CHAPTER 73: I"ll Spare Your Life!"Kaamu, to your left. The office is the first door you see." Touma"s voice could be heard through the earpiece.
Kaamu arrived in front of the door. Suddenly, he let out a string of curses.
"f.u.c.kin" s.h.i.t! It"s locked, man! And it needs a valid thumbprint to get access. I can"t bypa.s.s this."
"Show me."
Kaamu took a picture of the lock and sent it to Touma. Taking a quick look at the components, Touma scoffed.
It was just a simple thumbprint access lock. Nothing complicated.
"Take out the device I gave you and connect it to the blue and black wire under the panel."
Without any hesitation in his movement, he did exactly as he was told by Touma. Rows of numbers streaked across the screen endlessly. Finally, the numbers left the screen leaving a simple notice.
[Access Granted]
Kachak!
He turned the doork.n.o.b and cautiously entered the room. The sun"s rays peeked into the room through the window. There was just enough light for Kaamu to scan the room freely. It was a modest office room with a leather chair behind the table and bookshelves filled with books. The woody scent of old books a.s.saulted his nose, reminding him of the library at his old high school. He loathed this smell, it never reminded him of anything pleasant.
He approached the desk by the window and rummaged around for the ledger. The ledger had records of all the transactions carried out by the Mahoe Group. It was normal for the mob or mafia to have records of this in order to keep track of their clients. Even though it was now the digital era, it was too risky to keep a record of the information digitally since hackers could get their hands on it. As a result, information continued to be recorded the old-fashioned way.
Touma believed that the list of clients recorded inside the ledger would be able to answer the questions that had been troubling him. Plus, it would give him leverage to control Mahoe Group. It was a plan that could kill two birds with one stone.
Kaamu expanded his search range and soon he had looked everywhere, but he still didn"t find the ledger Touma wanted. He scoured the room once more, paying special attention to the desk, but he still couldn"t find it.
Kachak!
The sound from the door startled Kaamu. Within a split-second, he hid himself in the shadow of a bookshelf. He didn"t dare to make a sound, keeping his breathing to a minimum. The s.p.a.ce between the rack was small; it was just enough to accommodate him if he didn"t move.
"Kaamu! What happened?"
The room didn"t have any cameras, so it was difficult for Touma to know what was happening. He had to depend on Kaamu to tell him everything.
"That b.a.s.t.a.r.d Keanu is here..." he whispered. Trying to speak as softly as possible.
"The ship needs to be stopped! The product wasn"t completed yet! What does she plan to do with all of that?! Is she trying to kill all of j.a.pan?! f.u.c.k! It"ll raise a lot of red flags!" A big, muscular hand slammed the door shut as he walked to the table.
"No! Even if I want too, I can"t! Son of a b.i.t.c.h! Don"t you dare threaten me!"
"Tell her, if she wants to die, she can go die alone. I"m not f.u.c.king following her! f.u.c.k off!" He hung up and threw the phone on the table, kicking the chair. The chair collided with a bookshelf near Kaamu. A few books fell off but the muscular man ignored it.
He was pacing back and forth, muttering something but Kaamu couldn"t catch what he was saying. Plus his pacing made Kaamu"s heart beat wildly, he could feel his heart pounding, because of how close the man was to his hiding spot. He prayed to G.o.d to make him invisible right now, or at least so that the man wouldn"t find him. He wasn"t scared of the man but of the disappointment, he would see in Dillan"s eyes. He couldn"t bear the thought of it, let alone see it in reality.
"Kaamu, I"m on the way. Relax~~~" a melodious voice rang out; A glimmer of hope could be seen in his eyes. "You"re my saviour Loli!"
Kaamu peeked out to look for Keanu when he didn"t hear anything. He saw Keanu staring at the phone, his face contorted in anger He threw a punch at the table before he picked up the phone and clicked the dial b.u.t.ton.
Tut... Tut... Tut...
"The number you have dialled..." He cut the call and tried again.
Tut... Tut... Tut...
"The number you have dialled..." Frustrated, he threw the phone onto the table. Kaamu could feel the chilliness in the air. "He must"ve received some bad news."
Kaamu relaxed a bit when he saw Keanu get comfortable in his chair, ma.s.saging his head. But the peace was fleeting, he felt something creeping up his arm and froze. His arms p.r.i.c.kled with gooseb.u.mps and a shiver ran through his body. Trying his best not to scream, he looked down. Big mistake. He would"ve been better off not knowing what it was instead of seeing the brown creature crawling up his hand.
"Urghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!" He bit his lips as hard as he could, drawing blood, trying not to make a sound. A metallic taste filled his mouth but he ignored it. He shook his hand, trying to get the creature off. His plan failed.
Thud!
He accidentally knocked against the shelf.
The sound alarmed Keanu. He straightened his back and scanned the room, searching for the source of the sound. He thought for sure it came from the messed shelf, the one that had been hit by the chair earlier. He stood up and slowly walked towards the shelf.
"Who"s there? Show yourself!" carefully yet hesitantly, he approached, taking out the gun that had been hidden under the table.
"f.u.c.k! f.u.c.k! f.u.c.k! f.u.c.k! I"m so dead!" Kaamu"s back was drenched in sweat. The brown creature roaming freely under his shirt only served to intensify his fear, almost putting his brain into shock. Seeing the man approach him, gun in hand, his heart raced and he silently prayed to the G.o.ds for help.
"Come out now and I"ll spare your life!"
