The Tiger Within

Chapter 227

Kyera rose slowly, her body now stiff from the nearly hour long ride. The already abused muscles protesting as she attempted to appear elegant as she stepped down off the coach. The Prince offered her his arm to grip so she could step down more easily. Her feet finding purchase on the solid ground. The open air around her feeling like freedom for her soul, though she held tight reins over her form.

"Call for Doctor Tai Ken." Clovis ordered as he felt Kyera waver just a bit. She offered him a smile and nodded.

"You need to get looked over, and Princess Raina needs to rest. I will bid you good eve." Kyera stated through controlled breath. Her body wanted to weeze and take shallow breaths to ease the pain, but she would not allow it. Clovis frowned and folded his arms in a more regal and haunty manner, commanding.

"Where do you think you are going? Is the Palace of the Dancing winds somewhere you can come and go freely? I do not believe I dismissed you." Clovis" voice was cold and a touch resentful. Kyera looked back at him bewildered and confused by this sudden change. His eyes were cold and there was no room for anything but apology in his tone.

She turned back and tried to bow apologetically but ended up wincing at the sudden jolt of pain on her left side. It nearly took her off her feet. The irony taste of blood filling her mouth. "My applogies sir…" she began to speak but a pair of hands waved her up.

"Stand for the love of the G.o.ds woman! YOU. ARE. INJURED. stand up!" he demanded frustrated. The last thing he had expected was her to bow. Most people, yes would bow and tremble when he used this tone, but somehow he had not seen that coming from her. "You three maids, please get the Princess washed and changed. You two guards help me get this foolish woman inside." he ordered knowing he could not carry her himself. If he hadn"t been hit, possibly but if he dropped her now, it could be bad for both of them.

The servants both went about their a.s.signed tasks. Though a bit disappointed, Raina obediently went to clean up. She knew it was serious when Daddy used that voice. Clovis was relieved to see her behaving like she always had. He truly had a good daughter.

The guardsmen however had a slightly less obedient woman, in that she would not allow them to carry her. While they fussed about trying to ask her, another guard walked up, scooped her up and carried her into the palace. Clovis watched slightly shocked half expecting to to hear him howling in pain. Yet that didn"t happen. Instead Kyera glared at the man who grinned at her and set her on the pillowed seat.

"There you are, My Lady. Now don"t move too much, might agitate that wound of yours." he spoke lightly as if concerned but there was a teasing note to Lazren"s voice. Clovis chuckled, well aware that if anyone could subdue her perhaps his teacher could.

"I swear, Guard Lazren, you have no shame picking up a lady like this." Kyera protested sounding a bit indignant. Her rather annoyed tone was obviously a direct result of feeling like a damsel in distress. Kyera had justifiable pride as a warrior and being carried like a child did nothing for it.

"If you were just any lady perhaps I would feel guilty. However, it is a comrade"s duty to take care of their own." Lazren replied as he stood and gave her s.p.a.ce. Kyera seemed oddly soothed by his gentle words.

Clovis and a older gentleman entered the room. Kyera had met him a few times before, having tea with the Poison Master her first few weeks here. He was a shorter man, stooped slightly from bending over a medical bench. His black and white robe made colorful by all the bags and pouches that were strapped, swung, sewn and tied all over his attire. Kind blue eyes and a long white peppery beard completed his look.
