The Tiger Within

Chapter 170

"Maybe if your fur wasn"t so freaking rough." He replied rubbing his wrist lightly,

"Why you little…." Kyera growled as she arched back reading to leap at her friend. However, the wolf knew better, dropping from the tree he took off into the forest behind. She had to fight the urge to go after him.

Clovis entered the room, his sent meeting Kyera"s nose she turned back to look at him. He walked to her side looking out the window that she seemed to be looking out. She sighed stepping back tilting her head, having forgotten she had asked Raina to call him. Clovis looked down at her, but something lower than that caught his eye. Lowering to his knee, he reached out to run his fingers over the floorboards just below the window. The metalic smell seemed to change as Kyera looked down as well.

At the base of the window a sc.r.a.p of cloth lay against the wall. A few blood stains splattered across the torn bit. Kyera frowned as she leaned down sniffing more. The core sent, not the b.l.o.o.d.y metallics but the deeper smell… the essence was familiar to her. A pang of pain twinged her heart, though she had no idea why.

"Good Girl, Moon. We will have to keep a eye out." Clovis whispered, his eyes darkening as he picked up the sc.r.a.p. His hand pet over her head and she looked up at him. A soft sound of concern seemed to rumble from her chest.

"Come. It is time for sleep, or will you prowl tonight?" He continued to ask as though he expected a answer. She debated answering, but chose not to. She wasn"t quite sure her basic excuses would work well enough for this prince. The secret couldn"t be chanced. If found, there was a good chance her people would be in danger…. And she couldn"t chance that.

The concept of sleeping here, where she could keep an eye on both Prince and Princess was tempting. Relaxing vibes curled and danced across this land making her smile softly. If she stayed, this home offered a restful slumber, untainted by danger. However, the warmth of the stone by her ear caused her to reconsider. This was not the time to consider safety and comfort but the life of her sister.

Kyera chuffed rea.s.suringly, before she jumped out the window, landing gracefully on the ground. Turning back to glance at him, he smiled at her and nodded his head. With that moment she knew, she was free to go.

Running fast as the night could carry her, she left and dashed across the forest floor. There was no rush she knew that much. The Stone could hold Mally safe until she could tend to her. Yet, something made her feel the need to rush back home. Leaping up through the branches, and in through the open door Kyera landed in the main room, where several people waited for her.

Lazren sat at the table, with Tang at his side. Both of them looked worriedly at her, as they sent another down the back way. Members of the Rebellion were being treated for their wounds. Without a word Kyera turned and got straight to work. She allowed her form to change, pulling on a thin tunic over her nakedness before helping with the wounded.

"Whose worse off?" She asked and a rabbit pointed to his friend. Without much prompting she went to work, healing each of them. Several hours were spent, mending wounds from a heedless war. Kyera learned 5 had died and the number of wounded was unsure. Once the house was empty of those needing her care, Kyera wiped the sweat from her brow with a bloodied hand. Her eyes cast to the tree line, where the moon was starting to set.
