Clovis felt his heart beating hard, much like a rabbit caught in a snare, fighting wildly against it. His mind briefly wondered if this was what Kyera had felt, when that net had captured her so many months ago. What would happen to her now? He knew she would take care of Raina but… He didn"t want to leave them. This thought full in his mind as he gripped a rock and prepared to fight the panther like creature he knew was waiting for him to move. He only had his dagger and the surroundings to use and neither seemed to be much in his favor. Getting close enough to strike with the dagger, and be fatal was going to be quite the task in and of itself. It would mean getting close enough for the beast to strike in melee range.Indeed the displacer beast was just out of site, watching him from within a deep grey bush, offering her perfect camouflage as she revealed in the pain and fear that drifted off of her prey. His soul would be even more tasty after marinating in his torment. She couldn"t help it as her tongue darted out to lap at her lips. Slowly, she began to move out of the bush, his determination marred only by the fear as she approached him.
The beast was unhurried as Clovis forced himself to his feet, seeing how huge the creature was he knew his chances were slim. Even Kyera would have had issues against the great beast, with its four toothy tentacles spread out like a mane around her head.
"Prepared to die, fleshling?" She asked her voice sounding like nothing but purrs and growls mixed with the sounds of the wind in the night. He had no idea what she was saying but decided to meet her eyes instead. There was a challenge there, a fighting spirit. "Oh… I see something to live for…" She purred in the same language seeming curious. "Too bad I have no intention of letting you live for it, whatever it may be. FInal goodbyes, Fleshling." She laughed, a cold pa.s.sionless sound as her toothed freinds swung forward, cageing him between her and the cliff face.
Clovis hurled the rock at the creature"s face angrily using his dagger to try and slice off the first tendril closest him. Blood spurted across the ground as she screeched in pain, a black head falling to the ground with a sickening snap. The creatures black eyes turned red as blood thirst filled her heart. The displacer beast swung a paw at Clovis, knocking him back on the ground with a painful growl, pinning him on his back. In desperation, Clovis drove the blade into the creatures paw ripping it across the flesh, heat and pain spreading from the place her paw sat.
Then, just as the creature went to sink its long teeth into his neck, it was ripped off of him. The she beast screamed as two large claws dug into her shoulder blades dragging her back.. A large dark orange tiger growling behind her. Bright blue eyes filled with anger and a distinct lack of mercy fixed on her. It drug its claws down from her shoulders to the base of her back in a long, rough, jagged stroke, claws ripping through like nails through b.u.t.ter, pouring blood onto the earth. There was a moment of reprieve as Clovis took the blade and struck while he could. The blade ripping across the displacer beast"s throat. Slowly, she fell to the floor, her eyes wide in shock as blood poured from her throat. The creature"s eyes darkened and dimmed as with a final shudder her spirit left her, taking flight into the night air.
The tiger however, turned his blue eyes on Clovis who felt a chill run down his spine. The wound in his chest burned and warned that he would not have the chance to run too far. Confusion in the tiger"s eyes as it looked him over, its head slowly tilting to the side as he sniffed the air curiously.
"You aren"t my sister."
