppy.
"The puppy can"t talk! How can it prove anything?" Nava asked, incredulous at Feng Wu"s words. This idiot girl. What kind of joke was this? Let a dog testify? Luckily she hadn"t admitted to anything.
Nava relaxed. She knew she would be find as long as she had the madam"s support, so of course she would never admit to any wrongdoing. She would stick to her story, afterall these adventurers didn"t have the power to forcefully take her away.
"Miss Feng Wu, Nava is right. My puppy can"t talk. How can it provide proof?" The madam shook her head laughing at the idea.
"Little puppy, if she"s the one that hurt you then bark twice. If not bark then once." Feng Wu pointed at Nava, who was still lying on the ground where she collapsed.
The puppy looked at Nava with fear in its eyes. Even if it hadn"t barked, the answer was obvious. It had originally been afraid and scared of the person who had hurt and tossed it out. But because Feng Wu was there, it was brave enough to bark twice at Nava.
It had never met the girl that was holding it, but it trusted her. She smelled so nice, she had to be a good person. The puppy was a simple animal with basic instincts. It could tell when something or someone was good or bad.
"Nava! What do you have to say for yourself?!" The widow wouldn"t believe strangers, but she would believe her beloved pet. She had seen the fear in its eyes when it looked at Nava, so upon hearing its bark she was convinced.
Nava could see how things were going. She sat up on the ground and roared out at Feng Wu. "How can this be?! Why are you so meddlesome! Why did you have to bring that stinking dog back?!" She hated Feng Wu!
"Nava! I can"t believe you! You know how much I love my baby. If you were unhappy about something you should have come to me. I don"t understand why you would hurt my baby!" The widow was really angry. She never thought the maid she treated so well would do something like this.
"Why?! You ask me why!? Madam you"re so rich. You could have helped me and my family more. Instead you spoil this stupid dog. Isn"t it your own fault for loving this dog so much? So yes, I took the dog and purposely broke its leg. I didn"t want it to make its way back. I was hoping it would starve to death outside. Look! Even now. How can you still love that stupid dog so much?"
Instead of pleading for mercy, Nava went on the attack and criticized the widow.
"Not help you?! When your father"s business went under, when your family faced that huge debt, who helped you with it all?! Who helped pay your mother"s medical bill when she fell ill?! Who helped your family find a convenient place to live?! When your father and older brother needed a job, who helped them find one?! I did all these things for you and your family!"
"And yet you say I have not done enough for you?! Do I need to give you all my belongings?!" The widow laughed. She wasn"t sure if she was laughing in wonder at her maid"s greed and ingrat.i.tude or if she was laughing at herself for her blindness. She had mistaken a wolf for a rabbit.
The group realized how good the widow had been to the maid after hearing everything. Nava had ruthlessly taken advantage of her.
"Ha! If you wanted to help me, why didn"t you just give me money?! Just give my family of four the money we needed to pay off all our debts?! You say you helped me, but you"re just a hypocrite! You just want to look like you"re kind and generous! A hypocrite like you deserves a s.h.i.tty dog as companion!"
Nava"s words became more and more vicious as she spoke. The more she spoke the more validated she felt too. What kindness? The b.i.t.c.h just wanted to make herself look good. No wonder the she didn"t have a man.
"So this is what you think of me! You think I had ulterior motives for giving you this job? For doing all the things I"ve done for your family?! Fine! Fine! You should have found another job then! But you didn"t! Did you! Instead you stayed under my roof and took advantage of all the things here. You think I"m using you to raise my own reputation?! You are the one who exploited me!"
The widow was a kind woman but she was no bleeding heart. It hurt her greatly to be called a hypocrite after all the emotions, energy, and time she spent to help Nava. The girl was clearly just biting the hand that fed her. Any goodwill the widow had for the girl vanished.
Nava"s face twisted in rage at the widow"s words. She hated the widow with a vengeance. The only reason she accepted her charity was because her family was so poor.
"And what about your family?! They"re just like you aren"t they? Well this lady can"t afford such vicious people around. Since it"s clear we don"t get along there"s no reason for any more talk. Butler, take this ungrateful maid away!"
