Chapter 745: The Great Chinese Were Invincible
After changing his clothes, he was still wearing the same camouflage suit that was covered in dust and mud.
This camouflage suit had accompanied Zheng Ren on many walks.
There were some cuts on it. Zheng Ren could still remember which one was cut while carrying the wounded and which one was torn while walking in the jungle.
After arriving at Chengdu Provincial Hospital, Zheng Ren and Su Yun separated a locker but they had not seen this suit for two or three days.
However, when they put on the camouflage uniform again, a different kind of feeling lingered in their hearts.
“Boss, I really didn’t realize before that you looked very heroic in the camouflage uniform.” Su Yun looked at Zheng Ren and gave a rare compliment.
Zheng Ren did not say anything. Under normal circ.u.mstances when Su Yun said something like this, there would not be a good ending.
“Just a little less than me. That’s not bad,” Su Yun said.
As expected…
Without a phone, Zheng Ren could not contact Xie Yiren and could not be bothered with Su Yun. He went out early and waited at the door of the changing room.
Xie Yiren did not waste too much time. She washed up and changed her clothes before walking out.
Unlike Zheng Ren and Su Yun who were wearing tattered camouflage clothes, Xie Yiren was wearing clean jeans. Her figure was accentuated by the tight jeans. Her ponytail swayed behind her, exuding a youthful aura.
“Chief Chen said he’d wait for us downstairs,” Xie Yiren said as she waved her phone around.
“Oh, okay.” Zheng Ren smiled and held Little Yiren’s hand naturally.
Xie Yiren did not refuse. Her fingers were interlocked with his. Her hand tightened slightly, afraid that this guy would disappear again.
“I haven’t been down since I came here. I don’t know what it’s like outside.” Su Yun looked down from upstairs. There were people shuttling in and out of the rows of tents.
“I guess it’s to treat some minor injuries or a place for volunteers to rest.” Zheng Ren also took a look.
“I don’t know where Zhao Yunlong is,” Su Yun muttered to himself. “I’m going to have a drink with him when I go back. I’ve taken too much of his c.r.a.p! He’s been pointing at me all the way into the mountains. I’ve tolerated him for long enough!”
“Yiren, let me use your phone. I’ll ask Manager Feng,” Zheng Ren suddenly said as he walked.
Xie Yiren handed his phone over. Zheng Ren didn’t even think before he entered Feng Xuhui’s phone number.
The phone rang and the call was answered almost instantly.
“h.e.l.lo, Miss Bu.” Feng Xuhui’s voice was a little weak, but he sounded very energetic.
“It’s me, Manager Feng,” Zheng Ren said in a low voice.
The phone went silent. Feng Xuhui was not excited, but he could faintly hear the sound of sobbing.
“Manager Feng, how’s your injury?” Zheng Ren asked.
“It’s pretty good. I’m done suturing. The doctor said that I need to do some functional training in a few days,” Feng Xuhui suppressed his emotions and answered in the calmest voice he could muster.
“Thank you for your hard work,” Zheng Ren said seriously after he paused for a few seconds.
The other side fell silent again.
“I’m going back to the Imperial Capital. Come find me after you recover. There’s no rush,” Zheng Ren said.
“Okay,” Feng Xuhui answered.
Zheng Ren didn’t know what to say to warm his heart. These things… He should wait until he got back.
“See you in the Imperial Capital then.” Zheng Ren hung up the phone and returned it to Xie Yiren.
“What happened to Manager Feng?” Xie Yiren asked.
“I was performing surgery in Pengxi Village and lacked medical supplies for the intervention. He happened to be there so he sent a batch of goods. On the way, a steel bar penetrated his thigh and he was quite badly injured,” Zheng Ren explained briefly. The details were brief but for Zheng Ren and Su Yun, who had experienced the situation at that time, they felt a sense of sadness.
It was really great luck to be able to return well on this journey.
Zheng Ren suddenly thought that his Luck +12 attribute should have played a part in it.
Xie Yiren felt that there was more than meets the eye from Zheng Ren’s words. That was not even the frontline. One could imagine the danger Zheng Ren faced at that time.
Unknowingly, the small hand holding Zheng Ren tightened, full of sweat.
The three of them went downstairs. It was cloudy today, but the weak sunlight through the clouds still made Zheng Ren’s eyes narrow.
It was as if a lifetime had pa.s.sed.
“Doctor Zheng, Doctor Su, over here!” Chief Chen called out.
On the other side, the first batch of doctors, nurses, and some volunteers who were about to evacuate had already gathered together.
Some of them had spoken to each other, becoming familiar faces with each other. They had left their contact details with each other.
From then on, they would be separated from each other. Although they might not meet each other in the future, it was still good to leave a memory.
The hospital’s courtyard was still as busy as ever. There was a fleet of vehicles transporting supplies and the injured.
Among the rows of tents, the medical staff dressed in white were busy.
In the distance, there were many red banners hanging on the courtyard wall. They fluttered gently in the breeze.
Zheng Ren walked over and waited for a few more people to come down. Under the arrangement of Chief Chen and the people from the hospital’s medical administration division, they began to take photos together.
Chief Chen insisted on letting Zheng Ren sit in the middle, but he rejected without hesitation.
In the end, Chief Chen sat in the middle with Zheng Ren sitting beside him. He sat upright with his hands on his knees and looked straight ahead.
Behind him on the wall of the courtyard, there were red and white words. The slogan of the great Chinese people being invincible was written in the background.
Amongst the vast sea of people like a surging torrent, the slogan was so eye-catching.
The fluttering breeze and the sound of the military flag flapping about in the distance emphasized it.
The great Chinese were invincible!
After leaving his contact information with Chief Chen and shaking hands to say goodbye, Zheng Ren and the others boarded the bus that was arranged and rushed to the airport.
At the airport, there was a flight crew to receive them, which meant that they were from a certain hospital. There would be a ground crew to look for their ‘lost’ companions.
Zhao Yunlong and the others had just arrived. Just like Zheng Ren, their faces were filled with exhaustion.
At this time, no one had the energy to ask what they had experienced during the days they were apart. Hugging each other and rejoicing that they could still meet, many people fell asleep directly in the airport waiting hall.
This was a travel-worn team. They came and went in a hurry, shedding their blood and tears on this piece of land.
Now, they had completed their mission and were about to leave.
The ground crew quickly informed Zhao Yunlong that the 6pm flight was on time. They also delivered warm food and the personal belongings that the team had left at the airport during the mission.
However, many people could not be woken up even if they were called. They fell asleep in the narrow chairs and became just like a puddle of mud.
Zhao Yunlong quietly tidied up his personal belongings and distributed them one by one.
Xie Yiren noticed that a few of his personal belongings had been pushed to the bottom by Zhao Yunlong. After everyone had distributed them, he pretended that he had inadvertently stuffed the few bags into a black suitcase.
They were probably the personal belongings of the sacrificed personnel, Xie Yiren guessed.
She was a little sad. She could only grab Zheng Ren’s hand and feel his warmth.
Soon, the ground crew informed the ferry that it had arrived. Zheng Ren, Xie Yiren, and Su Yun walked at the end. He had some regrets in his heart. The operation within Chengdu Provincial Hospital had not been finished yet.
Sitting on the ferry to the plane as it began to board, Zheng Ren’s eyes narrowed as it looked toward the sky.
The sky was overcast and the clouds were not as thick as before. He could almost see the sun s.h.i.+ning behind the clouds.
Zheng Ren raised his hand, clenched his fist, and threw it into the air, fist-b.u.mping the sky.
The great Chinese were invincible!
