Chapter 692: Collective Evolution
Translator: Alsey Editor: Chrissy
The group of people crowded around, breathing rapidly as they did so. Whether it was the black yak, Ouyang Feng, or the great demons of Kunlun, all their expressions were fervent. Their fiery eyes were on the verge of emitting green light.
Various life forms had evolved after the great upheaval. These people were the most well-known beings of the time. Some were originally about to become spiritual demons for they had lived beyond hundreds of years.
For example, the black yak would sometimes let slip about what happened in his lifetime hundreds of years ago. He would speak of the green yak, that unforgettable G.o.ddess-grade beauty from the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau.
The Manchurian Tiger often boasted shamelessly about how he had rampaged through the Siberian and Manchurian regions for hundreds of years yet had not tasted defeat. His continuous streak of victory was tiresome and all he hoped for was a single defeat!
…
The group of great demons were awfully sullen these days for they had been trapped on the island. Their lives were in constant threat, so all they longed for was to evolve and become even stronger.
“Don’t worry. We have to make sure that everyone is in their best possible condition. Have you guys finished cultivating?” asked Chu Feng.
The black yak patted his chest and said, “Relax. After you expelled the strange energy inside my body and with the help of the Sixth Path Reincarnation Pills meant for golden arhat cultivators, my injuries healed in a single day. ”
As per Chu Feng’s observation, these demons were evolving at different stages. Some were still at the carefree realm, some were mid-visualization realm, whereas others were at the later stages of the visualization realm.
As a result, the medicine they needed at this moment differed too.
Chu Feng didn’t have a lot of medicine for the cloudeater realm on him, but it was enough. On the other hand, he had sufficient medicines for the carefree and visualization realm.
“Old Bear, Old Hu, strengthen yourselves to the visualization realm first!”
The medication Chu Feng handed out came in a small jade pot for each person, and its contents weren’t as simple as one or two pills. It contained sufficient pills for them to evolve and ascend to a higher realm.
The old black bear and the yellow fox were the grandfathers of Xiong Kun and Hu Sheng respectively. When they had first met, their grandchildren were always exchanging blows with Chu Feng before they became friends. They had gone from being on opposing ends to submitting to Chu Feng, accompanying him, and finally, addressing him as Younger Granduncle.
When Chu Feng went to Kunlun for the first time ever, he had ventured to the western region and it was there that the Old Black Bear King let his mount send Chu Feng off on the leg of the journey.
“Haha! This is great!” The old demon was exulted.
Aside from them, the Antelope King and his demons, along with Chu Feng’s parents, were also at this realm. As a matter of fact, most of the other great demons on this island were similarly at this realm.
The Antelope King was quite moved—when Chu Feng had gone to Kunlun for the first time ever, he had unleashed a powerful attack on the Purple Gold Woodp.e.c.k.e.r King. Back then, the Antelope King viewed Chu Feng as an enemy, but in the end, he had his two thick horns broken. He only changed his att.i.tude toward Chu Feng later on after fighting shoulder to shoulder through a war of life and death, experiencing all the trials and tribulations together. Now, more than ever, he was going to receive a huge favor from Chu Feng.
Those remaining were at the pre-visualization realm, such as the Old Lama, Mastiff King, the Elder Ape of Greatwood Temple, and so on.
There were also a few at mid-visualization realm, such as the big black yak, Old Grandmaster Wu Qifeng, Manchurian Tiger, and so on.
Without a doubt, many of them could ascend to this realm all thanks to Yellow Ox and Ouyang Toad. The duo had brought a mutant fruits from the depths of Mount Eternal so that the group could transform and hasten their evolution.
As for Yellow Ox and Ouyang Feng, they had been stuck at the later stages of the visuali, ation realm as of late, failing to progress any higher than that.
“A problem has arisen in the depths of the demon race’s holy land. We are presently facing a hurdle that is too difficult for us. A terrifying demon is protecting those mutant trees and fruits. Even those at the transformation and golden body realm would possibly be killed if they entered the region.”
Ouyang Feng was unsatisfied. If it wasn’t for that, they could’ve progress a step further, but now they were barred from doing so.
“Relax. After advancing tremendously this time, we’ll all be at the cloudeater realm. I’ll head inside with you lot later on and try breaking through that final hurdle.”
“It’s a pity you’re not a demon.” Yellow Ox shook his head.
“I’ll use some demon blood to cheat my way in,” said Chu Feng.
