The Sinners' Queen

Chapter 139

"All I want is to tell you that I won"t be in any way helpful to you because I am no s...o...b..z insider. I am a n.o.body."

"...I think you"re wasting your time talking to someone who will most likely stay this way for the rest of his life..."

Right after Chris Meyer said this, he didn"t know whether the system wanted to annoy him to death today, but it suddenly shouted within his brain then shoved a screen only visible to him to his face.

For some sort of reason, it highlighted the highest graded skill which he didn"t even know was higher than his most loved sports.
He almost couldn"t help but ask whether it was joking with him or not. Never once did he think that this Acting skill was his most proficient skill. Aside from some ridiculous and childishly scripted dramas from the past events which his cla.s.s or year level had acted in, there were no more opportunities for him to perform. How did it become this high then?

He sneered to it, not speaking anything anymore since it had already predicted what was on his mind.

Meanwhile, in front of him, the long-haired girl in a white dress stared at his serious face for quite a long while before pursing her lips and replying, "I"m still betting. Let me test your eyes again and if possible, your acting too."

"No." He immediately replied, his face crumpled.

"Listen to me. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for you. I know you came from a normal family and because of this, I don"t believe that you don"t want to show them that you can also be extraordinary despite your humble origins. Every man is born to dream and reach out for greatness."

"Don"t stereotype miss. There are men who only want to spend their lives counting the days before they die. There are also those who don"t want any of the greatness you"re speaking of." He matter-of-fact stated, only short of pointing a finger to himself.

"Maybe. But you are young. Are you also going to be like them? Don"t you want to do something which can make your parents and loved ones proud?"

"Even if I do, what makes you think the only choice is s...o...b..z?"

She stayed silent for a couple of seconds, seemingly thinking of what she should say next as a retort. Chris looked at her eyes then shook his head.

He added, "I don"t think this talk will go anywhere. You know what, Miss. I think the greatest mistake you did today is forcing someone into this boring discussion. No matter what you do from now on, the impression I"ll have on you is not so nice. You"re someone who ordered your person to catch me when I avoided you. What happened after that is you restricting my freedom, for a stupid reason, this nonsensical talk. I don"t know what makes it so hard for you to understand that I don"t want any involvement with you. Now, even if you manage to spew out all the most beautiful words and offers in the world, it won"t work on me because first of all, my impression of you is bad, second, I don"t have interest in the entertainment industry."

Chris stood up, a.s.suming their conversation over. With his decision relayed, there should be no more discussion to be made.

Seated across him, the lady who became silent due to his words once again pursed her lips, watching him rose from his seat. Probably aware that she wouldn"t get what she wanted for today, she didn"t continue pursuing the matter and only pulled up a business card from her purse which she extended to Chris.

The young man only stared at it, puzzlement not totally concealed from his eyes.

She sighed and said, "It"s my calling card, in case you need something from me. I know it will be very rude to prevent you from leaving, so I"ll just leave my contacts with you."

"What will I need that for?"

"Who knows." She smiled knowingly. "Anyway, I"m betting this will be not our last meeting."

"If there will be another, I"ll furiously pray for it to be just a chance encounter in the streets wherein the traffic light is red."

With a soft chuckle she replied, "Before you go, I just want to say to you, no matter if you"re unwilling to admit or not, maybe the s...o...b..z world just have what could easily help you solve some troublesome matters. After all, it"s one of the easiest ways to earn money. Especially if you can get a project which can be filmed in weeks but pays ten thousands if not hundred thousands of credits. Of course, things still depends on whether you have the talent, luck and the backing..."

Finding the woman weird again, he shook his head and walked off. He didn"t get the card which caused the woman to momentarily tremble from her seat.

Alessa pouted, then took a deep breath to ease up the heart which grew a bit colder due to the treatment her calling card received from the young man. Diaz approached her and concernedly looked at her. But since clarity was still in her head, she signaled him not to make any unnecessary moves anymore.

Anyway, it was really her fault. Instead of arranging another nicer meeting between them, she became so impatient and led him to this place without his consent. She could only scold herself for being stupid.

Oddly, she didn"t do the same for suddenly being fixated to someone she was not even sure if really talented and helpful. Her case was really a weird example of trusting a woman"s intuition which was unknown whether it was due to her young age.

"Now I know I have to be wiser. In the future, if I want to fight her for resources, there"ll be a need to frequently talk with shareholders, investors, and other high ranking people. If I can"t even intimidate someone like him, how will I fare when the time to fight a battle of words against those people comes?"

"Miss. Should I send one of your cards to his family"s mailbox? Or create an invitation letter instead and send it to his parents? I think all parents would love to have their kids try being a star. It should be hard for him to refuse if his parents like the prospect of seeing their child on the TV screen." The tall and beefy man in a military crew haircut suggested after getting to her side.

"No. Not now." She said after a brief silence. "It seems he doesn"t know yet. That"s the only explanation why he easily brushed off my offer to him."

"Then why didn"t you just tell him?" the man asked, perplexed. He didn"t know why his boss was attaching so much importance to a random guy like that.

Also, didn"t she also want to test him? With the information in their hands, it should be easy to convince him to try. After all, what that other party only needed to do was act, and his miss would judge if his level could delve him deeper into the industry with her, closer to the First Miss" circle.

"Enough. I can"t lower his impression of me, anymore." Alessa replied with finality in her voice.

Remembering her appointments and lessons later for today, Alessa wordlessly pulled up her wallet and called out a waiter. After settling the payment, she and her bodyguard went out of the place, heading toward the southern exit.

They had just walked out of the restaurant when her phone vibrated inside her clutch.

Wondering if it was a call or message from her future colleagues, she picked it up from within the clutch bag and unlocked it. One of her brows rose up when she saw that it was a message from an anonymous number, warning her to not take the southern exit if she still wants to live.

"Prank?" she thought, her expression becoming weird. "How did this person know my number?"

A bit discomposed, she informed Diaz about it. The bodyguard only knitted his brows for a while before phoning the other a.s.sistant, Aura, to check the place. When something suspicious was reportedly sighted, even though Alessa was still having some skepticism about it, she followed her bodyguard"s lead and immediately walked out of the mall through the opposite exit. All this while, she was telling herself, being a little more careful wouldn"t hurt.

...

Five hundred meters west of her location...

"... I think, with this, I"ve repaid the meal cost a hundred times..."

Chris threw his sim card down the drain and indifferently strutted towards the nearest waiting shed for buses. The matter earlier was already thrown in the back of his mind. In fact, he had already brainwashed himself that he didn"t meet the girl and did not have to leave the place after warning the police about a bomber lurking at the southern exit.

Today, he only went out to send a condolence letter. He successfully accomplished his goal. Nothing more happened.

However, within his brain, the system was actually heavily berating him for not personally acting out a hero-saved-the-beauty scene. It also scolded him for not leaving clues that it"s him who sent that message. Both to that woman, and the police.

Of course, it received nothing but the usual response...

Silence.
