Three days came and went. The first-ever cannon was finally a.s.sembled. D"verg and Annixon had to get help from the locals to get the heavy item on a modified piece of wood. It even had a gear system to allow the cannon to aim. The wooden base it stood on was script engraved to produce a high powered wind. So that it acted as a type of hovercraft making the device more maneuverable. They loaded it onto a cart, which was being pulled by two horses.D"verg examined his handiwork. He was proud of it. He had no clue how it worked, but it was definitely something different. An apparent weapon of impressive destruction. Heck, he was even proud of the cast iron b.a.l.l.s that little Karuli made. What was weird was they were filled with some sort of black powder, and he said something about an extremely unstable agent inside that could go off if they weren"t careful with it and it dropped. Heck Annixon was so paranoid that he enclosed the in a lot of cloth and feathers.
D"verg looked at Annixon in all seriousness, "You will need help to fire this beast. I could come along."
"I am sorry, D"verg. The area I am going to will have a nasty little beast that would rather rip your head off than make friends. Besides, I could just ask the aid from one of the Adventurers there."
"Fine, you c.o.c.ksucker. You never did tell me how this thing worked."
"I will show you when I get back. Luckily my destination isn"t that far. A few hours" rode on a horse. I will be back by sundown."
"May the G.o.ds guide you."
Annixon found that weirdly sentimental from the old dwarf when he suddenly shouted out, "And you better come back, you ugly c.o.c.ksucker!"
And he is back.
Back at the lake, the adventures had finally tracked down the beast. A burly dwarf crept in beside her, "La.s.s, that"s a Decay beast. Did that message say anything about that."
"They hinted at it. Guess they didn"t want to team to back out."
"What do you want to do?"
She was wearing a full face adamant.i.te armor, "This will give us an enormous rep boost. I ain"t backing down now."
She stood up and readied her axe, "For Glory!"
The rest got into position. The mages hurled fireb.a.l.l.s at the target trying to distract it long enough for them for the melee fighters to catch up.
The creature was large. Standing a colossal five meters tall (about 16"4 feet). Had a tail that had spikes on it. The tail itself was twice the creature"s body length. It must have weighed at least eight tonnes (about 17600 pounds). Completely white and without fur, but it looked avian by nature with a ma.s.sive beak and three red glowing eyes with no pupil or iris.
The creature whipped its tail in their general direction. Some got thrown back while the lady warrior jumped over the rail, even with her ma.s.sive armor she moved like the wind. The creature bit towards her general direction. She slammed the flat side of her axe against the creature"s beak send herself flying backward. She knew that that thing would have ripped her in half.
One of the adventures was able to reach the creature"s leg and slammed into it with his broadsword. It didn"t even make a dent.
The creature was as impervious as they came. The beast grabbed for the man with its beak. He didn"t have enough time to getaway.

The creature got a hold of his arm and ripped it cleanly off. Blood sprayed everywhere and the man screamed in agony. The elven mage jumped in front of the beast and used a flare, but the magic didn"t work on it. It came crashing down on the onto the poor elven girl.
The broad axe warrior used the weight of her entire body to slam against the beast"s beak making it miss its target.
The creature got enraged and targeted the woman. She readied a barrier and the creature punched right through the barrier and sent her flying through the trees crashing into the ground. Her wind was knocked out but the armor held firmly. She was thankful she saved her money for this armor.
The others tried their best but things were starting to look grim, but the woman refused to give up. She ran towards the beast and saw an opportunity. One of the Paladins intercepted the creature"s beak. He was a strong man who was able to hold his ground.
She jumped and crashed straight down onto the creature"s head. A silly small chip. She had an adamant.i.te axe and all she could do was create a small chip. She now understood the hopelessness of the situation. She just needed to distract the beast so that the rest could escape.
"I"ve got this you guys get the h.e.l.l out of here!"
"We ain"t leaving you!"
"That"s an order! This thing needs heavy artillery! We need catapults!"
Most of them were hesitant to leave. The paladin was the first to speak up, "G.o.d d.a.m.n it, woman! Okay, let"s get the local baron involved. This is above our pay-grade."
They started to run and saw a carriage come into the site.
A man with a beard and long hair was driving it. He was smiling.
The adventures found something peculiar about this man. One female mage spoke up, "You have to leave this area! It"s too dangerous."
Annixon smiled calmly, "You know you guys are a hard bunch to find. I had to use unorthodox methods to find you. Just relax…and have a drink."
He was, of course, referring to his book. He turned the horses away from the beasts. He climbed on the back and started to aim the cannon.
The axe lady was desperately avoiding the beast"s onslaught.
Annixon amplified his whistle with magic. That got the creature"s attention. It turned and faced into Annixon"s direction and charged him down. Annixon could help but smile at the easy provocation. He triggered the cannon and sent a loaded ball grenade towards the creature. The creature opened its mouth to swallow the grenade. It detonated right in his mount. The crisp and deafening crack reverberated through the area. The creature"s head exploded in a gory concoction of meat, blood, and paste. The creature"s body crashed into the ground creating a ditch as far as it slid.
Annixon hopped off the carriage and examined his handy work, "Perfect. I should really compliment D"verg for his handy work. Raging success. Dumba.s.s. Do all creatures think everything is edible? First the Kraken and now…whatever that is."
The Warrior lady walked up to him, "Thank you, I have to ask what in the seven h.e.l.ls was that!?"
"That my dear adventurer is a new age. The cannon."