Ouyang Feng’s eyes lit up. “Eh? If that’s the case, maybe we can ask for external help in this manner. Calf Boy, consider those suggestions. If not, isn’t this battleground a dead end if even those at the golden body realm would face death when they go in? They’re deliberately making things difficult for us! Sigh, the more I think about it, the more I think it is possible. Don’t we have a broken copper tablet? Even though the inscriptions are illegible, it seems to mention the external protectors of the demon race!”
“We’ll look into it in greater detail later!” A strange expression appeared on Yellow Ox’s face as well.
After that, Chu Feng became serious again and called attention to the big black yak, Old Lama, Mastiff King, Wu Qifeng, and the rest. Even though they had sufficient mutant fruits, they had to begin gaining comprehension on their own to evolve into the carefree and visualization realm. They had to write picture scrolls that belonged to them and visualise something of their own.
Chu Feng was exceptionally solemn as he said, “For the carefree realm, you need to use your vitality as paper and your spiritual power as paint. The influence of the mutant fruit spans far, so you must not be rash. On the other hand, the visualization realm is much more complex. You can’t be hasty or negligent in breaking through to the next realm just so you can quickly evolve.”
He was afraid these demons would behave impetuously and establish a weak foundation and, as a result, limit their combat abilities.
That was because it was actually extremely difficult to truly write one’s own picture scroll. The visualization realm involved so much more. What Chu Feng visualized encompa.s.sed all life, time, human realm, reincarnation and so forth.
In the outer realms, the greater the evolutionary sect, the harsher the demands required of their disciples. Some sects even made their disciples meditate for a few years to reach enlightenment when they reached an important realm.
“Relax. We’ve already solved this problem!” The Manchurian Tiger mischievously chuckled. The group of demons looked toward Yellow Ox and Ouyang Feng, feeling incomparably grateful to the both of them.
At present, this group of great demons were positioned inside the monastery. They hadn’t really entered the demon race’s holy land to charge through the mortal trials. The ones who had dared to do so were Ouyang Toad and Yellow Ox. Since it was too dangerous, those of the demon race who weren’t exceptionally gifted couldn’t go in—otherwise, they would be exterminated without a doubt.
They were taught a b.l.o.o.d.y lesson in the past!
The group that had came the earliest, apart from Yellow Ox, Ouyang Feng, Big Old Black, Manchurian Tiger, and Old Donkey, also included a Golden Condor. It was Chu Feng’s mount when he surrendered at Mount Lu.
In the end, the Golden Condor was eager to charge through the demon race’s holy land with Yellow Ox and Ouyang Feng but faced a tragic death after clearing a few areas.
This was also the reason why the big black yak, Manchurian Tiger, and the Old Donkey wouldn’t enter even if they were beaten to death. The environment there was far too cruel.
There was no need to speak of the great beasts of Kunlun that came afterward. They lingered outside the mountain gates, cultivating with the various secret techniques of the demon race that Yellow Ox and Ouyang Feng brought out from the holy lands.
“Rest a.s.sured, the carefree and visualization realm isn’t going to be a problem.” Ouyang Feng’s eyes had recovered, and he looked at the others sideways once more.
He and Yellow Ox had retrieved vast numbers of picture scrolls for the carefree realm and divine diagrams for the visualization realm from the depths Mount Eternal—the forbidden land that cultivated demonic sages—so that everyone could refer to them.
The records contained within the haul were extremely detailed and thorough. There were various methods, specific steps, notes detailing their experience, and personal notes that weren’t handed down from ancient times. It was too precious!
This was far easier than going through the motions themselves and initiating the process from scratch!
However, this also meant that they lacked the process of developing and going through arduous contemplation. In the end, they were using this opportunity to take a shortcut.
Yellow Ox and Ouyang Feng weren’t included amongst them. They truly achieved enlightenment on their own, writing their own picture scroll through innovative means and visualizing something that belonged to themselves. They then verified their end products with the notes left behind by their predecessors.
Old Donkey looked at Chu Feng and rebuked, “Brother, why are you frowning? Do you really want us to be as abnormal as you are? We’re not planning on contending with those outstanding talents ranked ahead in the universe. We only wish to run behind you, be your cheerleaders and help you beat those grandchildren to death! Hee-haw, hee-haw, we’ll beat them to death!”
Chu Feng was relieved. It was impossible for everyone to pursue perfection on the road to evolution. That wasn’t realistic. Everyone’s personal fighting power was different.
For example, he had the black and white millstone in his body; Yellow Ox had the mysterious mortar and pestle; and Ouyang Feng also obtained a small bronze roller in the demon race forbidden zone in Mount Eternal. These things could help them cultivate their bloodline, purify the mutant fruits they had absorbed, and refine the various energies of heaven and earth.
