The Star System

Chapter 1

In an unknown yet beautiful land, a young boy sat by a campfire warming his hands. He sat in a clearing surrounded by trees that towered magnificently towards the heavens. He was wearing a dark brown leather tunic, with black linen pants, and at his waist was a thin leather belt.

David had a secret, he came from a planet far away called earth. Not only had his soul transferred over but his body did as well. He knew nothing about this world so far, as he had only been here a few hours, except that it was rather cold.

But he had also gained something else to help him along his way, a system. It surprised him at first, but he soon accepted it.

David listened to the wind that ruffled the treetops and sat thinking to himself as the last shades of light disappeared behind the faraway mountain peaks. He was still coming to terms with the fact that he had transmigrated.

A noise to his right brought him to standing position. He turned to see what was making the noise, and felt the hair on the back of his neck stand, as a cold chill went down his spine.

Standing 20 feet away stood a small green-skinned humanoid. The upper half of its body was covered in a thin leathery hide, while its bottom was covered with dense fur. David recognized the monster as a goblin, as he had seen them in video games in his previous life on earth.

The goblins ferocious red eyes met Davids, with no fear of the human being in front of it. The goblin seemed to look down on David as if he was just an ant in its eyes. David felt angry at the arrogant beast, as it was smaller than him by at least a foot.

David took a second glance at the short knife in the goblin"s hand, and tensed. Although he was bigger than the goblin, he had no combat experience. Throughout his whole life on earth, he had never seen the same viciousness in anyone, and he knew the goblin genuinely wanted to kill him.

David hesitated as he had no weapons in his possession. Using the moment of hesitation, the goblin lunged towards David, aiming the short knife at his throat. David reacted, lifting his arms to block the incoming attack. David felt the short knife plunge cleanly into his left arm and the goblins efforts of trying to pull the knife from his arm.

After a few seconds of rapid pulling, the goblin finally pulled the knife from Davids" arm. It knocked David back a few steps from the sudden and unexpected impact, and he felt the sharp tang of pain from his arm.

The goblin backed off a few steps to regain its footing and left David a few seconds of peace. His mind whirled with the building panic, and he knew he would be dead if he didn"t find a way to escape or kill the goblin.

Once again, the goblin lunged, this time with more speed as it wanted to make the final strike. The knife once again pierced into the mangled flesh of his arm, and the goblin kicked at David"s legs in an attempt to make him lose his balance.

David bent forward slightly, making the goblin miss his legs. The goblin stumbled backward once again, and David used the brief window to attack the goblin. Throwing himself forward at the stunned goblin, David landed atop the goblin, both tumbling over towards the ground.

Because of the swift and firm impact on the goblin"s body, the knife fell from the goblin"s hand, and clattered a few feet away. David drove his fists into the goblins midsection as hard as he could, stunning the goblin. David stood as fast as he could, getting ready to stomp the goblin with his foot, but stopped.

A slow steady stream of blood ran from underneath the downed goblins head. David looked closer and noticed a rock penetrating the back of the goblins skull, that had killed it almost instantly. David breathed out a sigh of relief and stumbled back to the campfire.

His arm was throbbing with pain, and he was unable to move it. The adrenaline from the fight he just had was still pumping through him, and he felt it slowly start to ebb.

Using the light of the campfire to study the wound, he saw the steady drips of blood flowing from it, along with the severed tendons and blood vessels, which explained why he couldn"t move it.

Using the knife he had obtained from the goblin, David cut a strip of cloth from his tunic and wrapped the wound tightly to ensure no blood could get out, and he soon started to feel relaxed. He had used up a lot of strength from his fight, and he needed rest to recover it. And in order to survive in this new world, he needed strength before he could do anything. He laid back by the side of the campfire and drifted off into a fitful slumber.

David woke several hours later, with a great soreness inside his left arm. He felt the warming rays of sunlight covering him, and he felt rather comfortable considering his previous fight.

He noticed a notification from the system,

+10 Bronze Points

He grinned, he could buy a weapon from the system store now to help him overcome his weakness. He tried to stand, and could only do so after a few tries. His muscles felt weak from his fight with the goblin.

David could feel his stomach growling for food, and his mouth felt dry and swollen because of the lack of food and water. When he decided to try finding food and water, he heard the system"s computerized voice echo in his mind.
