Chapter 608: You Also Have To Be Good
Zheng Ren came out of the ICU and was completely relaxed. He remembered that today was the 11th, which was the date of his mission.
Zheng Ren did not know the specific and neither did Su Yun.
Zheng Ren did not know what it was about, how long it would take, or where he would be going.
He was very confused.
He quieted down and recalled the memory of celebrating Xie Yiren’s birthday in the middle of the night. Zheng Ren was reluctant to part with her.
He took out his phone and sent a message to Xie Yiren.
[Are you done?]
[I just lied down to sleep for a bit. What about you?]
Xie Yiren replied quickly.
[Everything’s done on my end. Are they asleep? Come out for a moment. I want to talk to you.]
[Hmm? Okay.]
[Just give me a moment. I’m at the ICU entrance. I’ll be back.]
Zheng Ren held his phone and walked quickly to the entrance of the emergency operating theater.
He did not go in. Instead, he sent a WeChat message to ask Xie Yiren to come out.
They had just carried out a major emergency treatment. A room full of nurses and doctors were sleeping. It was really inconvenient to simply head in there alone.
After waiting for less than a minute, the operating theater’s door opened. Xie Yiren was wearing a dark green isolation suit and poked her little head out.
Zheng Ren waved his hand. Xie Yiren smiled when she saw him.
“Why aren’t you sleeping yet?” Xie Yiren jumped out at him like a cute stuffed toy.
“I missed you,” Zheng Ren looked at Xie Yiren and said softly.
A blush crept up on Xie Yiren’s face. Even her neck looked flushed.
“I came to see you before I go to sleep.” Seeing that Xie Yiren was embarra.s.sed, Zheng Ren smiled and changed the topic.
“Well, you should rest early too.”
“Okay.”
“When did Department Chief Kong say you were going to the Imperial Capital? My parents will be back in a week. Can you go after they come back?” Xie Yiren asked as she looked at Zheng Ren.
“I’ll try my best.” Zheng Ren sighed in his heart. He was afraid that he would not be able to see his in-laws this time.
“Alright.” Xie Yiren heard a hint of uncertainty in Zheng Ren’s tone. She was not unhappy, but there was a bit of regret.
Zheng Ren opened his arms, wanting to hug Xie Yiren.
Little Yiren immediately jumped away. She pointed at the security camera and smiled.
“Okay, go back to sleep.” Zheng Ren smiled and reached out to touch Xie Yiren’s head.
“Okay, I’ll go to sleep obediently. You have to be good too,” Xie Yiren said.
Zheng Ren nodded and watched Xie Yiren go back. He felt lost.
When he returned to the emergency ward and saw Su Yun sitting in his office, Zheng Ren walked in and asked, “How’s the patient?”
“She’s fine. The rest of the department is busy. Blood transfusions and preparations for surgery are being done. They just require a vascular clamp so the surgery shouldn’t be a problem,” Su Yun said.
“That’s good.”
“Did you say goodbye to Little Yiren? You didn’t spout any nonsense to her, right?” Su Yun asked.
“Yes, I did,” Zheng Ren answered simply. Suddenly, he remembered something and said, “Let’s go. There’s no news. Maybe she’ll call the cops if we can’t be found?”
Su Yun raised his head in surprise. The black hair on his forehead fluttered in the wind. He stared at Zheng Ren as if he were looking at a fool.
“What?”
Su Yun was helpless against Zheng Ren’s dumb cuteness. He was not in the mood to argue with Zheng Ren and just sighed slightly.
“Someone will inform my family but they haven’t given me any details on how long we’ll be away or where we’ll be.”
“You guessed it?”
“Teacher Han went on a mission in the past but I had no way to contact him then and asked him what had happened. In the end, he told me everything.”
“Oh.” Zheng Ren thought that the mission this time would probably be finished quickly and not drag on for too long.
“Let’s rest for a while,” Zheng Ren said.
“There’s nowhere we can go. The professor is sleeping in the duty room. Didn’t you hear him snoring?”
It was only then that Zheng Ren noticed the snoring could still be heard through the duty room’s door.
He would sit there for a while then. It would be even noisier if he went in. Moreover, it was already past three to four in the morning so there was no need to go home.
The two of them sat quietly and dozed off.
…
The next day, their shift ended early. Zheng Ren and Su Yun did not appear.
Everyone thought that the two of them had gone to sleep somewhere after the emergency treatment last night.
Old Chief Physician Pan was not surprised. Nothing had changed. It was time for the shift change and ward round. Chief w.a.n.g and the others shouldered Zheng Ren’s mission and carried out the emergency treatment.
In the afternoon, Xie Yiren was called to Old Chief Physician Pan’s office.
When she came out, Little Yiren’s expression was a little strange. There was no sadness or joy, only a little numbness.
The days pa.s.sed day by day like flowing water.
Some were busy, some were relaxed. There were sunny days, as well as those plagued with wind and snow.
Xie Yiren worked in silence, never mentioning Zheng Ren.
Everyone got the news from the newly arrived chief resident of Imperial Capital Hospital that Zheng Ren and Su Yun had gone to the Imperial Capital to set up a brand new surgical research center.
Many people were envious, but there were also some who were jealous.
However, those who were jealous did not even have the chance to cause trouble behind their backs. Zheng Ren was like a rising star. He only left behind countless legends in Sea City General Hospital before he left.
Old Chief Physician Pan was happy every day. He was in charge of the emergency department and was extremely busy.
Since Zheng Ren was not around, the emergency department did not collapse.
Chief w.a.n.g from the Imperial Capital Hospital brought a few colleagues and supported the emergency department of Sea City General Hospital to the best of their abilities.
After all, they were a medical team from the Imperial Capital. There were no problems with the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery.
Even if they encountered some rare diseases, they would contact the Imperial Capital through private means and methods to solve them.
Old Chief Physician Pan also contacted Gao Shaojie from the Provincial Capital for the few patients with liver cancer that Zheng Ren left behind. They would go to Sea City General Hospital to perform surgeries on a regular basis.
No consultation fees were gathered from these surgeries.
Old Chief Physician Pan wanted to give something to Gao Shaojie but the other sternly rejected any offers.
At the First Affiliated Hospital of Provincial Capital Medical University, the progress of the TIPS surgery was difficult. Gao Shaojie encountered a few patients who had bled during the second-stage surgery. After the interventional surgery to stop the bleeding, the patients all recovered safely.
This had something to do with Gao Shaojie’s own skill level but there was nothing he could do about it.
Even if Professor Rudolf Wagner did it, there would still be the same risk. Only Zheng Ren could avoid this risk as much as possible.
However, compared to the risk of bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy was more serious, so Gao Shaojie still insisted on Zheng Ren’s method. He put down two stents and took out the recyclable stents at a later time.
Professor Rudolf Wagner had also woken up earlier that day but did not see Zheng Ren. When he was told that Zheng Ren had left, he grumbled for a long time.
However, he had no choice. The professor had to book the next flight out to fly to Sorcery Capital so that he could head back to Heidelberg.
The day Zheng Ren left had changed things a little, but other than that, there was not much of an impression on everyone else.
In the blink of an eye, a week had pa.s.sed.