The others didn’t possess these items because they were far too precious. Those who weren’t part of the strongest orthodoxy in the universe couldn’t possess such items. Even in those orthodoxies, the treasures were only limited to direct descendants.
Chu Feng laughed and said, “Alright. Since we’ve already resolved the matter regarding the carefree and visualization realms, that’s equivalent to moving a large rock blocking our path. Everyone, quickly evolve. After all, we have the Deity Elixir. You don’t have to worry about there being problems with continuously evolving in such a short period of time.”
The Deity Elixir was a rare and valuable object, and its usefulness spanned far and wide.
Naturally, it couldn’t be used without moderation, either. Even the Deity Clan wouldn’t carelessly use it as well. For a clan as strong as them, they were incomparably strict towards their disciples. Hence, they placed particular emphasis on their awareness and required that they experiment about on their own.
Just like what Old Donkey said, it wasn’t the case that everyone needed to forge ahead of the pack and evolve to the peak of their existence so that they could face a power struggle at the top, but rather, they were content with their present accomplishments.
“As for those about to breakthrough to the cloudeater realm, don’t hurry. I’ll search for a way to obtain a large pile of relics for everyone!” Chu Feng continued.
He let everyone ascend first, but at the very end, he had to hold back. Yellow Ox and Ouyang Feng, both who had the highest realms of cultivation, had to suppress themselves first after eating the mutant fruit and couldn’t rush ahead to breakthrough to the cloudeater realm. Chu Feng wanted to head somewhere to see if he could obtain an Immortal Cloud and Deity Mist.
He had personally experienced this before. He had suppressed himself for a few months and only broke through when he was in the Universe Black Prison located on that death star. When he ascended, the first wisp of multicolored light and mist he devoured was an exceptionally valuable object that could raise his combat abilities, bringing the greatest benefits to his future evolution.
Fortunately, he managed to s.n.a.t.c.h the Xilin Clan’s fortunes.
Vibrant colors set the island abright today. Tens of thousands of multicolored beams sprang forth and propitious vapours gushed out. Everyone was in a frenzy to evolve because they had sufficient medicine and the personal notes of enlightenment from the predecessors of the demon race. The transformation went off without a hitch!
From the looks of things, the forelimbs that the Mastiff King lacked were growing back through his evolution, enlarging his physique in a dazzling manner.
It could also be seen that the black yak’s broken horns were growing back. They were thick and st.u.r.dy as though they could pierce through the heaven and earth. Strange patterns lined the bulk of his horns, making their appearance tyrannical and wild.
Old Grandmaster Wu Qifeng grew younger, his white hair fading away. A rosy tint even ordained his exquisite face. He didn’t look like an old man who was 100 years old; he was clearly a prime man in his thirties.
Old Lama was glowing. He no longer looked like a Buddhist disciple who was over 100 years old. He was br.i.m.m.i.n.g with vitality and his worn out body was mending itself. He appeared solemn with golden light surrounding him, giving off a feeling as though he were the reincarnation of a Bodhisattva. He too appeared quite young with golden light flowing out of him.
A single silver horn grew on top of Black Bear King’s head. Thunder roared and lightning lashed about. This was the occurrence of an exceptional mutation of bloodlines, drastically increasing his strength.
The group was fiercely strengthening their const.i.tution.
Chu Feng made a rough estimation and found that he had enough medication on him with more to spare. He thought of his other old friends whom he hadn’t dared to approach lately for fear of implicating them.
Moreover, he had already gotten them to go into hiding.
For example, Xiong Kun, Hu Sheng, Clairvoyant Du Huaijin, the Clairaudient Ouyang Qing, Ye Qingrou, and the rest, along with Old Man Lu Tong. When the time came, he would also make preparations to help them strengthen their const.i.tution.
Old Man Lu Tong, in particular. because he had vigorously a.s.sisted him in the past. As a result, Chu Feng felt as though he definitely had to pave the path for the old fox’s evolution.
At the same time, Chu Feng also wondered what happened to those in the Corporations, namely Jiang Luoshen, the Vajra, Silver-winged Deity, and the rest, as well as that rotten director, Zhou Yitian.
He also wondered how those rivals of the past were doing nowadays, namely the Peac.o.c.k King, Nine-Lives Cat King, and many others.
He wanted to pay them a visit if he had the time.
Chu Feng saw that every region of the island was glowing and everyone was gus.h.i.+ng with vital aura. “Don’t rush, take it slow and restrain yourselves. I’ll scout the path for you and find a great fortune!”
He left but didn’t go far. Instead, he submerged into the depths of the sea to find the Dragoness. He wanted to enter the True Dragon Den. That was a place surging with true dragon qi, so he was still unsure if he would be able to enter it.
