Kyera glowed under the veil, watching him through the lace. Each step felt her heart quicken. No one else mattered. Nothing else else existed but the future infront of her and all it represented. The smile on her face hurt her cheeks with its intensity. As she glided up the long garden path to where Clovis stood beneath the Phoenix tree she couldn"t help but take in the firey way the tree caught the light. Clovis standing out against those warm colors. She couldn"t have asked for a better site. As she moved closer, she couldn"t help but blush. A soft wind blew and the hair on Kyera"s neck stood up. She froze for a moment. No, she was mistaken. It couldn"t be… her mind was playing with her. She chastised herself and kept moving forward nearly to him now.
What she couldn"t see, however, was the sudden look of concern on Talis" face. He used his free hand to low key sign to the other shifters to keep watch. There were many of them here today and most felt the same unease she did.
Clovis reached for Kyera"s gloved hand. The softness of the lace a poor subst.i.tute for her skin. She moved closer, into position as he guided her. He couldn"t help but smile feeling surprisingly pleased. He never dreamed his wedding would truely be so joyous. Completely oblivious, he reveled in the moment.
The ceremony began, Kyera followed the motions as she had been told but her mind was elsewhere. The scents on the wind was worrying. This was the royal garden. She knew the scent of every animal here, and those of the wilds and her clan. This was not right… she tried to fight back those feelings.
Clovis reached down to guide the purple lace from her face as her hand shot out, catching the arrow that suddenly appeared. Her reaction time better this time, her hand hurt as she managed to close her fingers around that shaft.
"Forest Guard raise your blades!" Kyera cried her orders as she reached down and pulled the blade hidden by her dress. The lace and leather parted just enough on her right side for her to draw the blade from its lace sheath. She would defend what was hers. Thank the shadows they had added the blade to her dress.
Talis and the others pulled their concealed weapons to defend the more useless guests and the Royals. A group of intruders charged into sight attacking and destroying the decorations laughing, and attacking the guests mercilessly. It was obvious who they were. At least, obvious
to those who had already suffered their attack once before. There were fewer now and the guard attacked with the forest knights decimating them with their mutual princess at the head.
The Emperors gaurd managed to extract the Emperor and Empress, kyera a.s.sumed the children as well. Kyera"s eyes narrowed as she clashed swords with a intruder then pair began to fight hard. Slashes and parties that made her arms hurt with the force of the strikes. He never had a chance, as he fell to the ground a blade wound across his gut. She instantly dove into the sea of fighting using the shadows to defend the innocents. A little girls cry caught her ear like a cub in distress.
"Raina!" she heard Clovis scream from the battle near by. Kyera saw the tiger approaching the princess who was trapped against the forest edge. Kyera ran toward them her mind blocking out what she knew she saw. She couldn"t think of that now, it didn"t matter. Her cub was in trouble.
Kyera ran in human form "Raina, Raina Baby use the earing!" Kyera screamed as loud as she could. The child touched her ear, there was a flash of light and she was gone. Kyera opened her arms and caught her as Raina appeared in front of her. Her little arms wrapped around Kyera"s neck hot tears falling against her skin.
"I told you it would keep you safe." Kyera whispered hugging her before pulling her away and putting her on a tree brance. "Climb. I will deal with this." Kyera demanded turning to face the tiger who looked her over. Those familiar eyes brought tears to hers as shock raced through her. The murderous intent in those eyes that once held so much love. Her heart stopped. "Verone?"
