The Reluctant Bride Book II

Chapter Forty-Five

The door opened.

Zheng Jia Ju looked at the door and saw a bruised Cheng Yi standing at the door with his hands tied behind his back. Behind him was a group of men in black suits who also had bruised faces.

Zheng Jia Ju sat up on the bed too fast, and felt pain below her stomach.

Gu Jiao Wu saw Zheng Jia Ju winced. He helped her sit up on the bed, and put a pillow behind her back.

Gu Jiao Wu looked at Cheng Yi’s bruised face then he looked at his a.s.sistants’ bruised faces.

‘Who attacked first?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked.

‘Executive Gu, didn’t you say to use any dirty tactic to bring Cheng Yi to the hospital?’ an a.s.sistant asked.

Gu Jiao Wu walked to Cheng Yi and untied Cheng Yi’s hands.

‘Ganging up on a man isn’t manly,’ Cheng Yi said.

‘I’m sorry,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. He pointed at Zheng Jia Ju. ‘She called your name while giving birth to your son. I called your phone, but you didn’t answer. I wanted you to come see her and your son.’

‘She giving birth has nothing to do with me,’ Cheng Yi said.

Gu Jiao Wu was shocked by Cheng Yi’s heartless words. Not only did Cheng Yi forget and didn’t love Zheng Jia Ju, Cheng Yi’s cold att.i.tude toward Zheng Jia Ju was hurting Zheng Jia Ju more.

‘Cheng Yi, are you a man?’ Gu Jiao Wu asked. ‘She only wants you to be with her while she gives birth to your son. Do you need to be this cold blooded?’

Cheng Yi didn’t forget how Gu Jiao Wu helped Zheng Jia Ju sit up on the bed.

‘You must be joking,’ Cheng Yi said. ‘Why do I need to watch your woman give birth to your son?’

‘The baby boy is your son!’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

‘Executive Gu…’ Zheng Jia Ju called weakly.

If Zheng Jia Ju’s wasn’t in pain, she would cry. But crying in front of the indifferent Cheng Yi would hurt her more.

Zheng Jia Ju forced herself to smile.

‘Thank you Executive Gu, you can let him go,’ Zheng Jia Ju said.

‘Zheng Jia Ju…’ Gu Jiao Wu said. He couldn’t stand seeing the cold hearted Cheng Yi and the broken hearted Zheng Jia Ju. He grabbed Cheng Yi’s arm. ‘You, follow me.’

Gu Jiao Wu dragged Cheng Yi to the ICU to see Cheng Yi’s son.

Cheng Yi’s son’s complexion was a healthy pink and sleeping soundly.

Gu Jiao Wu pointed at Cheng Yi’s son. ‘Take a look at your son! Don’t you feel anything?’

Cheng Yi looked at the baby boy’s small face that looked exactly like Zheng Jia Ju’s face. Then he pushed Gu Jiao Wu away from him.

Gu Jiao Wu couldn’t believe Cheng Yi felt nothing toward Cheng Yi’s son. He never forgotten how awe struck and blessed he was the first time he saw Xiao Bao.

Cheng Yi stared at the baby boy for a while. He turned around and walked to the elevators.

‘Cheng Yi!’ Gu Jiao Wu called. ‘Did you take a close look at your son?’

Cheng Yi stood still, but didn’t turn around to face Gu Jiao Wu.

‘Have you said enough?’ Cheng Yi asked. ‘You’re her husband. She gave birth to your son. It has nothing to do with me.’

Gu Jiao Wu watched Cheng Yi leave. He couldn’t believe how cold blooded Cheng Yi was.

Gu Jiao Wu walked back to Zheng Jia Ju’s hospital room. He looked at Zheng Jia Ju’s disappointed face, and felt angrier at Cheng Yi.

‘Go find a good nurse maid for Zheng Jia Ju,’ Gu Jiao Wu instructed an a.s.sistant.

‘Yes Executive Gu,’ the a.s.sistant said.

Gu Jiao Wu’s a.s.sistants left Zheng Jia Ju’s hospital room.

Zheng Jia Ju looked sadly out the window.

‘Thank you Executive Gu,’ Zheng Jia Ju said.

‘You don’t need to thank me,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. Zheng Jia Ju looked out the window, but she couldn’t hide her tears from him. ‘Do you want me to teach him a lesson?’

‘No,’ Zheng Jia Ju said.

Zheng Jia Ju laughed at herself for hurting to see Cheng Yi’s bruised face, he didn’t even remember her.

‘My mum is on her way to take care of me,’ Zheng Jia Ju said. ‘I’m sorry for troubling you.’

‘My a.s.sistant will be here soon with a nurse maid who’ll help you take care of your son,’ Gu Jiao Wu said. ‘If you need anything else, don’t hesitate to tell my a.s.sistant.’

‘I’ll be OK,’ Zheng Jia Ju said.

The way Zheng Jia Ju was forcing herself to smile made Gu Jiao Wu want to give Cheng Yi another beating.

‘Take good care of yourself,’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

‘Um,’ Zheng Jia Ju said.

Gu Jiao Wu walked outside and called an a.s.sistant.

‘I don’t care what you do as long as you stop Cheng Yi leaving this district,’ Gu Jiao Wu said.

Gu Jiao Wu hung up the phone. He looked at the photo of Xiao Bao, and realised how blessed he was. He was there at Xiao Bao’s birth, and knew Xiao Bao was his daughter. Unlike Cheng Yi who couldn’t recognise Cheng Yi’s own son.

Gu Jiao Wu sped to the Qiao Mansion. Seeing Cheng Yi’s apathy toward Cheng Yi’s son, made him miss Xiao Bao and he wanted to see Xiao Bao immediately.

At the Qiao Mansion, Qiao Tan Yuan was playing with Xiao Bao before bed time. Xiao Bao was growing bigger by the day, and slept less. She felt blessed to have Xiao Bao in her life. She believed Xiao Bao knew she had a broken heart so Xiao Bao was a good baby. Xiao Bao would happily play during the day, sleep after being breast fed and at night Xiao Bao would cry a little before going back to sleep.

Qiao Tan Yuan thought she acted like a child before giving birth to Xiao Bao. She watched Xiao Bao sleep, and thought it was the most beautiful period in her life.

Qiao Tan Yuan wasn’t going to let Gu Jiao Wu take Xiao Bao. She was determined to raise Xiao Bao in Denmark where Gu Jiao Wu couldn’t find them.

Qiao Tan Yuan walked back to her bedroom, sat on the sofa and browsed through brochures of houses on the market in Denmark. She had always dreamt of living in Denmark so she learned how to speak Danish long ago.

Downstairs Mrs Qiao nodded at Gu Jiao Wu, she pointed upstairs. Gu Jiao Wu greeted Mrs Qiao, and walked upstairs. He thought about how last time he saw Qiao Tan Yuan naked after a shower, and stood in a daze outside Qiao Tan Yuan’s bedroom.
